2 Chronicles 14
Darby Bible
1And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And AsaH609 his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years. 2And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his 1God; 3and he took away the altars of the strange [godsH430] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs; 4and commanded JudahH3063 to seek Jehovah the 2God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment. 5And he removed out of all the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quietH8252 before him. 6And he builtH1129 fortified citiesH5892 in JudahH3063, for the landH776 had restH5117, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had givenH5117 him restH5117. 7And he said to JudahH3063, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our 3God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered. 8And Asa had an armyH2428 that bore targets and spears: out of Judah threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, twoH3967 hundredH3967 and eighty thousandH505: all these, mighty men of valour. 9And Zerah the Ethiopian cameH3318 out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he cameH3318 to MareshahH4762. 10And AsaH609 wentH935 out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. 11And AsaH609 cried unto Jehovah his 4God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our 5God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our 6God; let not man prevail against thee. 12And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before AsaH609 and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. 13And Asa and the people that wereH1961 with him pursued them to GerarH1642; and the Ethiopians wereH1961 overthrown, that none of them wasH1961 left alive; for they wereH1961 crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very muchH7227 spoilH962. 14And they smote all the cities round about Gerar, for the terror of Jehovah came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities, for there was very much spoil in them. 15They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
