2 Chronicles 28

Darby Bible

1AhazH271 was twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 sixteen yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And he did not what was rightH3477 in the sight of Jehovah, like DavidH1732 his fatherH1, 2but walked in the waysH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, and even madeH6213 molten imagesH4541 for the BaalsH1168; 3and he burned incenseH6999 in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, and burned his sonsH1121 in the fireH784, according to the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 that Jehovah had dispossessedH3423 from before the children of IsraelH3478. 4And he sacrificedH2076 and burned incenseH6999 on the highH1116 placesH1116, and on the hillsH1389, and under every green treeH6086. 5Therefore Jehovah his 1GodH430 gaveH5414 him into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a greatH1419 multitude of them captivesH7633, and broughtH935 them to DamascusH1834. And he was alsoH1571 givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, who smote him with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. 6And PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425 slewH2026 in JudahH3063 a hundredH3967 and twentyH6242 thousandH505 in oneH259 dayH3117, all valiant men, because they had forsaken Jehovah the 2GodH430 of their fathersH1. 7And Zichri, a mightyH1368 manH1368 of EphraimH669, slewH2026 MaaseiahH4641 the king's sonH1121, and AzrikamH5840 the governor of the houseH1004, and ElkanahH511 the secondH4932 to the kingH4428. 8And the children of IsraelH3478 carried away captiveH7617 of their brethren twoH3967 hundredH3967 thousandH505, womenH802, sonsH1121, and daughtersH1323, and tookH7617 away alsoH1571 muchH7227 spoilH7998 from them, and broughtH935 the spoilH7998 to SamariaH8111. 9But a prophetH5030 of Jehovah was there, whose nameH8034 was OdedH5752; and he wentH3318 out before the hostH6635 that cameH935 to SamariaH8111, and saidH559 unto them, Behold, because Jehovah the 3GodH430 of your fathersH1 was wroth with JudahH3063, he gaveH5414 them into your handH3027, and ye have slainH2026 them in a rageH2534 that reaches up to heavenH8064. 10And nowH6258 ye think to subjugate the children of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 as your bondmen and bondwomen. Are there not with you, even with you, trespasses against Jehovah your 4GodH430? 11And nowH6258 hearH8085 me, and send backH7725 the captivesH7633 again, whom ye have takenH7617 captiveH7617 of your brethren; for the fierce wrath of Jehovah is upon you. 12And certain of the headsH7218 of the children of EphraimH669, AzariahH5838 the sonH1121 of JohananH3076, Berechiah the sonH1121 of MeshillemothH4919, and Hezekiah the sonH1121 of ShallumH7967, and AmasaH6021 the sonH1121 of Hadlai, stoodH6965 up against them that cameH935 from the warH6635, 13and saidH559 to them, Ye shall not bringH935 in the captivesH7633 hither; because, for our guiltH819 before Jehovah, ye think to increaseH3254 our sinsH2403 and our trespasses: for our trespass is greatH7227, and fierce wrath is upon IsraelH3478. 14Then the armedH2502 men leftH5800 the captivesH7633 and the spoil before the princesH8269 and all the congregation. 15And the menH376 that have been expressed by nameH8034 roseH6965 up, and tookH2388 the captivesH7633, and with the spoilH7998 clothedH3847 all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gaveH8248 them to eatH398 and to drinkH8248, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them on asses, and broughtH935 them to JerichoH3405 the cityH5892 of palm-trees, to their brethren. And they returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111. 16At that timeH6256 kingH4428 AhazH271 sentH7971 to the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 to helpH5826 him. 17And againH5750 the EdomitesH130 cameH935 and smote JudahH3063, and carried away captivesH7628. 18And the PhilistinesH6430 invaded the citiesH5892 of the lowland, and of the southH5045 of JudahH3063, and tookH3920 Beth-shemeshH1053, and Ajalon, and GederothH1450, and Socho and its dependent villages, and TimnahH8553 and its dependent villages, and Guimzo and its dependent villages; and they dweltH3427 there. 19For Jehovah humbledH3665 JudahH3063 because of AhazH271 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, for he had made JudahH3063 lawless, and transgressed much against Jehovah. 20And Tilgath-Pilneser kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935 to him, and troubled him, and did not support him. 21For AhazH271 stripped the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 and of the princesH8269, and gaveH5414 to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804; but he was of no helpH5833 to him. 22And in the timeH6256 of his trouble he transgressed yet more against Jehovah, this kingH4428 AhazH271. 23And he sacrificedH2076 to the 5godsH430 of DamascusH1834, which had smitten him; and he saidH559, Since the 6godsH430 of the kingsH4428 of Syria helpH5826 them, I will sacrificeH2076 to them, that they may helpH5826 me. But they wereH1961 the ruin of him, and of all IsraelH3478. 24And AhazH271 gatheredH622 the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of 7GodH430, and cutH7112 in pieces the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of 8GodH430, and closed the doorsH1817 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and he madeH6213 for himself altarsH4196 in every cornerH6438 of JerusalemH3389. 25And in every several cityH5892 of JudahH3063 he madeH6213 highH1116 placesH1116 to burn incenseH6999 to otherH312 9godsH430, and provokedH3707 to angerH3707 Jehovah the 10GodH430 of his fathersH1. 26And the restH3499 of his acts, and all his waysH1870, firstH7223 and lastH314, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478. 27And AhazH271 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892, in JerusalemH3389; but they broughtH935 him not into the sepulchres of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478. And HezekiahH2396 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
