2 Chronicles 32

Revised Version 1895

1AfterH310 theseH428 things, and this faithfulnessH571, SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935, and enteredH935 intoH413 JudahH3063, and encampedH2583 againstH5921 the fenced citiesH5892, and thoughtH559 to win them for himselfH413. 2And when HezekiahH2396 sawH7200 that SennacheribH5576 was comeH935, and that he was purposed to fightH4421 againstH5921 JerusalemH3389, 3he tookH853 counselH3289 with his princesH8269 and his mightyH1368 menH1368 to stopH5640 the watersH4325 of the fountainsH5869 whichH834 were without the cityH5892; and they helpedH5826 him. 4SoH935 there was gatheredH6908 muchH7227 peopleH5971 togetherH6908, and they stoppedH5640 allH3605 the fountainsH4599, and the brookH5158 that flowedH7857 throughH8432 the midstH8432 of the landH776, sayingH559, WhyH4100 should the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 comeH935 and findH4672 muchH7227 waterH4325? 5And he tookH2388 courageH2388, and builtH1129 upH5927 allH3605 the wallH2346 that was brokenH6555 downH6555, and raisedH5927 it upH5927 to the towersH4026, and the otherH312 wallH2346 without, and strengthenedH2388 MilloH4407 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, and madeH6213 weaponsH7973 and shieldsH4043 in abundanceH7230. 6And he setH5414 captainsH8269 of warH4421 over the peopleH5971, and gatheredH6908 them togetherH6908 to him in the broad placeH5414 at the gateH8179 of the cityH5892, and spake comfortably to them, sayingH559, 7Be strongH2388 and of a good courageH2388, be notH408 afraidH3372 norH408 dismayedH2865 for the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, norH408 for allH3605 the multitudeH1995 that is with him: for there is a greaterH7227 with usH3588 thanH1995 with him: 8with him is an armH2220 of fleshH1320; but with usH5921 is the LORDH3068 our GodH430 to helpH5826 usH5921, and to fightH3898 our battlesH4421. And the peopleH5971 restedH5564 themselvesH5921 uponH5921 the wordsH1697 of HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063. 9AfterH310 this didH834 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sendH7971 his servantsH5650 to JerusalemH3389, (nowH2088 he was beforeH5921 LachishH3923, and allH3605 his power with him,) unto HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and unto allH3605 JudahH3063 that were at JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, 10ThusH3541 saith SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, Whereon doH4100 ye trustH982, that ye abideH3427 the siegeH4692 in JerusalemH3389? 11Doth notH3808 HezekiahH2396 persuade youH5414, to giveH5414 youH5414 over to dieH4191 by famineH7458 and by thirstH6772, sayingH559, The LORDH3068 our GodH430 shall deliverH5337 usH5414 outH853 of the handH3709 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804? 12Hath notH3808 the sameH1931 HezekiahH2396 takenH5493 awayH5493 his highH1116 placesH1116 and his altarsH4196, and commandedH559 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, Ye shall worshipH7812 beforeH6440 one altarH4196, and uponH5921 it shall ye burnH6999 incenseH6999? 13KnowH3045 ye notH3808 whatH4100 I and my fathersH1 have doneH6213 unto allH3605 the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776? Were the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the landsH776 anyH3605 ways ableH3201 to deliverH5337 their landH776 outH3045 of mine handH3027? 14Who was there among allH3605 the godsH430 of thoseH428 nationsH1471 whichH834 my fathersH1 utterly destroyed, that couldH3201 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 outH3605 of mine handH3027, that your GodH430 should be ableH3201 to deliverH5337 youH834 outH3605 of mine handH3027? 15NowH6258 therefore letH408 notH3808 HezekiahH2396 deceiveH5377 youH3588, norH3808 persuade youH3588 on this manner, neitherH3808 believeH539 ye him: for noH3808 godH430 of anyH3605 nationH1471 or kingdomH4467 was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 outH3605 of mine handH3027, and outH3605 of the handH3027 of my fathersH1: howH637 muchH637 lessH637 shall your GodH430 deliverH5337 youH3588 outH3605 of mine handH3027? 16And his servantsH5650 spake yet moreH5750 againstH5921 the LORDH3068 GodH430, and againstH5921 his servantH5650 HezekiahH2396. 17He wroteH3789 also lettersH5612, to rail on the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and to speakH559 againstH5921 him, sayingH559, As the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the landsH776 whichH834 have notH3808 deliveredH5337 their peopleH5971 outH5921 of mine handH3027, soH3651 shall notH3808 the GodH430 of HezekiahH2396 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 outH5921 of mine handH3027. 18And they criedH7121 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963 in the Jews’ languageH3066 unto the peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 that were on the wallH2346, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might takeH3920 the cityH5892. 19And they spake of the GodH430 of JerusalemH3389, as of the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776, which are the workH4639 of men’sH120 handsH3027. 20And HezekiahH2396 the kingH4428, and IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of AmozH531, prayedH6419 becauseH5921 of this, and criedH2199 to heavenH8064. 21And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 an angelH4397, whichH8033 cutH3582 offH3582 allH3605 the mightyH1368 menH1368 of valour, and the leadersH8269 and captainsH8269, in the campH4264 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. SoH7971 he returnedH7725 with shameH1322 of faceH6440 to his ownH6440 landH776. And when he was comeH935 intoH935 the houseH1004 of his godH430, they that cameH935 forthH7971 of his ownH6440 bowelsH4578 slew him there with the swordH2719. 22Thus the LORDH3068 savedH3467 HezekiahH2396 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 from the handH3027 of SennacheribH5576 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and from the handH3027 of allH3605 otherH3605, and guidedH5095 them on everyH3605 sideH5439. 23And manyH7227 broughtH935 giftsH4503 unto the LORDH3068 to JerusalemH3389, and preciousH4030 things to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063: soH3651 that he was exaltedH5375 in the sightH5869 of allH3605 nationsH1471 from thenceforth. 24In thoseH1992 daysH3117 HezekiahH2396 was sickH2470 evenH5704 unto deathH4191: and he prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068; and he spake unto him, and gaveH5414 him a signH4159. 25But HezekiahH2396 rendered notH3808 againH7725 accordingH5921 to the benefitH1576 doneH1961 unto him; for his heartH3820 was lifted upH5921: therefore there was wrathH7110 uponH5921 him, and uponH5921 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 26Notwithstanding HezekiahH2396 humbledH3665 himselfH1931 for the prideH1363 of his heartH3820, bothH5921 he and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, soH3808 that the wrathH7110 of the LORDH3068 cameH935 notH3808 uponH5921 them in the daysH3117 of HezekiahH2396. 27And HezekiahH2396 had exceedingH3966 muchH7235 richesH6239 and honour: and he provided him treasuriesH214 for silverH3701, and for goldH2091, and for preciousH3368 stonesH68, and for spicesH1314, and for shieldsH4043, and for allH3605 manner of goodly vesselsH3627; 28storehousesH4543 also for the increaseH8393 of corn and wineH8492 and oilH3323; and stallsH723 for allH3605 manner of beastsH929, and flocksH5739 in folds. 29Moreover he providedH5414 him citiesH5892, and possessionsH7399 of flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 in abundanceH7230: for GodH430 had givenH5414 him veryH3966 muchH7230 substance. 30This sameH1931 HezekiahH2396 also stoppedH5640 the upperH5945 springH4161 of the watersH4325 of GihonH1521, and brought them straightH3474 downH4295 on the westH4628 sideH4628 of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And HezekiahH2396 prospered in allH3605 his worksH4639. 31Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princesH8269 of BabylonH894, who sentH7971 unto him to inquireH1875 of the wonderH4159 that was doneH1961 in the landH776, GodH430 leftH5800 him, to tryH5254 him, that he might knowH3045 allH3605 that was in his heartH3824. 32NowH2005 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of HezekiahH2396, and his goodH2005 deedsH1697, beholdH2005, they are writtenH3789 in the visionH2377 of IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of AmozH531, in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478. 33And HezekiahH2396 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the ascentH4608 of the sepulchres of the sonsH1121 of DavidH1732: and allH3605 JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 didH6213 him honour at his deathH4194. And ManassehH4519 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478.
