1And RehoboamH7346 cameH935 to JerusalemH3389; and he assembledH6950 the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144, a hundredH3967 and eightyH8084 thousandH505 chosen menH970 apt for warH4421, to fightH3898 against IsraelH3478, that he might bringH935 the kingdomH4467 again to RehoboamH7346. 2But the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to ShemaiahH8098 the manH376 of 1GodH430, sayingH559, 3Speak unto RehoboamH7346, the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and unto all IsraelH3478 in JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144, sayingH559, 4ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: GoH5927 not up, nor fightH3898 with your brethren; returnH7725 every manH376 to his houseH1004; for this thingH1697 is from me. And they hearkened to the wordsH1697 of Jehovah, and returnedH7725 from goingH5927 against JeroboamH3379. 5And RehoboamH7346 dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389, and builtH1129 citiesH5892 for defence in JudahH3063. 6And he builtH1129 Bethlehem, and EtamH5862, and TekoaH8620, 7and Beth-zurH1049, and Soco, and AdullamH5725, 8and GathH1661, and MareshahH4762, and ZiphH2128, 9and Adoraim, and LachishH3923, and AzekahH5825, 10and ZorahH6881, and Ajalon, and HebronH2275, which are in JudahH3063 and in BenjaminH1144, fortified citiesH5892. 11And he fortified the strongholds, and putH5414 captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oilH8081 and wineH3196; 12and in every several cityH5892, targets and spearsH7420, and madeH2388 them exceedinglyH3966 strongH2388. And JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144 wereH1961 his. 13And the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881 that were in all IsraelH3478 resorted to him out of all their districts; 14for the LevitesH3881 leftH5800 their suburbs and their possessionsH272, and came to JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389: for JeroboamH3379 and his sonsH1121 had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah; 15and he ordained for himself priestsH3548 for the highH1116 placesH1116, and for the he-goats and for the calvesH5695 that he had madeH6213. 16— And after them, those out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 that setH5414 their heartH3824 to seekH1245 Jehovah the 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, to sacrificeH2076 to Jehovah the 3GodH430 of their fathersH1. 17And they strengthenedH2388 the kingdomH4438 of JudahH3063, and madeH2388 RehoboamH7346 the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010 strongH2388 threeH7969 yearsH8141; for during threeH7969 yearsH8141 they walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of DavidH1732 and SolomonH8010. 18And RehoboamH7346 tookH3947 MahalathH4258 the daughterH1323 of Jerimoth the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 as wifeH802, [and of] AbihailH32 the daughterH1323 of EliabH446 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448. 19And she boreH3205 him children: JeushH3266, and ShemariahH8114, and Zaham. 20And after her he tookH3947 Maachah the daughterH1323 of AbsalomH53; and she boreH3205 him AbijahH29, and AttaiH6262, and ZizaH2124, and ShelomithH8019. 21And RehoboamH7346 lovedH157 Maachah the daughterH1323 of AbsalomH53 above all his wivesH802 and his concubinesH6370; for he had takenH5375 eighteen wivesH802 and sixtyH8346 concubinesH6370, and he begot twenty-eight sonsH1121 and sixtyH8346 daughtersH1323. 22And RehoboamH7346 established AbijahH29 the sonH1121 of Maachah at the headH7218, to be rulerH5057 among his brethren; for [he thought] to make him kingH4427. 23And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sonsH1121 throughout all the landsH776 of JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144, to all the fortified citiesH5892; and he gaveH5414 them foodH4202 in abundanceH7230. And he desired [for them] a multitudeH1995 of wivesH802.
