2 Chronicles 32
1After these thingsH1697, and this faithfulnessH571, SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935, and entered into JudahH3063, and encampedH2583 against the fortifiedH1219 citiesH5892, and thought to win them for himself. 2And when HezekiahH2396 sawH7200 that SennacheribH5576 was comeH935, and that he was purposed to fight against JerusalemH3389, 3he took counselH3289 with his princesH8269 and his mightyH1368 menH1368 to stopH5640 the watersH4325 of the fountains which were without the cityH5892; and they helpedH5826 him. 4So there was gatheredH6908 muchH7227 peopleH5971 togetherH6908, and they stoppedH5640 all the fountains, and the brook that flowed through the midstH8432 of the landH776, sayingH559, WhyH4100 should the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 comeH935, and findH4672 muchH7227 waterH4325? 5And he tookH2388 courage, and builtH1129 up all the wallH2346 that was brokenH6555 downH6555, and raised it up to the towersH4026, and the otherH312 wallH2346 without, and strengthenedH2388 MilloH4407 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, and madeH6213 weaponsH7973 and shieldsH4043 in abundanceH7230. 6And he setH5414 captains of warH4421 over the peopleH5971, and gatheredH6908 them togetherH6908 to him in the broad place at the gateH8179 of the cityH5892, and spake comfortably to them, sayingH559, 7Be strongH2388 and of good courage, be not afraidH3372 nor dismayedH2865 for the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, nor for all the multitudeH1995 that is with him; for there is a greaterH7227 with us than with him: 8with him is an armH2220 of fleshH1320; but with us is Jehovah our GodH430 to helpH5826 us, and to fightH3898 our battlesH4421. And the peopleH5971 rested themselves upon the wordsH1697 of HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063.
9After this did SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sendH7971 his servantsH5650 to JerusalemH3389 (now he was before LachishH3923, and all his power with him), unto HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and unto all JudahH3063 that were at JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, 10ThusH3541 saith SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, Whereon do ye trustH982, that ye abide the siegeH4692 in JerusalemH3389? 11Doth not HezekiahH2396 persuade you, to giveH5414 you over to dieH4191 by famineH7458 and by thirstH6772, sayingH559, Jehovah our GodH430 will deliverH5337 us out of the handH3709 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804? 12Hath not the same HezekiahH2396 taken awayH5493 his highH1116 placesH1116 and his altarsH4196, and commanded JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, Ye shall worship before oneH259 altarH4196, and upon it shall ye burn incenseH6999? 13KnowH3045 ye not what I and my fathersH1 have done unto all the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776? Were the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the landsH776 in any wise ableH3201 to deliverH5337 their landH776 out of my handH3027? 14Who was there among all the godsH430 of those nationsH1471 which my fathersH1 utterly destroyed, that could deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, that your GodH430 should be ableH3201 to deliverH5337 you out of my handH3027? 15NowH6258 thereforeH6258 let not HezekiahH2396 deceiveH5377 you, nor persuade you after this manner, neither believeH539 ye him; for no godH430 of any nationH1471 or kingdomH4467 was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, and out of the handH3027 of my fathersH1: how much less shall your GodH430 deliverH5337 you out of my handH3027?
16And his servantsH5650 spake yetH5750 more against Jehovah GodH430, and against his servantH5650 HezekiahH2396. 17He wroteH3789 also lettersH5612, to rail on Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and to speak against him, sayingH559, As the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the landsH776, which have not deliveredH5337 their peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, soH3651 shall not the GodH430 of HezekiahH2396 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027. 18And they cried with a loud voiceH6963 in the Jews’ language unto the peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 that were on the wallH2346, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might takeH3920 the cityH5892. 19And they spake of the GodH430 of JerusalemH3389, as of the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776, which are the workH4639 of men’sH120 handsH3027.
20And HezekiahH2396 the kingH4428, and IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of AmozH531, prayedH6419 because of this, and criedH2199 to heavenH8064. 21And Jehovah sentH7971 an angelH4397, who cut off all the mightyH1368 menH1368 of valor, and the leadersH8269 and captains, in the campH4264 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. So he returnedH7725 with shameH1322 of faceH6440 to his own landH776. And when he was comeH935 into the houseH1004 of his godH430, they that cameH935 forthH7971 from his own bowelsH4578 slew him there with the swordH2719. 22Thus Jehovah savedH3467 HezekiahH2396 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 from the handH3027 of SennacheribH5576 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and from the handH3027 of all others, and guided them on every side. 23And manyH7227 broughtH935 giftsH4503 unto Jehovah to JerusalemH3389, and preciousH4030 things to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; soH3651 that he was exalted in the sight of all nationsH1471 from thenceforth.
24In those daysH3117 HezekiahH2396 was sickH2470 even unto deathH4191: and he prayedH6419 unto Jehovah; and he spake unto him, and gaveH5414 him a signH4159. 25But HezekiahH2396 rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heartH3820 wasH1961 lifted up: therefore there wasH1961 wrathH7110 upon him, and upon JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 26Notwithstanding HezekiahH2396 humbledH3665 himself for the pride of his heartH3820, both he and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, so that the wrathH7110 of Jehovah cameH935 not upon them in the daysH3117 of HezekiahH2396.
27And HezekiahH2396 had exceeding muchH7235 richesH6239 and honorH3519: and he provided him treasuriesH214 for silverH3701, and for goldH2091, and for preciousH3368 stonesH68, and for spicesH1314, and for shieldsH4043, and for all manner of goodly vesselsH3627; 28store-houses also for the increase of grainH1715 and newH8492 wineH8492 and oilH3323; and stallsH723 for all manner of beasts, and flocksH5739 in folds. 29Moreover he provided him citiesH5892, and possessionsH7399 of flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 in abundanceH7230; for GodH430 had givenH5414 him veryH3966 much substance. 30This same HezekiahH2396 also stoppedH5640 the upperH5945 spring of the watersH4325 of GihonH1521, and brought them straightH3474 down on the westH4628 side of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And HezekiahH2396 prospered in all his worksH4639. 31Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princesH8269 of BabylonH894, who sentH7971 unto him to inquire of the wonderH4159 that wasH1961 done in the landH776, GodH430 leftH5800 him, to try him, that he might knowH3045 all that wasH1961 in his heartH3824.
32Now the restH3499 of the acts of HezekiahH2396, and his good deeds, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the visionH2377 of IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of AmozH531, in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478. 33And HezekiahH2396 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the ascentH4608 of the sepulchres of the sonsH1121 of DavidH1732: and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did him honorH3519 at his deathH4194. And ManassehH4519 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
