2 Chronicles 34

Darby Bible

1JosiahH2977 was eightH8083 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 thirty-one yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 2And he did what was rightH3225 in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the waysH1870 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 nor to the left. 3And in the eighth yearH8141 of his reignH4427, while he was yetH5750 youngH5288, he beganH2490 to seekH1875 after the 1GodH430 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1; and in the twelfth yearH8141 he beganH2490 to purge JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 from the highH1116 placesH1116, and the Asherahs, and the graven images, and the molten images. 4And they brokeH7665 down the altarsH4196 of the BaalsH1168 in his presenceH6440; and the sun-pillars that were on high above them he cutH1438 down; and the Asherahs and the graven images and the molten images he brokeH7665 in pieces, and made dust [of them] and strewed it upon the gravesH6913 of those that had sacrificedH2076 to them; 5and he burnedH8313 the bonesH6106 of the priestsH3548 upon their altarsH4196, and purged JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 6And [so did he] in the citiesH5892 of ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669 and SimeonH8095, even to NaphtaliH5321, in their ruins roundH5439 about; 7and he brokeH5422 down the altarsH4196, and beatH3807 the Asherahs and the graven images into powder, and cutH1438 down all the sun-pillars throughout the landH776 of IsraelH3478, and returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389. 8And in the eighteenth yearH8141 of his reignH4427, when he purged the landH776 and the houseH1004, he sentH7971 ShaphanH8227 the sonH1121 of AzaliahH683, and MaaseiahH4641 the governor of the cityH5892, and JoahH3098 the sonH1121 of Joahaz the chronicler, to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of Jehovah his 2GodH430. 9And they cameH935 to Hilkijah the high priestH3548, and they delivered [to them] the moneyH3701 that had been broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of 3GodH430, which the LevitesH3881 that keptH8104 the doors had gatheredH622 of the handH3027 of ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669, and of all the remnantH7611 of IsraelH3478, and of all JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144, and of the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389. 10And they gaveH5414 [it] into the handH3027 of them that did the workH4399, that had the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and they gaveH5414 it to the workmen who wrought in the houseH1004 of Jehovah to reinstate and repairH2388 the houseH1004: 11they gaveH5414 [it] to the carpenters and the buildersH1129, to buyH7069 hewn stoneH68, and timber for the joists, and to floor the housesH1004 that the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 had destroyedH7843. 12And the menH376 did the workH4399 faithfully. And over them were appointedH6485 JahathH3189 and ObadiahH5662, LevitesH3881, of the children of MerariH4847, and ZechariahH2148 and MeshullamH4918, of the children of the KohathitesH6956, for the oversight; and all these LevitesH3881 were skilledH995 in instrumentsH3627 of music. 13They were also over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that workedH4399 in any manner of serviceH5656. And of the LevitesH3881 were the scribesH5608, and officersH7860, and doorkeepers. 14And when they broughtH935 out the moneyH3701 that had been broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of Jehovah, Hilkijah the priestH3548 foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of Jehovah by MosesH4872. 15Then Hilkijah spoke and saidH559 to ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, I have foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. And Hilkijah gaveH5414 the bookH5612 to ShaphanH8227. 16And ShaphanH8227 carried the bookH5612 to the kingH4428. And moreover he broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 againH5750 sayingH559, All that was committed to the handH3027 of thy servantsH5650, they do; 17and they have emptied out the moneyH3701 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and have delivered it into the handH3027 of the overseers, and into the handH3027 of the workmen. 18And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 informed the kingH4428 sayingH559, Hilkijah the priestH3548 has givenH5414 me a bookH5612. And ShaphanH8227 readH7121 out of it before the kingH4428. 19And it came to pass when the kingH4428 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of the lawH8451, that he rent his garmentsH899. 20And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 Hilkijah, and AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and AbdonH5658 the sonH1121 of MicahH4318, and ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, and AsaiahH6222 a servantH5650 of the kingH4428, sayingH559, 21Go, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for them that are leftH7604 in IsraelH3478 and in JudahH3063, concerning the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 which is foundH4672; for greatH1419 is the wrathH2534 of Jehovah that is pouredH5413 out upon us, because our fathersH1 have not keptH8104 the wordH1697 of Jehovah, to do according to all that is writtenH3789 in this bookH5612. 22And Hilkijah and they that the kingH4428 [had appointed] went to HuldahH2468 the prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of ShallumH7967 the sonH1121 of Tokehath, sonH1121 of Hasrah, keeperH8104 of the wardrobe: now she dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389 in the secondH4932 quarter [of the town]; and they spokeH1696 with her to that effect. 23And she saidH559 to them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 4GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Tell the manH376 that sentH7971 you to me, 24ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon this placeH4725, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, all the cursesH423 that are writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 which they have readH7121 before the kingH4428 of JudahH3063. 25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incenseH6999 unto otherH312 5godsH430, that they might provokeH3707 me to angerH3707 with all the worksH4639 of their handsH3027; therefore my fury shall be pouredH5413 out upon this placeH4725, and shall not be quenchedH3518. 26But to the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who sentH7971 you to inquire of Jehovah, thusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to him: ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 6GodH430 of IsraelH3478 touching the wordsH1697 which thou hast heardH8085: 27Because thy heartH3824 was tender, and thou didst humbleH3665 thyself before 7GodH430, when thou heardest his wordsH1697 against this placeH4725 and against the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy garmentsH899 and weepH1058 before me, I alsoH1571 have heardH8085 [thee], saith Jehovah. 28Behold, I will gatherH622 thee unto thy fathersH1, and thou shalt be gatheredH622 to thy graveH6913 in peaceH7965; and thine eyesH5869 shall not seeH7200 all the evilH7451 that I will bringH935 upon this placeH4725, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof. And they broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 again. 29And the kingH4428 sentH7971 and gatheredH622 all the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063 and of JerusalemH3389. 30And the kingH4428 wentH5927 up into the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and all the menH376 of JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, and all the peopleH5971, greatH1419 and smallH6996; and he readH7121 in their earsH241 all the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 of the covenantH1285 which had been foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 31And the kingH4428 stoodH5975 in his placeH5977, and madeH6213 a covenantH1285 before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687 and his testimoniesH5715 and his statutesH2706 with all his heartH3824 and with all his soulH5315, to perform the wordsH1697 of the covenantH1285 that are writtenH3789 in this bookH5612. 32And he caused all that were present in JerusalemH3389 and BenjaminH1144 to standH5975 [to it]. And the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did according to the covenantH1285 of 8GodH430, the 9GodH430 of their fathersH1. 33And JosiahH2977 removedH5493 all the abominationsH8441 out of all the countries that belonged to the children of IsraelH3478, and made to serveH5647 all that were foundH4672 in IsraelH3478, — to serveH5647 Jehovah their 10GodH430: all his daysH3117 they did not departH5493 from following Jehovah, the 11GodH430 of their fathersH1.
