2 Chronicles 24

Darby Bible

1JoashH3101 was sevenH7651 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was ZibiahH6645 of Beer-sheba. 2And JoashH3101 did what was rightH3477 in the sight of Jehovah all the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 3And JehoiadaH3077 tookH5375 for him twoH8147 wivesH802; and he begot sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323. 4And it came to pass after this, that JoashH3101 wasH1961 minded to renewH2318 the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 5And he gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, and saidH559 to them, GoH3318 out to the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and collect of all IsraelH3478 moneyH3701 for the repairH2388 of the houseH1004 of your 1GodH430 from yearH8141 to yearH8141, and ye shall hastenH4116 the matterH1697. But the LevitesH3881 hastenedH4116 it not. 6And the kingH4428 calledH7121 for JehoiadaH3077 the chiefH7218, and saidH559 to him, WhyH4069 hast thou not requiredH1875 of the LevitesH3881 to bringH935 in out of JudahH3063 and out of JerusalemH3389 the tributeH4864 of MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of Jehovah [laid upon] the congregation of IsraelH3478, for the tentH168 of the testimonyH5715? 7For the wicked AthaliahH6271 [and] her sonsH1121 had devastated the houseH1004 of 2GodH430; and alsoH1571 all the hallowed thingsH6944 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah had they employed for the BaalsH1168. 8And the kingH4428 commanded, and they madeH6213 a chestH727, and setH5414 it at the gateH8179 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah without, 9and they madeH5414 a proclamationH6963 through JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, to bringH935 to Jehovah the tributeH4864 of MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of 3GodH430 [laid upon] IsraelH3478 in the wildernessH4057. 10And all the princesH8269 and all the peopleH5971 rejoicedH8055, and broughtH935 in and castH7993 into the chestH727, until they had finishedH3615. 11And it cameH935 to pass at the timeH6256 the chestH727 wasH1961 broughtH935 for the king's control by the handH3027 of the LevitesH3881, and when they sawH7200 that there wasH1961 much moneyH3701, the king's scribeH5608 and high priest's officerH6496 cameH935, and they emptied the chestH727, and tookH5375 it, and carriedH5375 it to its placeH4725 again. ThusH3541 they did dayH3117 by dayH3117, and gatheredH622 moneyH3701 in abundanceH7230. 12And the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077 gaveH5414 it to such as did the workH4399 of the serviceH5656 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and they hiredH7936 masons and carpenters to renewH2318 the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and alsoH1571 such as wrought in ironH1270 and bronzeH5178, to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 13So the workmen wrought, and the workH4399 was perfected by them, and they setH5975 the houseH1004 of 4GodH430 in its state, and strengthenedH553 it. 14And when they had finishedH3615, they broughtH935 the restH7605 of the moneyH3701 before the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077; and they madeH6213 of it vesselsH3627 for the houseH1004 of Jehovah, utensilsH3627 to minister, and with which to offerH5927 up, and cups, and utensilsH3627 of goldH2091 and silverH3701. And they offeredH5927 up burnt-offerings in the houseH1004 of Jehovah continuallyH8548 all the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077. 15And JehoiadaH3077 grew old and was full of daysH3117, and he diedH4191; he was a hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 old when he diedH4191. 16And they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 among the kingsH4428, because he had done goodH2896 in IsraelH3478, both toward 5GodH430 and toward his houseH1004. 17And after the deathH4194 of JehoiadaH3077 the princesH8269 of JudahH3063 cameH935 and madeH8085 obeisance to the kingH4428; thenH227 the kingH4428 hearkened to them. 18And they forsook the houseH1004 of Jehovah the 6GodH430 of their fathersH1, and servedH5647 the Asherahs and idolsH6091; and wrathH7110 came upon JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 for this their trespass. 19And he sentH7971 prophetsH5030 among them to bringH7725 them again to Jehovah, and they testifiedH5749 against them; but they would not giveH238 earH238. 20And the SpiritH7307 of 7GodH430 came upon ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548; and he stoodH5975 up above the peopleH5971 and saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith 8GodH430: Wherefore do ye transgressH5674 the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah? And ye cannot prosperH6743; for ye have forsaken Jehovah, and he hath forsaken you. 21And they conspired against him, and stonedH7275 him with stonesH68 at the commandH4687 of the kingH4428 in the courtH2691 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 22And kingH4428 JoashH3101 rememberedH2142 not the kindness which JehoiadaH3077 his fatherH1 had done to him, but slewH2026 his sonH1121. And whenH834 he diedH4191, he saidH559, Jehovah seeH7200 and requireH1875 [it]! 23And it cameH935 to pass at the end of the yearH8141 [that] the army of Syria cameH935 up against him; and they entered into JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and destroyedH7843 all the princesH8269 of the peopleH5971 from among the peopleH5971, and sentH7971 all the spoilH7998 of them to the kingH4428 at DamascusH1834. 24Truly with a smallH4705 company of menH376 cameH935 the armyH2428 of the Syrians, but Jehovah delivered a veryH3966 great armyH2428 into their handH3027, because they had forsaken Jehovah the 9GodH430 of their fathersH1; and they executed judgmentH8201 upon JoashH3101. 25And when they had departed from him (for they leftH5800 him in greatH7227 diseases), his own servantsH5650 conspired against him for the bloodH1818 of the sonsH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548, and slewH2026 him on his bedH4296, and he diedH4191; and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, but they did not buryH6912 him in the sepulchres of the kingsH4428. 26And these are they that conspired against him: ZabadH2066 the sonH1121 of ShimeathH8100 an Ammonitess, and JehozabadH3075 the sonH1121 of Shimrith a Moabitess. 27And as to his sonsH1121, and the greatnessH7230 of the burdens [laid] upon him, and the building of the houseH1004 of 10GodH430, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the treatise of the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428. And AmaziahH558 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
