2 Chronicles 20
Darby Bible
1And it cameH935 to pass after this [that] the children of MoabH4124, and the children of AmmonH5983, and with them certain of the Maonites, cameH935 against JehoshaphatH3092 to battleH4421. 2And they cameH935 and toldH5046 JehoshaphatH3092 sayingH559, A greatH7227 multitudeH1995 is comeH935 against thee from beyond the seaH3220, from Syria; and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamarH2688, which is Engedi. 3And JehoshaphatH3092 fearedH3372, and setH5414 himself to seekH1875 Jehovah, and proclaimedH7121 a fastH6685 throughout JudahH3063. 4And JudahH3063 gatheredH6908 themselves togetherH6908 to ask [help] of Jehovah: even out of all the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 they cameH935 to seekH1245 Jehovah. 5And JehoshaphatH3092 stoodH5975 in the congregation of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, before the newH2319 courtH2691; 6and he saidH559, Jehovah, 1GodH430 of our fathersH1, art not thou 2GodH430 in the heavensH8064, and rulest thou not over all the kingdomsH4467 of the nationsH1471? And in thy handH3027 there is power and might, and none can withstand thee. 7Hast not thou, our 3GodH430, dispossessedH3423 the inhabitantsH3427 of this landH776 before thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and givenH5414 it for everH5769 to the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85, thy friendH157? 8And they have dweltH3427 therein, and have builtH1129 thee a sanctuaryH4720 therein for thy nameH8034, sayingH559, 9If evilH7451 comeH935 upon us, swordH2719, judgment, or pestilenceH1698, or famineH7458, and we standH5975 before this houseH1004 and before thee — for thy nameH8034 is in this houseH1004 — and cryH2199 unto thee in our distressH6869, then thou wilt hearH8085 and saveH3467. 10And nowH6258, behold, the children of AmmonH5983 and MoabH4124, and those of mount SeirH8165, amongst whom thou wouldest not let IsraelH3478 goH935 when they cameH935 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, (for they turnedH5493 from them, and destroyedH8045 them not,) 11behold, they reward us, in comingH935 to cast us out of thy possessionH3423, which thou hast given us to possessH3423. 12Our 4GodH430, wilt thou not judgeH8199 them? for we have no might in presenceH6440 of this greatH7227 company which cometh against us, neither knowH3045 we what to do; but our eyesH5869 are upon thee. 13And all JudahH3063 stoodH5975 before Jehovah, with their littleH2945 onesH2945, their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121. 14And upon JahazielH3166 the sonH1121 of ZechariahH2148, the sonH1121 of BenaiahH1141, the sonH1121 of JeielH3273, the sonH1121 of MattaniahH4983, a LeviteH3881 of the sonsH1121 of AsaphH623, upon him came the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah, in the midstH8432 of the congregation; 15and he saidH559, Be attentiveH7181, all JudahH3063, and ye inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and thou kingH4428 JehoshaphatH3092! ThusH3541 saith Jehovah unto you: FearH3372 not, nor be dismayedH2865 by reason of this greatH7227 multitudeH1995; for the battleH4421 is not yours, but 5God's. 16To-morrow goH5927 down against them: behold, they comeH5927 up by the ascentH4608 of Ziz; and ye shall findH4672 them at the endH5490 of the valley, before the wildernessH4057 of Jeruel. 17Ye shall not have to fightH3898 on this occasion: setH5975 yourselves, standH5975 and seeH7200 the salvationH3444 of Jehovah [who is] with you! JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, fearH3372 not nor be dismayedH2865; to-morrow goH3318 out against them, and Jehovah will be with you. 18And JehoshaphatH3092 bowedH7812 his head with his faceH6440 to the groundH776; and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 fellH5307 downH7812 before Jehovah, worshipping Jehovah. 19And the LevitesH3881, of the sonsH1121 of the KohathitesH6956, and of the sonsH1121 of the KorahitesH7145, stoodH6965 up to praiseH1984 Jehovah the 6GodH430 of IsraelH3478 with an exceeding loud voiceH6963. 20And they roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and wentH3318 forthH3318 towards the wildernessH4057 of TekoaH8620; and as they wentH3318 forthH3318, JehoshaphatH3092 stoodH5975 and saidH559, HearH8085 me, JudahH3063, and ye inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389! BelieveH539 in Jehovah your 7GodH430, and ye shall be establishedH539; believeH539 his prophetsH5030, and ye shall prosperH6743! 21And he consultedH3289 with the peopleH5971, and appointedH5975 singersH7891 to Jehovah, and those that should praiseH1984 in holyH6944 splendour, as they wentH3318 forthH3318 before the armedH2502 men, and sayH559, GiveH3034 thanksH3034 to Jehovah; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for everH5769! 22And when they beganH2490 the song of triumph and praiseH8416, Jehovah setH5414 liers-in-wait against the children of AmmonH5983, MoabH4124, and mount SeirH8165, who had comeH935 against JudahH3063, and they were smitten. 23And the children of AmmonH5983 and MoabH4124 stoodH5975 up against the inhabitantsH3427 of mount SeirH8165, to exterminate and destroyH8045 [them]; and when they had made an endH3615 of the inhabitantsH3427 of SeirH8165, they helpedH5826 to destroyH8045 oneH376 another. 24And JudahH3063 cameH935 on to the mountain-watch in the wildernessH4057, and they looked toward the multitudeH1995; and behold, they were dead bodies fallenH5307 to the earthH776, and none had escapedH6413. 25And JehoshaphatH3092 and his peopleH5971 cameH935 to plunderH962 the spoilH7998 of them, and they foundH4672 among them in abundanceH7230, both riches with the dead bodies, and preciousH2530 thingsH7969, and they stripped off for themselves more than they could carryH4853 awayH5337; and they wereH1961 threeH7969 daysH3117 in plundering the spoilH7998, it was so much. 26And on the fourthH7243 dayH3117 they assembledH6950 themselves in the valleyH6010 of BerachahH1294, for there they blessedH1288 Jehovah; thereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 was calledH7121 The valleyH6010 of BerachahH1294, to this dayH3117. 27And they returnedH7725, all the menH376 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and JehoshaphatH3092 at their headH7218, to goH7725 again to JerusalemH3389 with joyH8057; for Jehovah had made them to rejoiceH8055 over their enemiesH341. 28And they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 with lutes and harpsH3658 and trumpetsH2689, to the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 29And the terrorH6343 of 8GodH430 wasH1961 on all the kingdomsH4467 of the landsH776, when they had heardH8085 that Jehovah foughtH3898 against the enemiesH341 of IsraelH3478. 30And the realm of JehoshaphatH3092 was quietH8252; and his 9GodH430 gaveH5117 him restH5117 roundH5439 about. 31And JehoshaphatH3092 reignedH4427 over JudahH3063: he was thirty-five yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twenty-five yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was AzubahH5806, daughterH1323 of ShilhiH7977. 32And he walked in the wayH1870 of AsaH609 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 from it, doing what was rightH3477 in the sight of Jehovah. 33OnlyH389, the highH1116 placesH1116 were not removedH5493; and as yetH5750 the peopleH5971 had not directedH3559 their heartsH3824 to the 10GodH430 of their fathersH1. 34And the restH3499 of the acts of JehoshaphatH3092, firstH7223 and lastH314, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the wordsH1697 of JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607, which are inserted in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478. 35And after this JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 joinedH2266 himself with AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, who did very wickedlyH7561. 36And he joinedH2266 himself with him to makeH6213 shipsH591 to go to TarshishH8659; and they madeH6213 the shipsH591 in Ezion-geberH6100. 37And EliezerH461 the sonH1121 of Dodavah, of MareshahH4762, prophesiedH5012 against JehoshaphatH3092, sayingH559, Because thou hast joinedH2266 thyself with AhaziahH274, Jehovah has brokenH7665 thy worksH4639. And the shipsH591 were brokenH7665, and could not go to TarshishH8659.
