2 Chronicles 25
Darby Bible
1AmaziahH558 was twenty-five yearsH8141 old [when] he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twenty-nine yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was JehoaddanH3086 of JerusalemH3389. 2And he did what was rightH3477 in the sight of Jehovah, yet not with a perfectH8003 heartH3824. 3And it came to pass when the kingdomH4467 wasH1961 established unto him, that he killedH2026 his servantsH5650 who had smitten the kingH4428 his fatherH1. 4But their children he did not putH4191 to deathH4191, but [did] according to that which is writtenH3789 in the lawH8451 in the bookH5612 of MosesH4872, wherein Jehovah commandedH6680 sayingH559, The fathersH1 shall not dieH4191 for the children, nor shall the children dieH4191 for the fathersH1, but every manH376 shall dieH4191 for his own sinH2399. 5And AmaziahH558 gatheredH6908 JudahH3063 togetherH6908 and arranged them according to the fathers' housesH1004, according to the captains of thousandsH505 and the captains of hundredsH3967, throughout JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144; and he numbered them from twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old and upwardsH4605, and foundH4672 them threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505 choice menH970, able for military serviceH6635, that could handle spearH7420 and target. 6He hiredH7936 also a hundredH3967 thousandH505 mightyH1368 menH1368 of valour out of IsraelH3478 for a hundredH3967 talentsH3603 of silverH3701. 7But there cameH935 a manH376 of 1GodH430 to him, sayingH559, O kingH4428, let not the hostH6635 of IsraelH3478 goH935 with thee; for Jehovah is not with IsraelH3478, [with] all the children of EphraimH669. 8But if thou wilt goH935, do [it]; be strongH2388 for the battleH4421: 2GodH430 will makeH6213 thee fall before the enemyH341, for there is with 3GodH430 powerH3581 to helpH5826 and to cast down. 9And AmaziahH558 saidH559 to the manH376 of 4GodH430, But what is to be done for the hundredH3967 talentsH3603 which I have givenH5414 to the troopH1416 of IsraelH3478? And the manH376 of 5GodH430 saidH559, Jehovah is able to giveH5414 thee muchH7235 more than this. 10Then AmaziahH558 separatedH914 them, — the troopH1416 that was comeH935 to him out of EphraimH669, — to goH935 home again. And their angerH639 was greatly kindled against JudahH3063, and they returnedH7725 home in fierce angerH639. 11But AmaziahH558 strengthenedH2388 himself, and ledH5090 forth his peopleH5971, and went to the valleyH1516 of saltH4417, and smote of the children of SeirH8165 tenH6235 thousandH505. 12And the children of JudahH3063 tookH7617 tenH6235 thousandH505 captiveH7617, aliveH2416, and broughtH935 them to the topH7218 of the cliffH5553, and castH7993 them downH7993 from the topH7218 of the cliffH5553, so that they all were brokenH1234 in pieces. 13But those of the troopH1416 that AmaziahH558 had sent backH7725, that they should not goH7725 with him to battleH4421, fell upon the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 from SamariaH8111 as far as Beth-horonH1032, and smote threeH7969 thousandH505 of them, and tookH962 muchH7227 spoilH962. 14And it cameH935 to pass after AmaziahH558 wasH1961 comeH935 from the slaughter of the EdomitesH130, that he broughtH935 the 6godsH430 of the children of SeirH8165, and setH5975 them up to beH1961 his 7godsH430, and bowedH7812 himself downH5221 before them, and burned incenseH6999 to them. 15And the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against AmaziahH558, and he sentH7971 to him a prophetH5030, who saidH559 to him, WhyH4100 dost thou seekH1875 after the 8godsH430 of a peopleH5971 who have not deliveredH5337 their own peopleH5971 out of thy handH3027? 16And it came to pass as he talked with him, that [Amaziah] saidH559 to him, Hast thou beenH1961 madeH6213 the king's counsellor? Forbear; whyH4100 shouldest thou beH1961 smitten? Then the prophetH5030 forbore, and saidH559, I knowH3045 that 9GodH430 has determined to destroyH7843 thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened to my counselH6098. 17And AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 took counselH3289, and sentH7971 to JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059, the sonH1121 of JehuH3058, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, ComeH1980, let us lookH7200 one another in the faceH6440. 18And JoashH3101 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 to AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, The thorn-bush that is in LebanonH3844 sentH7971 to the cedarH730 that is in LebanonH3844, sayingH559, GiveH5414 thy daughterH1323 to my sonH1121 as wifeH802; and there passedH5674 by the wild beast that is in LebanonH3844, and trode down the thorn-bush. 19Thou thinkest, Lo, thou hast smitten EdomH123; and thy heartH3820 has liftedH5375 thee up to boast: abide nowH6258 at home; whyH4100 shouldest thou contend with misfortune, that thou shouldest fallH5307, thou and JudahH3063 with thee? 20But AmaziahH558 would not hearH8085; for it was of 10GodH430, that he might deliver them into [the enemy's] handH3027, because they had soughtH1875 after the 11godsH430 of EdomH123. 21And JoashH3101 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH5927 up; and they lookedH7200 one another in the faceH6440, he and AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, at Beth-shemeshH1053, which is in JudahH3063. 22And JudahH3063 was routed before IsraelH3478; and they fledH5127 every manH376 to his tentH168. 23And JoashH3101 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 took AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, the sonH1121 of JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059, at Beth-shemeshH1053, and broughtH935 him to JerusalemH3389, and he brokeH6555 down the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389 from the gateH8179 of EphraimH669 to the corner gateH8179, fourH702 hundredH3967 cubitsH520. 24And he [took] all the goldH2091 and the silverH3701, and all the vesselsH3627 that were foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of 12GodH430 with Obed-EdomH5654, and the treasuresH214 of the king's houseH1004, and hostages, and returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111. 25And AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, livedH2421 after the deathH4191 of JoashH3101 sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, fifteen yearsH8141. 26And the restH3499 of the acts of AmaziahH558, firstH7223 and lastH314, behold, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478? 27And from the timeH6256 that AmaziahH558 turnedH5493 asideH5493 from following Jehovah, they made a conspiracyH7195 against him in JerusalemH3389; and he fledH5127 to LachishH3923; and they sentH7971 after him to LachishH3923, and slew him there. 28And they brought him on horsesH5483, and buriedH6912 him with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of JudahH3063.
