2 Chronicles 28

American Standard Version

1AhazH271 was twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 sixteen yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and he did not that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, like DavidH1732 his fatherH1; 2but he walked in the waysH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, and madeH6213 alsoH1571 molten imagesH4541 for the Baalim. 3Moreover he burnt incenseH6999 in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, and burnt his children in the fireH784, according to the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 whom Jehovah cast out before the children of IsraelH3478. 4And he sacrificedH2076 and burnt incenseH6999 in the highH1116 placesH1116, and on the hillsH1389, and under every green treeH6086.

5Wherefore Jehovah his GodH430 delivered him into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away of his a greatH1419 multitude of captivesH7633, and broughtH935 them to DamascusH1834. And he was alsoH1571 delivered into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, who smote him with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. 6For PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425 slewH2026 in JudahH3063 a hundredH3967 and twentyH6242 thousandH505 in oneH259 dayH3117, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1. 7And Zichri, a mightyH1368 manH1368 of EphraimH669, slewH2026 MaaseiahH4641 the king’sH4428 sonH1121, and AzrikamH5840 the rulerH5057 of the houseH1004, and ElkanahH511 that was next to the kingH4428.

8And the children of IsraelH3478 carried away captiveH7617 of their brethren twoH3967 hundredH3967 thousandH505, womenH802, sonsH1121, and daughtersH1323, and tookH7617 alsoH1571 away muchH7227 spoilH7998 from them, and broughtH935 the spoilH7998 to SamariaH8111. 9But a prophetH5030 of Jehovah was there, whose nameH8034 was OdedH5752: and he wentH3318 out to meet the hostH6635 that cameH935 to SamariaH8111, and saidH559 unto them, Behold, because Jehovah, the GodH430 of your fathersH1, was wroth with JudahH3063, he hath delivered them into your handH3027, and ye have slainH2026 them in a rageH2534 which hath reached up unto heavenH8064. 10And nowH6258 ye purpose to keep under the children of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not even with you trespasses of your own against Jehovah your GodH430? 11NowH6258 hearH8085 me thereforeH6258, and send backH7725 the captivesH7633, that ye have takenH7617 captiveH7617 of your brethren; for the fierce wrath of Jehovah is upon you. 12Then certain of the headsH7218 of the children of EphraimH669, AzariahH5838 the sonH1121 of JohananH3076, Berechiah the sonH1121 of MeshillemothH4919, and Jehizkiah the sonH1121 of ShallumH7967, and AmasaH6021 the sonH1121 of Hadlai, stoodH6965 up against them that cameH935 from the warH6635, 13and saidH559 unto them, Ye shall not bringH935 in the captivesH7633 hither: for ye purpose that which will bringH935 upon us a trespass against Jehovah, to addH3254 unto our sinsH2403 and to our trespass; for our trespass is greatH7227, and there is fierce wrath against IsraelH3478. 14So the armedH2502 men leftH5800 the captivesH7633 and the spoil before the princesH8269 and all the assemblyH6951. 15And the menH376 that have been mentioned by nameH8034 roseH6965 up, and tookH2388 the captivesH7633, and with the spoilH7998 clothedH3847 all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gaveH8248 them to eatH398 and to drinkH8248, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and broughtH935 them to JerichoH3405, the cityH5892 of palm-trees, unto their brethren: then they returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111.

16At that timeH6256 did kingH4428 AhazH271 sendH7971 unto the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 to helpH5826 him. 17For againH5750 the EdomitesH130 had comeH935 and smitten JudahH3063, and carried away captivesH7628. 18The PhilistinesH6430 also had invaded the citiesH5892 of the lowland, and of the SouthH5045 of JudahH3063, and had takenH3920 Beth-shemeshH1053, and AijalonH357, and GederothH1450, and Soco with the towns thereof, and TimnahH8553 with the towns thereof, Gimzo also and the towns thereof: and they dweltH3427 there. 19For Jehovah brought JudahH3063 low because of AhazH271 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; for he had dealt wantonly in JudahH3063, and trespassed sore against Jehovah. 20And Tilgath-pilneser kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935 unto him, and distressed him, but strengthenedH2388 him not. 21For AhazH271 took away a portion out of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and out of the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 and of the princesH8269, and gaveH5414 it unto the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804: but it helped him not.

22And in the timeH6256 of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same kingH4428 AhazH271. 23For he sacrificedH2076 unto the godsH430 of DamascusH1834, which smote him; and he saidH559, Because the godsH430 of the kingsH4428 of Syria helpedH5826 them, therefore will I sacrificeH2076 to them, that they may helpH5826 me. But they wereH1961 the ruin of him, and of all IsraelH3478. 24And AhazH271 gatheredH622 together the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, and cutH7112 in pieces the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, and shutH5462 up the doorsH1817 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and he madeH6213 him altarsH4196 in every cornerH6438 of JerusalemH3389. 25And in every cityH5892 of JudahH3063 he madeH6213 highH1116 placesH1116 to burn incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430, and provokedH3707 to angerH3707 Jehovah, the GodH430 of his fathersH1. 26Now the restH3499 of his acts, and all his waysH1870, firstH7223 and lastH314, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478. 27And AhazH271 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892, even in JerusalemH3389; for they broughtH935 him not into the sepulchres of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478: and HezekiahH2396 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
