2 Chronicles 24

American Standard Version

1JoashH3101 was sevenH7651 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was ZibiahH6645, of Beer-sheba. 2And JoashH3101 did that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah all the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 3And JehoiadaH3077 tookH5375 for him twoH8147 wivesH802; and he begat sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323.

4And it came to pass after this, that JoashH3101 wasH1961 minded to restore the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 5And he gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, and saidH559 to them, GoH3318 out unto the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and gatherH6908 of all IsraelH3478 moneyH3701 to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of your GodH430 from yearH8141 to yearH8141; and see that ye hastenH4116 the matterH1697. Howbeit the LevitesH3881 hastenedH4116 it not. 6And the kingH4428 calledH7121 for JehoiadaH3077 the chiefH7218, and saidH559 unto him, WhyH4069 hast thou not requiredH1875 of the LevitesH3881 to bringH935 in out of JudahH3063 and out of JerusalemH3389 the taxH4864 of MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of Jehovah, and of the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478, for the tentH168 of the testimonyH5715? 7For the sonsH1121 of AthaliahH6271, that wicked woman, had brokenH6555 up the houseH1004 of GodH430; and alsoH1571 all the dedicated thingsH6944 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah did they bestow upon the Baalim.

8So the kingH4428 commanded, and they madeH6213 a chestH727, and setH5414 it without at the gateH8179 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 9And they madeH5414 a proclamationH6963 through JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, to bringH935 in for Jehovah the taxH4864 that MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of GodH430 laid upon IsraelH3478 in the wildernessH4057. 10And all the princesH8269 and all the peopleH5971 rejoicedH8055, and broughtH935 in, and castH7993 into the chestH727, until they had madeH8055 an endH3615. 11And it wasH1961 so, that, at what timeH6256 the chestH727 wasH1961 broughtH935 unto the king’sH4428 officersH6496 by the handH3027 of the LevitesH3881, and when they sawH7200 that there wasH1961 much moneyH3701, the king’sH4428 scribeH5608 and the chiefH7218 priest’sH3548 officerH6496 cameH935 and emptied the chestH727, and tookH5375 it, and carriedH5375 it to its placeH4725 again. ThusH3541 they did dayH3117 by dayH3117, and gatheredH622 moneyH3701 in abundanceH7230. 12And the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077 gaveH5414 it to such as did the workH4399 of the serviceH5656 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and they hiredH7936 masons and carpenters to restore the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and alsoH1571 such as wrought ironH1270 and brass to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 13So the workmen wrought, and the workH4399 of repairing wentH5927 forward in their handsH3027, and they setH5975 up the houseH1004 of GodH430 in its state, and strengthenedH553 it. 14And when they had madeH6213 an endH3615, they broughtH935 the restH7605 of the moneyH3701 before the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077, whereof wereH1961 madeH6213 vesselsH3627 for the houseH1004 of Jehovah, even vesselsH3627 wherewith to minister and to offerH5927, and spoons, and vesselsH3627 of goldH2091 and silverH3701. And they offeredH5927 burnt-offerings in the houseH1004 of Jehovah continuallyH8548 all the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077.

15But JehoiadaH3077 waxed old and was full of daysH3117, and he diedH4191; a hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 old was he when he diedH4191. 16And they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 among the kingsH4428, because he had done goodH2896 in IsraelH3478, and toward GodH430 and his houseH1004. 17Now after the deathH4194 of JehoiadaH3077 cameH935 the princesH8269 of JudahH3063, and madeH8085 obeisance to the kingH4428. ThenH227 the kingH4428 hearkened unto them. 18And they forsook the houseH1004 of Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1, and servedH5647 the Asherim and the idolsH6091: and wrathH7110 came upon JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 for this their guiltiness. 19Yet he sentH7971 prophetsH5030 to them, to bringH7725 them again unto Jehovah; and they testifiedH5749 against them: but they would not giveH238 earH238.

20And the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 came upon ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548; and he stoodH5975 above the peopleH5971, and saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith GodH430, WhyH4100 transgressH5674 ye the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah, so that ye cannot prosperH6743? because ye have forsaken Jehovah, he hath also forsaken you. 21And they conspired against him, and stonedH7275 him with stonesH68 at the commandmentH4687 of the kingH4428 in the courtH2691 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 22Thus JoashH3101 the kingH4428 rememberedH2142 not the kindness which JehoiadaH3077 his fatherH1 had done to him, but slewH2026 his sonH1121. And whenH834 he diedH4191, he saidH559, Jehovah lookH7200 upon it, and requireH1875 it.

23And it cameH935 to pass at the end of the yearH8141, that the army of the Syrians cameH935 up against him: and they cameH935 to JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and destroyedH7843 all the princesH8269 of the peopleH5971 from among the peopleH5971, and sentH7971 all the spoilH7998 of them unto the kingH4428 of DamascusH1834. 24For the armyH2428 of the Syrians cameH935 with a smallH4705 company of menH376; and Jehovah delivered a veryH3966 great host into their handH3027, because they had forsaken Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1. So they executed judgmentH8201 upon JoashH3101.

25And when they were departed from him (for they leftH5800 him very sick), his own servantsH5650 conspired against him for the bloodH1818 of the sonsH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548, and slewH2026 him on his bedH4296, and he diedH4191; and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, but they buriedH6912 him not in the sepulchres of the kingsH4428. 26And these are they that conspired against him: ZabadH2066 the sonH1121 of ShimeathH8100 the Ammonitess, and JehozabadH3075 the sonH1121 of Shimrith the Moabitess. 27Now concerning his sonsH1121, and the greatnessH7230 of the burdens laid upon him, and the rebuilding of the houseH1004 of GodH430, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the commentary of the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428. And AmaziahH558 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
