2 Chronicles 24

Revised Version 1895

1JoashH3101 was sevenH7651 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was ZibiahH6645 of Beer-sheba. 2And JoashH3101 didH6213 that whichH5869 was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068 allH3605 the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 3And JehoiadaH3077 tookH5375 for him twoH8147 wivesH802; and he begat sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323. 4And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 this, that JoashH3101 was minded to restoreH2318 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 5And he gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, and saidH559 to them, GoH3318 outH3318 unto the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and gatherH6908 of allH3605 IsraelH3478 moneyH3701 to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of your GodH430 from yearH8141 to yearH8141, and see that ye hastenH4116 the matterH1697. Howbeit the LevitesH3881 hastenedH4116 it notH3808. 6And the kingH4428 calledH7121 for JehoiadaH3077 the chiefH7218, and saidH559 unto him, WhyH4069 hast thou notH3808 requiredH1875 of the LevitesH3881 to bringH935 in outH5921 of JudahH3063 and outH5921 of JerusalemH3389 the taxH4864 of MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068, and of the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478, for the tentH168 of the testimonyH5715? 7For the sonsH1121 of AthaliahH6271, that wickedH4849 womanH1004, had brokenH6555 upH853 the houseH1004 of GodH430; and also allH3605 the dedicatedH6944 things of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 didH6213 they bestow upon the Baalim. 8SoH6213 the kingH4428 commandedH559, and they madeH6213 a chestH727, and setH5414 it without at the gateH8179 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 9And they madeH5414 a proclamationH6963 throughH5921 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, to bringH935 in for the LORDH3068 the taxH4864 that MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of GodH430 laidH5414 uponH5921 IsraelH3478 in the wildernessH4057. 10And allH3605 the princesH8269 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 rejoicedH8055, and broughtH935 in, and castH7993 intoH935 the chestH727, untilH5704 they had madeH8055 an endH3615. 11And it was soH6213, that at whatH3541 time the chestH727 was broughtH935 unto the king’sH4428 officeH6486 by the handH3027 of the LevitesH3881, and when they sawH7200 that there was muchH7230 moneyH3701, the king’sH4428 scribeH5608 and the chiefH7218 priest’sH3548 officerH6496 cameH935 and emptiedH6168 the chestH727, and tookH5375 it, and carriedH5375 it to itsH853 placeH4725 againH7725. ThusH3541 they didH6213 dayH3117 by dayH3117, and gatheredH622 moneyH3701 in abundanceH7230. 12And the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077 gaveH5414 it to suchH1571 as didH6213 the workH4399 of the serviceH5656 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068; and they hiredH7936 masonsH2672 and carpentersH2796 to restoreH2318 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and also suchH1571 as wrought ironH1270 and brassH5178 to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 13SoH6213 the workmenH4399 wrought, and the workH4399 was perfected by them, and they setH5975 upH5927 the houseH1004 of GodH430 in itsH853 state, and strengthenedH553 it. 14And when they had madeH6213 an endH3615, they broughtH935 the restH7605 of the moneyH3701 beforeH6440 the kingH4428 and JehoiadaH3077, whereof were madeH6213 vesselsH3627 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, evenH853 vesselsH3627 to minister, and to offerH5927 withal, and spoonsH3709, and vesselsH3627 of goldH2091 and silverH3701. And they offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH3068 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 continuallyH8548 allH3605 the daysH3117 of JehoiadaH3077. 15But JehoiadaH3077 waxed oldH1121 and was fullH3117 of daysH3117, and he diedH4191; an hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 oldH1121 was he when he diedH4191. 16And they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 among the kingsH4428, becauseH3588 he had doneH6213 goodH2896 in IsraelH3478, and towardH5973 GodH430 and his houseH1004. 17NowH8085 afterH310 the deathH4194 of JehoiadaH3077 cameH935 the princesH8269 of JudahH3063, and madeH8085 obeisance to the kingH4428. Then the kingH4428 hearkened unto them. 18And they forsook the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of their fathersH1, and servedH5647 the AsherimH842 and the idolsH6091: and wrathH7110 cameH1961 uponH5921 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 for this their guiltiness. 19Yet he sentH7971 prophetsH5030 to them, to bringH7725 them againH7725 unto the LORDH3068; and they testifiedH5749 againstH413 them: but they would notH3808 giveH238 earH238. 20And the spiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH3847 uponH5921 ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548; and he stoodH5975 aboveH5921 the peopleH5971, and saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith GodH430, WhyH4100 transgressH5674 ye the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068, that ye cannotH3808 prosperH6743? becauseH3588 ye have forsaken the LORDH3068, he hath also forsaken youH859. 21And they conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him, and stonedH7275 him with stonesH68 at the commandmentH4687 of the kingH4428 in the courtH2691 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 22ThusH4191 JoashH3101 the kingH4428 rememberedH2142 notH3808 the kindnessH2617 whichH834 JehoiadaH3077 his fatherH1 had doneH6213 to him, but slewH2026 his sonH1121. And when he diedH4191, he saidH559, The LORDH3068 lookH7200 uponH7200 it, and requireH1875 it. 23And it cameH935 to passH935 at the end of the yearH8141, that the armyH5971 of the Syrians cameH935 upH5927 againstH5921 him: and they cameH935 to JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and destroyedH7843 allH3605 the princesH8269 of the peopleH5971 from among the peopleH5971, and sentH7971 allH3605 the spoilH7998 of them unto the kingH4428 of DamascusH1834. 24For the armyH2428 of the Syrians cameH935 with a smallH4705 company of menH376; and the LORDH3068 deliveredH5414 a veryH3966 greatH3966 hostH2426 intoH935 their handH3027, becauseH3588 they had forsaken the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of their fathersH1. SoH6213 they executed judgmentH8201 uponH935 JoashH3101. 25And when they were departed from him, (for they leftH5800 him in greatH7227 diseases,) his own servantsH5650 conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him for the bloodH1818 of the sonsH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548, and slewH2026 him on his bedH4296, and he diedH4191: and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, but they buriedH6912 him notH3808 in the sepulchres of the kingsH4428. 26And theseH428 are they that conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him; ZabadH2066 the sonH1121 of ShimeathH8100 the AmmonitessH5985, and JehozabadH3075 the sonH1121 of ShimrithH8116 the MoabitessH4125. 27NowH2005 concerning his sonsH1121, and the greatnessH7230 of the burdens laid uponH5921 him, and the rebuilding of the houseH1004 of GodH430, beholdH2005, they are writtenH3789 in the commentary of the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428. And AmaziahH558 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478.
