2 Chronicles 13
American Standard Version
1In the eighteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 JeroboamH3379 began AbijahH29 to reignH4427 over JudahH3063. 2ThreeH7969 yearsH8141 reignedH4427 he in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was MicaiahH4322 the daughterH1323 of UrielH222 of GibeahH1390. And there was warH4421 between AbijahH29 and JeroboamH3379. 3And AbijahH29 joined battleH4421 with an armyH2428 of valiant menH376 of warH4421, even fourH702 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376: and JeroboamH3379 set the battleH4421 in array against him with eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376, who were mightyH1368 menH376 of valor. 4And AbijahH29 stoodH6965 up upon mount ZemaraimH6787, which is in the hill-country of EphraimH669, and saidH559, HearH8085 me, O JeroboamH3379 and all IsraelH3478: 5Ought ye not to knowH3045 that Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, gaveH5414 the kingdomH4467 over IsraelH3478 to DavidH1732 for everH5769, even to him and to his sonsH1121 by a covenantH1285 of saltH4417? 6Yet JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, the servantH5650 of SolomonH8010 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732, roseH6965 up, and rebelledH4775 against his lordH113. 7And there wereH1961 gatheredH6908 unto him worthlessH1100 menH376, base fellows, that strengthenedH2388 themselves against RehoboamH7346 the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010, when RehoboamH7346 wasH1961 youngH5288 and tender-hearted, and could not withstand them. 8And nowH6258 ye think to withstand the kingdomH4467 of Jehovah in the handH3027 of the sonsH1121 of DavidH1732; and ye are a greatH7227 multitudeH1995, and there are with you the golden calvesH5695 which JeroboamH3379 madeH6213 you for godsH430. 9Have ye not drivenH5080 out the priestsH3548 of Jehovah, the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, and the LevitesH3881, and madeH6213 you priestsH3548 after the manner of the peoplesH5971 of other landsH776? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a youngH1121 bullock and sevenH7651 ramsH352, the same may beH1961 a priestH3548 of them that are no godsH430. 10But as for us, Jehovah is our GodH430, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priestsH3548 ministering unto Jehovah, the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, and the LevitesH3881 in their workH4399: 11and they burn unto Jehovah every morningH1242 and every eveningH6153 burnt-offerings and sweet incenseH7004: the showbread also set they in order upon the pureH2889 tableH7979; and the candlestick of goldH2091 with the lampsH5216 thereof, to burn every eveningH6153: for we keepH8104 the chargeH4931 of Jehovah our GodH430; but ye have forsaken him. 12And, behold, GodH430 is with us at our headH7218, and his priestsH3548 with the trumpetsH2689 of alarmH8643 to soundH7321 an alarmH8643 against you. O children of IsraelH3478, fightH3898 ye not against Jehovah, the GodH430 of your fathersH1; for ye shall not prosperH6743.
13But JeroboamH3379 caused an ambushment to comeH935 about behind them: so they wereH1961 before JudahH3063, and the ambushment wasH1961 behind them. 14And when JudahH3063 looked backH268, behold, the battleH4421 was before and behind them; and they criedH6817 unto Jehovah, and the priestsH3548 sounded with the trumpetsH2689. 15Then the menH376 of JudahH3063 gaveH7321 a shoutH7321: and as the menH376 of JudahH3063 shoutedH7321, it came to pass, that GodH430 smote JeroboamH3379 and all IsraelH3478 before AbijahH29 and JudahH3063. 16And the children of IsraelH3478 fledH5127 before JudahH3063; and GodH430 delivered them into their handH3027. 17And AbijahH29 and his peopleH5971 slew them with a greatH7227 slaughterH4347: so there fellH5307 downH5221 slain of IsraelH3478 fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376. 18Thus the children of IsraelH3478 were brought under at that timeH6256, and the children of JudahH3063 prevailed, because they relied upon Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1. 19And AbijahH29 pursuedH7291 after JeroboamH3379, and tookH3920 citiesH5892 from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and JeshanahH3466 with the towns thereof, and EphronH6085 with the towns thereof. 20Neither did JeroboamH3379 recover strengthH3581 againH5750 in the daysH3117 of AbijahH29: and Jehovah smote him, and he diedH4191. 21But AbijahH29 waxed mighty, and tookH5375 unto himself fourteen wivesH802, and begat twentyH6242 and twoH8147 sonsH1121, and sixteen daughtersH1323. 22And the restH3499 of the acts of AbijahH29, and his waysH1870, and his sayings, are writtenH3789 in the commentary of the prophetH5030 IddoH5714.
