John 18:2-23
2NowG1161 JudasG2455 alsoG2532, who betrayedG3860 him, knew the placeG5117: for JesusG2424 oft-times resorted thither with his disciplesG3101. 3JudasG2455 then, having receivedG2983 the band of soldiers, and officersG5257 from the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the PhariseesG5330, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weaponsG3696. 4JesusG2424 thereforeG3767, knowing all the thingsG3956 that were comingG2064 upon him, wentG1831 forthG1831, and saith unto them, Whom seekG2212 ye? 5They answeredG611 him, JesusG2424 of NazarethG3480. JesusG2424 saith unto them, I amG1510 he. And JudasG2455 alsoG2532, who betrayedG3860 him, wasG1510 standingG2476 with them. 6WhenG5613 thereforeG3767 he saidG3004 unto them, I amG1510 he, they wentG565 backward, and fellG4098 to the groundG5476. 7AgainG3825 thereforeG3767 he askedG1905 them, Whom seekG2212 ye? And they saidG3004, JesusG2424 of NazarethG3480. 8JesusG2424 answeredG611, I toldG3004 you that I amG1510 he; if thereforeG3767 ye seekG2212 me, let these goG5217 their way: 9that the wordG3056 might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast givenG1325 me I lostG622 not oneG3762. 10SimonG4613 PeterG4074 thereforeG3767 having a swordG3162 drewG1670 it, and struck the highG749 priest’sG749 servantG1401, and cutG609 off his rightG1188 earG5621. NowG1161 the servant’s nameG3686 wasG1510 Malchus. 11JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 unto PeterG4074, PutG906 up the swordG3162 into the sheath: the cupG4221 which the FatherG3962 hath givenG1325 me, shall I not drinkG4095 it?
12So the band and the chief captain, and the officersG5257 of the JewsG2453, seized JesusG2424 and boundG1210 him, 13and ledG71 him to AnnasG452 firstG4413; for he wasG1510 father in law to CaiaphasG2533, who wasG1510 highG749 priestG749 that yearG1763. 14NowG1161 CaiaphasG2533 wasG1510 he that gave counsel to the JewsG2453, that it wasG1510 expedient that oneG1520 manG444 should dieG599 for the peopleG2992.
15And SimonG4613 PeterG4074 followedG190 JesusG2424, andso didanother discipleG3101. NowG1161 that discipleG3101 wasG1510 known unto the highG749 priestG749, and entered in with JesusG2424 into the courtG833 of the highG749 priestG749; 16but PeterG4074 was standingG2476 at the doorG2374 without. So the otherG243 discipleG3101, who was known unto the highG749 priestG749, wentG1831 out and spake unto her that kept the doorG2374, and broughtG1521 in PeterG4074. 17The maid thereforeG3767 that kept the door saith unto PeterG4074, Art thou alsoG2532 oneG3778 of this man’sG444 disciplesG3101? He saith, I amG1510 not. 18NowG1161 the servantsG1401 and the officersG5257 wereG1510 standingG2476 there, having madeG4160 a fireG439 of coals; for it wasG1510 coldG5592; and they wereG1510 warmingG2328 themselves: and PeterG4074 alsoG2532 wasG1510 with them, standingG2476 and warmingG2328 himself.
19The highG749 priestG749 thereforeG3767 askedG2065 JesusG2424 of his disciplesG3101, and of his teachingG1322. 20JesusG2424 answeredG611 him, I have spokenG2980 openlyG3954 to the worldG2889; I ever taughtG1321 in synagoguesG4864, and in the temple, whereG3699 all the JewsG2453 comeG4905 togetherG4905; and in secretG2927 spake I nothing. 21WhyG5101 askest thou me? askG2065 them that have heardG191 me, what I spake unto them: beholdG2396, these know the thingsG3778 which I saidG3004. 22And when he had saidG3004 this, oneG1520 of the officersG5257 standingG3936 by struck JesusG2424 with his hand, sayingG3004, Answerest thou the highG749 priestG749 soG3779? 23JesusG2424 answeredG611 him, If I have spokenG2980 evilG2556, bearG3140 witnessG3140 of the evilG2556: but if wellG2573, whyG5101 smitest thou me?
