Acts 5:21-41
21And when they heardG191 this, they enteredG1525 into the temple about daybreak, and taughtG1321. But the highG749 priestG749 cameG3854, and they that were with him, and calledG4779 the councilG4892 togetherG4779, and all the senate of the children of IsraelG2474, and sentG649 to the prison-house to have them broughtG71. 22But the officersG5257 that cameG3854 foundG2147 them not in the prisonG5438; and they returned, and toldG518, 23sayingG3004, The prison-house we foundG2147 shutG2808 in all safety, and the keepers standingG2476 at the doorsG2374: but when we had openedG455, we foundG2147 no man within. 24NowG1161 whenG5613 the captainG4755 of the temple and the chiefG749 priestsG749 heardG191 these wordsG3056, they were much perplexedG1280 concerningG4012 them whereunto this would grow. 25And there cameG3854 oneG5100 and toldG518 them, BeholdG2400, the menG435 whom ye putG5087 in the prisonG5438 areG1510 in the temple standingG2476 and teachingG1321 the peopleG2992. 26ThenG5119 wentG565 the captainG4755 with the officersG5257, and broughtG71 them, but without violenceG970; for they fearedG5399 the peopleG2992, lestG3361 they should be stonedG3034. 27And when they had broughtG71 them, they setG2476 them before the councilG4892. And the highG749 priestG749 askedG1905 them, 28sayingG3004, We strictly charged you not to teachG1321 in this nameG3686: and beholdG2400, ye have filledG4137 JerusalemG2419 with your teachingG1321, and intendG1014 to bring this man’sG444 bloodG129 upon us. 29But PeterG4074 and the apostlesG652 answeredG611 and saidG3004, We must obey GodG2316 ratherG3123 than menG444. 30The GodG2316 of our fathersG3962 raisedG1453 up JesusG2424, whom ye slew, hangingG2910 him on a treeG3586. 31Him did GodG2316 exaltG5312 with his rightG1188 handG1188 to be a Prince and a Saviour, to giveG1325 repentanceG3341 to IsraelG2474, and remission of sinsG266. 32And we areG1510 witnessesG3144 of these thingsG3778; and so isG1510 the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, whom GodG2316 hath givenG1325 to them that obey him.
33But they, when they heardG191 this, were cutG1282 to the heart, and were minded to slay them. 34But there stoodG450 up oneG5100 in the councilG4892, a PhariseeG5330, namedG3686 GamalielG1059, a doctor of the lawG3547, had in honor of all the peopleG2992, and commandedG2753 to put the menG444 forth a littleG1024 while. 35And he saidG3004 unto them, Ye menG444 of Israel, takeG4337 heed to yourselves as touching these menG444, what ye are about to do. 36For before these daysG2250 roseG450 up Theudas, giving himself out to beG1510 somebody; to whom a numberG706 of menG435, about fourG5071 hundredG5071, joined themselves: who wasG1510 slain; and all, as manyG3745 as obeyed him, wereG1510 dispersed, and cameG1096 to nought. 37After this manG3778 roseG450 up JudasG2455 of Galilee in the daysG2250 of the enrolment, and drew awayG868 some of the peopleG2992 after him: he alsoG2532 perishedG622; and all, as manyG3745 as obeyed him, were scatteredG1287 abroad. 38And nowG3568 I sayG3004 unto you, Refrain from these menG444, and let them aloneG863: for if this counselG1012 or this workG2041 beG1510 of menG444, it will beG1510 overthrown: 39but if it isG1510 of GodG2316, ye will not beG1510 ableG1410 to overthrow them; lest haply ye beG1510 foundG2147 evenG2532 to beG1510 fighting against GodG2316. 40And to him they agreed: and when they had calledG4341 the apostlesG652 unto them, they beatG1194 them and charged them not to speakG2980 in the nameG3686 of JesusG2424, and let them goG630. 41They thereforeG3767 departedG4198 from the presenceG4383 of the councilG4892, rejoicingG5463 that they were counted worthyG2661 to suffer dishonorG818 for the NameG3686.
