2IfεἴeiG1487anyoneτιςtisG5100thinksδοκεῖdokeiG1380that he knowsἐγνωκέναιegnōkenaiG1097anythingτι,tiG5100,he has not yetοὔπωoupōG3768knownἔγνωegnōG1097as he oughtδεῖdeiG1163to knowγνῶναι·gnōnaiG1097;

3but ifεἰeiG1487anyoneτιςtisG5100lovesἀγαπᾷagapaG25Godθεόν,theonG2316, heis knownἔγνωσταιegnōstaiG1097by Him.

4ThereforeοὖνounG3767,concerningΠερὶPeriG4012the eatingβρώσεωςbrōseōsG1035offoodG1494sacrificedG1494toG1494idolsG1494,we knowG3609that anidolεἴδωλονeidōlonG1497isnothingG3762atG3762allG3762in the worldκόσμῳkosmōG2889, and thatthere is noG3762GodθεὸςtheosG2316but oneεἷς.heisG1520.

5For evenG2532ifG1512there are so-calledλεγόμενοιlegomenoiG3004godsθεοὶtheoiG2316whetherεἴτεeiteG1535in heavenοὐρανῷouranōG3772orεἴτεeiteG1535on earthγῆς,gēsG1093,as indeedὥσπερhōsperG5618there are manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183godsθεοὶtheoiG2316and manyπολλοί·polloiG4183lordsκύριοιkurioiG2962,

6yetἀλλ᾽all᾽G235for us there is onlyoneεἷςheisG1520GodθεὸςtheosG2316,the FatherπατὴρpatērG3962,from whomοὗhouG3739are allG3956thingsG3956, and we exist for Him; andoneεἷςheisG1520LordκύριοςkuriosG2962,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424ChristΧριστὸςChristosG5547,by whomοὗhouG3739are allG3956thingsG3956, and we existthroughG1223Him.

7Howeverἀλλ᾽all᾽G235,not allG3956peopleG3956have thisG3588knowledgeγνῶσις·gnōsisG1108; butsomeτινὲςtinesG5100,being accustomedσυνηθείᾳsunētheiaG4914to the idolεἰδώλουeidōlouG1497untilἕωςhe'ōsG2193nowἄρτιartiG737,eatἐσθίουσιν,esthiousinG2068foodas ifὡςhōsG5613it were sacrificedG1494toG1494anG1494idolG1494;and their conscienceσυνείδησιςsuneidēsisG4893,beingοὖσαousaG1510weakἀσθενὴςasthenēsG772,is defiledμολύνεται.molunetaiG3435.

8NowδὲdeG1161foodβρῶμαbrōmaG1033will not bringG3936uscloseG3936to Godθεῷ·theōG2316;we areG5302neitherοὔτεouteG3777the worseG5302ifἐὰνeanG1437we do not eatG2068,norοὔτεouteG3777the betterπερισσεύομεν.¶perisseuomenG4052ifἐὰνeanG1437we do eatG2068.

9ButtakeG991careG991that thisαὕτηhautēG3778freedomἐξουσίαexousiaG1849of yoursὑμῶνhumōnG4771does not somehowπωςpōsG4458becomeγένηταιgenētaiG1096a stumblingπρόσκομμαproskommaG4348blockG4348to theweakἀσθενέσιν.asthenesinG772.

10For ifἐὰνeanG1437someoneτιςtisG5100seesG3708you, the one who hasἔχονταechontaG2192knowledgeγνῶσινgnōsinG1108,diningκατακείμενον,katakeimenonG2621in an idol’sG1493templeG1493,will his conscienceσυνείδησιςsuneidēsisG4893,if he is weakἀσθενοῦςasthenousG772,not be strengthenedοἰκοδομηθήσεταιoikodomēthēsetaiG3618to eatἐσθίειν;esthieinG2068thingsG1494sacrificedG1494toG1494idolsG1494?

11For throughἐνenG1722your knowledgeγνώσει,gnōseiG1108the one who is weakἀσθενῶνasthenōnG770is ruinedἀπόλλυταιapollutaiG622,the brotherἀδελφὸςadelphosG80or sisterfor whoseὃνhonG3739sakeδι᾽di᾽G1223ChristΧριστὸςChristosG5547diedἀπέθανεν.apethanenG599.

12And soοὕτωςhoutōsG3779,by sinningἁμαρτάνοντεςhamartanontesG264againstεἰςeisG1519the brothersἀδελφοὺςadelphousG80and sistersand woundingτύπτοντεςtuptontesG5180their conscienceσυνείδησινsuneidēsinG4893when it is weakἀσθενοῦσαν,asthenousanG770,you sinἁμαρτάνετε.hamartaneteG264againstεἰςeisG1519ChristΧριστὸνChristonG5547.
