Psalms 35
[A Psalm] of David.
1Strive, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me; fightH3898 against them that fightH3898 against me:2TakeH2388 holdH2388 of shieldH4043 and buckler, and standH6965 up for my helpH5833;3And draw out the spearH2595, and stop [the way] against my pursuersH7291: sayH559 unto my soulH5315, I am thy salvationH3444.4Let them be putH954 to shameH954 and confounded that seekH1245 after my lifeH5315; let them be turnedH5472 backwardH268 and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:5Let them beH1961 as chaffH4671 before the windH7307, and let the angelH4397 of Jehovah drive [them] away;6Let their wayH1870 beH1961 dark and slipperyH2519, and let the angelH4397 of Jehovah pursueH7291 them.7For without causeH2600 have they hiddenH2934 for me their netH7568 [in] a pitH7845; without causeH2600 they have digged [it] for my soulH5315.8Let destructionH7722 comeH935 upon him unawares, and let his netH7568 which he hath hiddenH2934 catchH3920 himself: for destructionH7722 let him fallH5307 therein.9And my soulH5315 shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoiceH1523 in his salvationH3444.10All my bonesH6106 shall sayH559, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflictedH6041 from one strongerH2389 than he, yea, the afflictedH6041 and the needyH34 from him that spoileth him!11Unrighteous witnessesH5707 riseH6965 up; they lay to my charge things which I knowH3045 not.12They rewardH7999 me evilH7451 for goodH2896, [to] the bereavement of my soulH5315.13But as for me, when they were sickH2470, my clothingH3830 was sackclothH8242; I chastened my soulH5315 with fastingH6685, and my prayerH8605 returnedH7725 into mine ownH5315 bosomH2436:14I behaved myself as though [he had been] a friendH7453, a brotherH251 to me; I bowedH7817 downH7817 in sadness, as one that mourneth [for] a motherH517.15But at my halting they rejoicedH8055, and gatheredH622 together: the slanderers gatheredH622 themselves together against me, and I knewH3045 [it] not; they did tearH7167 [me], and ceased not:16With profane jesters for bread, they have gnashedH2786 their teethH8127 against me.17LordH136, howH4100 long wilt thou lookH7200 on? Rescue my soulH5315 from their destructions, my onlyH3173 oneH7200 from the youngH3715 lionsH3715.18I will giveH3034 thee thanksH3034 in the greatH7227 congregation; I will praiseH1984 thee among muchH7227 peopleH5971.19Let not them that are wrongfully mine enemiesH341 rejoiceH8055 over me; let them not wink with the eyeH5869 that hateH8130 me without causeH2600.20For they speakH1696 not peaceH7965; and they devise deceitful wordsH1697 against the quiet in the landH776.21And they openedH7337 their mouthH6310 wideH7337 against me; they saidH559, AhaH1889! ahaH1889! our eyeH5869 hath seenH7200 [it].22Thou hast seenH7200 [it], Jehovah: keep not silence; O Lord, be not farH7368 from me.23StirH5782 up thyself, and awakeH5782 for my rightH4941, for my causeH7379, my 1GodH430 and LordH136!24JudgeH8199 me, Jehovah my 2GodH430, according to thy righteousnessH6664, and let them not rejoiceH8055 over me.25Let them not sayH559 in their heartH3820, AhaH1889! so would we have it. Let them not sayH559, We have swallowedH1104 him up.26Let them be ashamedH954 and broughtH1431 to confusion togetherH3162 that rejoice at mine adversity; let them be clothedH3847 with shameH954 and dishonour that magnifyH1431 themselves against me.27Let them exult and rejoiceH8055 that delightH2655 in my righteousnessH6664; and let them sayH559 continuallyH8548, Jehovah be magnifiedH1431, who delighteth in the prosperity of his servantH5650.28And my tongueH3956 shall talk of thy righteousnessH6664, [and] of thy praiseH8416, all the dayH3117.
