Psalms 35

Of David.

1ContendH7378 with my opponentsH3401, O LORDH3068 H854;fight against thoseH3898 H854 who fight against meH3898.2Take upH2388 Your shieldH4043 and bucklerH6793;arise and comeH6965 to my aidH5833.3DrawH7324 the spearH2595 and javelinH5462 1 againstH7122 my pursuersH7291;sayH559 to my soulH5315: “IH589 am your salvationH3444.”

4May those who seekH1245 my lifeH5315be disgracedH954 and put to shameH3637;may those who planH2803 to harm meH7451be driven backH5472 H268 and confoundedH2659.5May they beH1961 like chaffH4671 inH6440 the windH7307,as the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 drives them awayH1760.6May their pathH1870 beH1961 darkH2822 and slickH2519,as the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 pursuesH7291.7ForH3588 without causeH2600 they laidH2934 their netH7568 for me;without reasonH2600 they dugH2658 a pitH7845 for my soulH5315.8May ruinH7722 befall themH935 by surpriseH3808 H3045;may the netH7568 they hidH2934 ensnare themH3920;may they fallH5307 into the hazardH7722 they created.

9Then my soulH5315 will rejoiceH1523 in the LORDH3068and exultH7797 in His salvationH3444.10AllH3605 my bonesH6106 will exclaimH559,“WhoH4310 is like YouH3644, O LORDH3068,who deliversH5337 the afflictedH6041 fromH4480 the aggressorH2389,the poorH6041 and needyH34 from the robberH1497?”

11HostileH2555 witnessesH5707 come forwardH6965;they make chargesH7592 I knowH3045 nothing aboutH3808.12They repay meH7999 evilH7451 forH8478 goodH2896,to the bereavementH7908 of my soulH5315.13YetH589 when they were illH2470,I put onH3830 sackclothH8242;I humbledH6031 myselfH5315 with fastingH6685,but my prayersH8605 returnedH7725 unansweredH5921 H2436.214I paced aboutH1980as for my friendH7453 or brotherH251;I was bowed downH7817 with griefH6937,like one mourningH57 for his motherH517.15But when I stumbledH6761, they assembledH622 in gleeH8055;they gathered togetherH622 against meH5921.AssailantsH5222 I did notH3808 knowH3045slandered meH7167 withoutH3808 ceasingH1826.16Like godlessH2611 jestersH3934 at a feastH4580,3they gnashedH2786 their teethH8127 at meH5921.

17How longH4100, O LordH136, will You look onH7200?RescueH7725 my soulH5315 from their ravagesH7722,my precious lifeH3173 from these lionsH3715.18Then I will give You thanksH3034 in the greatH7227 assemblyH6951;I will praise YouH1984 among manyH6099 peopleH5971.19Let notH408 my enemiesH341 gloatH8055 over me without causeH8267,nor those who hate meH8130 without reasonH2600 wink in maliceH7169 H5869.420ForH3588 they do notH3808 speakH1696 peaceH7965,but they deviseH2803 deceitfulH4820 schemesH1697againstH5921 those who live quietlyH7282 in the landH776.21They gapeH6310 H7337 at meH5921 and sayH559,“AhaH1889, ahaH1889! Our eyesH5869 have seenH7200!”

22O LORDH3068, You have seen itH7200; be notH408 silentH2790.O LordH136, be notH408 farH7368 from meH4480.23AwakeH5782 and riseH6974 to my defenseH4941,to my causeH7379, my GodH430 and my LordH136!24Vindicate meH8199 by Your righteousnessH6664, O LORDH3068 my GodH430,and do not let themH408 gloatH8055 over me.25Let them notH408 sayH559 in their heartsH3820,“AhaH1889, just what we wantedH5315!”Let them notH408 sayH559,“We have swallowed him upH1104!”

26May those who gloatH8056 in my distressH7451be ashamedH954 and confoundedH2659 H3162;may those who exalt themselvesH1431 over meH5921be clothedH3847 in shameH1322 and reproachH3639.27May those who favorH2655 my vindicationH6664shout for joyH7442 and gladnessH8055;may they alwaysH8548 sayH559, “Exalted beH1431 the LORDH3068who delightsH2655 in His servant’sH5650 well-beingH7965.”

28Then my tongueH3956 will proclaimH1897 Your righteousnessH6664and Your praisesH8416 allH3605 day longH3117.
