Psalms 35
Prayer for Rescue from Enemies.
A Psalm of David.
1ContendH7378, LordH3068, with those who 1contendH3401 with me; FightH3898 againstH854 those who 2fightH3898 against me.2TakeH2388 holdH2388 of 34bucklerH4043 and shieldH6793 And riseH6965 upH6965 as 5my helpH5833.3DrawH7385 also the spearH2595 and 6the battle-axeH5462 to meetH7122 those who pursueH7291 me; SayH559 to my soulH5315, “I am 7your salvationH3444.”4Let those beH954 8ashamedH954 and dishonoredH3637 who seekH1245 my 9lifeH5315; Let those be 10turnedH5472 backH268 and humiliatedH3637 who deviseH2803 evilH7463 against me.5Let them be 11like chaffH4671 beforeH6440 the windH7307, With the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 drivingH1760 them onH1760.6Let their wayH1870 be darkH2822 and 12slipperyH2519, With the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 pursuingH7291 them.7For 13they 14hidH2934 their netH7568 for me withoutH2600 causeH2600; WithoutH2600 causeH2600 they dugH2658 a pitH7845 for my soulH5315.8Let 15destructionH7724 comeH935 upon him when he isH3045 unawareH3808H3045, And 16let the netH7568 whichH834 he hidH2934 catchH3920 him; Let him fallH5307 into that very 17destructionH7724.
9So my soulH5315 shall 18rejoiceH1523 in the LordH3068; It shall 19rejoiceH7797 in His salvationH3444.10AllH3605 my 20bonesH6106 will sayH559, “LordH3068, 21whoH4310 is likeH3644 You, Who rescuesH5337 the afflictedH6041 from one 22who is tooH4480 strongH2389 for him, And 23the afflictedH6041 and the poorH34 from one who robsH1497 him?”1124MaliciousH2555 witnessesH5707 riseH6965 upH6965; They askH7592 me things that I do not knowH3045.12They 25repayH7999 me evilH7463 for goodH2899, To the bereavementH7908 of my soulH5315.13But as for me, 26when they wereH2470 sickH2470, my 27clothingH3830 was sackclothH8242; I 28humbledH6031 my soulH5315 with fastingH6685, But my 29prayerH8605 kept returningH7725 to 30me.14I wentH1980 aboutH1980 as though it were my friendH7453 or brotherH251; I 31bowedH7817 downH7817 32inH7817 mourningH6937, like oneH57 whoH57 mournsH57 for a motherH517.15But 33at my 34stumblingH6761 they rejoicedH8055 and gatheredH622 themselves together; The 3536afflictedH5223 peopleH5223 whom I did not knowH3045 gatheredH622 together againstH5921 me, They 3738slanderedH7167 me withoutH3808 ceasingH1826.16Like godlessH2611 jestersH3934 at a feastH4580, They 39gnashedH2786 at me with their teethH8127.
17LordH136, 40howH4100 longH4100 will You lookH7200 on? RescueH7725 my soulH5315 41from their ravagesH7722, My 42onlyH3173 life from the lionsH3715.18I will 43giveH3034 You thanksH3034 in the greatH7227 congregationH6951; I will 44praiseH1984 You among a mightyH6099 peopleH5971.1945Do not let those who are wrongfullyH8267 46my enemiesH340 rejoiceH8055 over me; Nor let those 47who hateH8130 me forH2600 noH2600 reasonH2600 4849winkH7169 maliciouslyH7169H5869.20For they do not speakH1696 peaceH7965, But they deviseH2803 50deceitfulH4820 wordsH1697 againstH5921 thoseH7282 who are quietH7282 in the landH776.21They 51openedH7337 their mouthH6310 wideH7337 againstH5921 me; They saidH559, “52AhaH1889, ahaH1889! Our eyesH5869 have seenH7200 it!”
2253You have seenH7200 it, LordH3068, 54do not keepH2790 silentH2790; LordH136, 55do not beH7368 farH7368 from me.2356StirH5782 Yourself, and awakeH7019 to my rightH4941 And to my causeH7379, my GodH430 and my LordH136.2457JudgeH8199 me, LordH3068 my GodH430, according to Your righteousnessH6664, And 58do not let them rejoiceH8055 over me.25Do not let them sayH559 in their heartH3820, “59AhaH1889, our desireH5315!” Do not let them sayH559, “We have 60swallowedH1104 him upH1104!”26May 61those beH954 ashamedH954 and altogetherH3164 humiliatedH2659 who rejoiceH8056 at my distressH7463; May those who 62exaltH1431 themselves overH5921 me be 63clothedH3847 with shameH1322 and dishonorH3639.
27May those 64shoutH7442 forH7442 joyH7442 and rejoiceH8055, whoH2655 takeH2655 delightH2655 in 65my vindicationH6664; And 66may they sayH559 continuallyH8548, “The LordH3068 be exaltedH1431, WhoH2655 67delightsH2655 in the prosperityH7965 of His servantH5650.”28And 68my tongueH3956 shall proclaimH1897 Your righteousnessH6664 And Your praiseH8416 allH3605 dayH3117 long.
