Deuteronomy 21

1If one be foundH4672 slain in the landH127 which Jehovah thy GodH430 giveth thee to possessH3423 it, lying in the fieldH7704, and it be not knownH3045 who hath smitten him; 2then thy eldersH2205 and thy judgesH8199 shall comeH3318 forthH3318, and they shall measureH4058 unto the citiesH5892 which are roundH5439 about him that is slainH2491: 3and it shall beH1961, that the cityH5892 which is nearestH7138 unto the slainH2491 manH2205, even the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892 shall takeH3947 a heiferH5697 of the herdH1241, which hath not beenH1961 wrought with, and which hath not drawnH4900 in the yokeH5923; 4and the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892 shall bringH3381 down the heiferH5697 unto a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sownH2232, and shall breakH6202 the heifer’sH5697 neckH6202 there in the valley. 5And the priestsH3548 the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 shall come near; for them Jehovah thy GodH430 hath chosenH977 to minister unto him, and to blessH1288 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke beH1961. 6And all the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892, who are nearestH7138 unto the slainH2491 manH2205, shall washH7364 their handsH3027 over the heiferH5697 whose neckH6202 was brokenH6202 in the valley; 7and they shall answerH6030 and sayH559, Our handsH3027 have not shedH8210 this bloodH1818, neither have our eyesH5869 seenH7200 it. 8Forgive, O Jehovah, thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whom thou hast redeemedH6299, and suffer not innocentH5355 bloodH1818 to remain in the midstH7130 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. And the bloodH1818 shall be forgiven them. 9So shalt thou put away the innocentH5355 bloodH1818 from the midstH7130 of thee, when thou shalt do that which is rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah.

10When thou goest forthH3318 to battleH4421 against thine enemiesH341, and Jehovah thy GodH430 delivereth them into thy handsH3027, and thou carriest them away captiveH7617, 11and seest among the captivesH7633 a beautifulH3303 womanH802, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest takeH3947 her to thee to wifeH802; 12then thou shalt bringH935 her home to thy houseH1004; and she shall shaveH1548 her headH7218, and pare her nails; 13and she shall put the raiment of her captivityH7633 from off her, and shall remainH3427 in thy houseH1004, and bewail her fatherH1 and her motherH517 a full monthH3391: and after that thou shalt goH935 in unto her, and beH1961 her husbandH1167, and she shall beH1961 thy wifeH802. 14And it shall beH1961, if thou have no delightH2654 in her, then thou shalt let her goH7971 whither she will; but thou shalt not sellH4376 her at all for moneyH3701, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.

15If a manH376 have twoH8147 wivesH802, the oneH259 beloved, and the other hatedH8130, and they have borneH3205 him children, both the beloved and the hatedH8130; and if the first-born sonH1121 beH1961 hers that wasH1961 hatedH8130; 16then it shall beH1961, in the dayH3117 that he causeth his sonsH1121 to inheritH5157 that which he hath, that he may not make the sonH1121 of the beloved the first-born before the sonH1121 of the hatedH8130, who is the first-born: 17but he shall acknowledgeH5234 the first-born, the sonH1121 of the hatedH8130, by givingH5414 him a double portion of all that he hath; for he is the beginning of his strengthH202; the rightH4941 of the first-born is his.

18If a manH376 have a stubbornH5637 and rebelliousH4784 sonH1121, that will not obey the voiceH6963 of his fatherH1, or the voiceH6963 of his motherH517, and, though they chastenH3256 him, will not hearken unto them; 19then shall his fatherH1 and his motherH517 lay hold on him, and bringH3318 him out unto the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892, and unto the gateH8179 of his placeH4725; 20and they shall sayH559 unto the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892, This our sonH1121 is stubbornH5637 and rebelliousH4784, he will not obey our voiceH6963; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21And all the menH376 of his cityH5892 shall stoneH68 him to deathH4191 with stonesH68: so shalt thou putH4191 away the evilH7451 from the midstH7130 of thee; and all IsraelH3478 shall hearH8085, and fearH3372.

22And if a manH376 have committed a sinH2399 worthy of deathH4191, and he beH1961 putH4191 to deathH4191, and thou hangH8518 him on a treeH6086; 23his body shall not remainH3885 all night upon the treeH6086, but thou shalt surely buryH6912 him the same dayH3117; for he that is hangedH8518 is accursed of GodH430; that thou defileH2930 not thy landH127 which Jehovah thy GodH430 giveth thee for an inheritanceH5159.
