Matthew 23:2-33 2 saying λέγων· legōn G3004 , The scribes G1122 and the Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι· Pharisaioi G5330 have set themselves down ἐκάθισαν ekathisan G2523 in Moses' seat : 4 but bind burdens φορτία phortia G5413 heavy and hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders ὤμους ōmous G5606 of men G444 , but will not move κινῆσαι kinēsai G2795 them with their finger δακτύλῳ daktulō G1147 . 5 And all their works G2041 they do to be seen G2300 of men G444 : for they make G4160 broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders [ of their garments], 6 and love φιλοῦσιν philousin G5368 the chief place πρωτοκλισίαν prōtoklisian G4411 in feasts and the first seats πρωτοκαθεδρίας prōtokathedrias G4410 in the synagogues G4864 , 7 and salutations in the market-places, and to be called καλεῖσθαι kaleisthai G2564 of men G444 , Rabbi ῥαββί rhabbi G4461 , Rabbi G4461 . 12 And whoever shall exalt ὑψώσει hupsōsei G5312 himself shall be humbled G5013 , and whoever shall humble G5013 himself shall be exalted ὑψωθήσεται.¶ hupsōthēsetai G5312 . 13 But woe Οὐαὶ Ouai G3759 unto you , scribes G1122 and Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι Pharisaioi G5330 , hypocrites G5273 , for ye shut κλείετε kleiete G2808 up the kingdom βασιλείαν basileian G932 of the heavens οὐρανῶν ouranōn G3772 before men G444 ; for ye do not enter εἰσέρχεσθε eiserchesthe G1525 , nor do ye suffer those that are entering εἰσερχομένους eiserchomenous G1525 to go εἰσελθεῖν.¶ eiselthein G1525 in . 15 Woe Οὐαὶ Ouai G3759 to you , scribes G1122 and Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι Pharisaioi G5330 , hypocrites G5273 , for ye compass the sea θάλασσαν thalassan G2281 and the dry ξηρὰν xēran G3584 [ land ] to make ποιῆσαι poiēsai G4160 one ἕνα hena G1520 proselyte , and when ὅταν hotan G3752 he is become γένηται, genētai G1096 [such], ye make ποιεῖτε poieite G4160 him twofold more [ the ] son υἱὸν huion G5207 of hell γεέννης geennēs G1067 than yourselves . 18 And , Whosoever shall swear ὀμόσῃ omosē G3660 by the altar θυσιαστηρίῳ, thusiastēriō G2379 , it is G1510 nothing ; but whosoever shall swear ὀμόσῃ omosē G3660 by the gift δώρῳ dōrō G1435 that is G1510 upon it is G1510 a debtor. 19 [Fools and ] blind τυφλοί, tuphloi G5185 ones , for which is greater G3173 , the gift δῶρον dōron G1435 , or the altar θυσιαστήριον thusiastērion G2379 which sanctifies ἁγιάζον hagiazon G37 the gift δῶρον; dōron G1435 ? 20 He therefore οὖν oun G3767 that swears G3660 by the altar θυσιαστηρίῳ thusiastēriō G2379 swears G3660 by it and by all things πᾶσιν pasin G3956 that are upon it . 23 Woe Οὐαὶ Ouai G3759 to you , scribes G1122 and Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι Pharisaioi G5330 , hypocrites G5273 , for ye pay tithes of mint ἡδύοσμον hēduosmon G2238 and anise and cummin , and ye have left G863 aside the weightier G926 matters of the law νόμου, nomou G3551 , judgment G2920 and mercy ἔλεος eleos G1656 and faith G4102 : these ye ought G1163 to have done and not have left G863 those aside. 24 Blind τυφλοί, tuphloi G5185 guides G3595 , who strain out the gnat , but drink down the camel κάμηλον kamēlon G2574 . 25 Woe Οὐαὶ Ouai G3759 to you , scribes G1122 and Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι Pharisaioi G5330 , hypocrites G5273 , for ye make clean the outside ἔξωθεν exōthen G1855 of the cup ποτηρίου potēriou G4221 and of the dish , but within they are full γέμουσιν gemousin G1073 of rapine and intemperance. 26 Blind τυφλέ, tuphle G5185 Pharisee Φαρισαῖε Pharisaie G5330 , make clean καθαρόν.¶ katharon G2513 first πρῶτον prōton G4413 the inside of the cup ποτηρίου potēriou G4221 and of the dish , that their outside also καὶ kai G2532 may become γένηται genētai G1096 clean G2513 . 27 Woe Οὐαὶ Ouai G3759 to you , scribes G1122 and Pharisees Φαρισαῖοι Pharisaioi G5330 , hypocrites G5273 , for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear φαίνονται phainontai G5316 beautiful ὡραῖοι, hōraioi G5611 outwardly , but within are full γέμουσιν gemousin G1073 of dead νεκρῶν nekrōn G3498 men's bones and all uncleanness . 30 and ye say λέγετε· legete G3004 , If we had been G1510 in the days ἡμέραις hēmerais G2250 of our fathers πατέρων paterōn G3962 we would not have been G1510 partakers κοινωνοὶ koinōnoi G2844 with them in the blood αἵματι aimati G129 of the prophets προφητῶν, prophētōn G4396 . 32 and ye, fill πληρώσατε plērōsate G4137 ye up the measure μέτρον metron G3358 of your fathers πατέρων paterōn G3962 . 33 Serpents ὄφεις opheis G3789 , offspring γεννήματα gennēmata G1081 of vipers ἐχιδνῶν, echidnōn G2191 , how πῶς pōs G4459 should ye escape the judgment G2920 of hell γεέννης; geennēs G1067 ?
