Luke 23:1-25
1ThenG2532 theG3588 wholeG537 councilG4128G846 roseG450 and ledG71 Jesus awayG846 toG1909 PilateG4091. 2AndG1161 they beganG756 to accuseG2723 HimG846, sayingG3004, “We foundG2147 thisG3778 man subvertingG1294 ourG1473 nationG1484, forbiddingG2967 payment of taxesG5411G1325 to CaesarG2541, andG2532 proclaimingG3004 HimselfG1438 to beG1510 ChristG5547, a KingG935.”
3SoG1161 PilateG4091 askedG2065 HimG846, “AreG1510 YouG4771 theG3588 KingG935 of theG3588 JewsG2453?”
“YouG4771 have saidG3004 so,” Jesus repliedG611.
4ThenG1161 PilateG4091 saidG2036 toG4314 theG3588 chief priestsG749 andG2532 theG3588 crowdsG3793, “I findG2147 noG3762 basis for a chargeG159 againstG1722 thisG3778 manG444.”
5ButG1161 they kept insistingG2001G3004, “He stirs upG383 theG3588 peopleG2992 allG3650 overG2596 JudeaG2449 with His teachingG1321. He beganG756 inG575 GalileeG1056 and has come all the wayG2193 hereG5602.”
6WhenG1161 PilateG4091 heardG191 this, he askedG1905 ifG1487 theG3588 manG444 wasG1510 a GalileanG1057. 7AndG2532 learningG1921 thatG3754 Jesus wasG1510 underG1537 Herod’sG2264 jurisdictionG1849, he sent HimG375G846 toG4314 HerodG2264, who himselfG846G2532 wasG1510 inG1722 JerusalemG2414 atG1722 thatG3778 timeG2250.
8WhenG1161 HerodG2264 sawG3708 JesusG2424, he wasG1510 greatlyG3029 pleasedG5463. He had wantedG2309 to seeG3708 HimG846 forG1537 a longG2425 timeG5550, becauseG1223 he had heardG191 aboutG4012 HimG846 andG2532 was hopingG1679 to seeG3708 HimG846 performG1096 aG5100 miracleG4592. 9Herod questionedG1905 Jesus atG1722 greatG2425 length, butG1161 HeG846 gave no answerG611G846G3762.
10MeanwhileG1161, theG3588 chief priestsG749 andG2532 scribesG1122 stood thereG2476, vehementlyG2159 accusingG2723 HimG846. 11AndG1161 evenG2532 HerodG2264 andG4862 hisG846 soldiersG4753 ridiculedG1848G846 andG2532 mockedG1702 Him. Dressing Him inG4016 a fineG2986 robeG2066, they sent Him backG375G846 toG3588 PilateG4091.
12ThatG1722G3588G846 dayG2250 HerodG2264 andG2532 PilateG4091 becameG1096 friendsG5384; before thisG4391 time they had beenG1510 enemiesG1722G2189G4314G848.
13ThenG1161 PilateG4091 called togetherG4779 theG3588 chief priestsG749, theG3588 rulersG758, andG2532 theG3588 peopleG2992, 14and saidG2036 toG4314 themG846, “You broughtG4374 meG1473 thisG3778 manG444 asG5613 one who was incitingG654 theG3588 people to rebellionG2992. IG1473 have examinedG350 Him hereG2400 in your presenceG1799G4771 and foundG2147 Him notG3762 guiltyG159 ofG3739 your chargesG2723 againstG2596 HimG846. 15NeitherG3761 has HerodG2264, forG1063 he sent Him backG375G846 toG4314 usG1473. As you can seeG2400, HeG846 hasG1510 doneG4238 nothingG3762 deservingG514 of deathG2288. 16ThereforeG3767 I will punishG3811 HimG846 and releaseG630 Him.”1
18ButG1161 they all cried outG349 in unisonG3826G3004: “Away withG142 thisG3778 man! ReleaseG630 BarabbasG912 to usG1473!” 19(Barabbas had been imprisonedG906G1722G3588G5438 forG1223 anG5100 insurrectionG4714 inG1722 theG3588 cityG4172, andG2532 for murderG5408.)
WantingG2309 to releaseG630 JesusG2424, PilateG4091 addressedG4377 themG846 againG3825, 21butG1161 they kept shoutingG2019G3004, “CrucifyG4717 Him! CrucifyG4717 HimG846!”
A thirdG5154 time he saidG2036 toG4314 themG846, “WhatG5101 evilG2556 has thisG3778 man doneG4160? I have foundG2147 inG1722 HimG846 noG3762 offense worthyG159 of deathG2288. SoG3767 after I punishG3811 HimG846, I will releaseG630 Him.”
23ButG1161 they were insistentG1945, demandingG154 with loud voicesG5456G3173 forG846 Jesus to be crucifiedG4717. AndG2532 theirG846 clamorG54562 prevailedG2729. 24SoG2532 PilateG4091 sentencedG1948 that theirG846 demandG155 be metG1096. 25AsG1161 they had requestedG154, he releasedG630 theG3588 one imprisonedG906G1519G5438 forG1223 insurrectionG4714 andG2532 murderG5408, andG1161 he handedG3860 JesusG2424 over toG3588 theirG846 willG2307.
