Jeremiah 3
1They sayH559, If a manH376 put awayH7971 his wifeH802, and she goH1980 from him, and becomeH1961 another man’sH376, will he returnH7725 unto her againH5750? will not that landH776 beH1961 greatly pollutedH2610? But thou hast playedH2181 the harlot with manyH7227 lovers; yetH5750 returnH7725 againH5750 to me, saith Jehovah. 2LiftH5375 up thine eyesH5869 unto the bareH8205 heightsH8205, and seeH7200; whereH375 hast thou not been lain with? By the waysH1870 hast thou satH3427 for them, as an Arabian in the wildernessH4057; and thou hast pollutedH2610 the landH776 with thy whoredoms and with thy wickednessH7451. 3Therefore the showersH7241 have beenH1961 withholden, and there hath beenH1961 no latter rainH4456; yet thou hadst a harlot’s foreheadH4696, thou refusedst to beH1961 ashamedH3637. 4Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My FatherH1, thou art the guide of my youthH5271? 5Will he retain his anger for everH5769? will he keepH8104 it to the end? Behold, thou hast spokenH1696 and hast done evilH7451 things, and hast had thy way.
6Moreover Jehovah saidH559 unto me in the daysH3117 of JosiahH2977 the kingH4428, Hast thou seenH7200 that which backsliding IsraelH3478 hath done? she is goneH1980 up upon every highH1364 mountainH2022 and under every green treeH6086, and there hath playedH2181 the harlot. 7And I saidH559 after she had done all these thingsH428, She will returnH7725 unto me; but she returnedH7725 not: and her treacherousH901 sisterH269 JudahH3063 sawH7200 it. 8And I sawH7200, when, for this very cause that backsliding IsraelH3478 had committedH5003 adulteryH5003, I had putH5414 her awayH7971 and givenH5414 her a bill of divorcement, yet treacherousH898 JudahH3063 her sisterH269 fearedH3372 not; but she alsoH1571 went and playedH2181 the harlot. 9And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that the landH776 wasH1961 pollutedH2610, and she committedH5003 adulteryH5003 with stonesH68 and with stocks. 10And yet for all this her treacherousH901 sisterH269 JudahH3063 hath not returnedH7725 unto me with her whole heartH3820, but feignedly, saith Jehovah.
11And Jehovah saidH559 unto me, Backsliding IsraelH3478 hath showed herself more righteousH6663 than treacherousH898 JudahH3063. 12GoH1980, and proclaimH7121 these wordsH1697 toward the northH6828, and sayH559, ReturnH7725, thou backsliding IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah; I will not look in anger upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah, I will not keepH5201 anger for everH5769. 13OnlyH389 acknowledge thine iniquityH5771, that thou hast transgressedH6586 against Jehovah thy GodH430, and hast scatteredH6340 thy waysH1870 to the strangersH2114 under every green treeH6086, and ye have not obeyed my voiceH6963, saith Jehovah. 14ReturnH7725, O backsliding children, saith Jehovah; for I am a husbandH1166 unto you: and I will takeH3947 you oneH259 of a cityH5892, and twoH8147 of a familyH4940, and I will bringH935 you to ZionH6726. 15And I will giveH5414 you shepherdsH7462 according to my heartH3820, who shall feedH7462 you with knowledgeH1844 and understanding. 16And it shall come to pass, when ye are multipliedH7235 and increased in the landH776, in those daysH3117, saith Jehovah, they shall sayH559 no more, The arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they rememberH2142 it; neither shall they missH6485 it; neither shall it beH1961 madeH6213 any more. 17At that timeH6256 they shall callH7121 JerusalemH3389 the throneH3678 of Jehovah; and all the nationsH1471 shall be gathered unto it, to the nameH8034 of Jehovah, to JerusalemH3389: neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornnessH8307 of their evilH7451 heartH3820. 18In those daysH3117 the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 shall walk with the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and they shall comeH935 togetherH3162 out of the landH776 of the northH6828 to the landH776 that I gaveH5157 for an inheritanceH5157 unto your fathersH1.
19But I saidH559, HowH349 I will putH5414 thee among the children, and giveH5414 thee a pleasant landH776, a goodly heritage of the hostsH6635 of the nationsH1471! and I saidH559, Ye shall callH7121 me My FatherH1, and shall not turnH7725 awayH7725 from following me. 20Surely as a wifeH802 treacherouslyH898 departeth from her husband, soH3651 have ye dealtH898 treacherouslyH898 with me, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah. 21A voiceH6963 is heardH8085 upon the bareH8205 heightsH8205, the weepingH1065 and the supplicationsH8469 of the children of IsraelH3478; because they have perverted their wayH1870, they have forgottenH7911 Jehovah their GodH430. 22ReturnH7725, ye backsliding children, I will healH7495 your backslidings.
Behold, we are comeH857 unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our GodH430. 23TrulyH403 in vain is the help that is looked for from the hillsH1389, the tumultH1995 on the mountainsH2022: trulyH403 in Jehovah our GodH430 is the salvationH8668 of IsraelH3478. 24But the shamefulH1322 thingH1322 hath devouredH398 the labor of our fathersH1 from our youthH5271, their flocksH6629 and their herdsH1241, their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323. 25Let us lieH7901 down in our shameH1322, and let our confusion coverH3680 us; for we have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah our GodH430, we and our fathersH1, from our youthH5271 even unto this dayH3117; and we have not obeyed the voiceH6963 of Jehovah our GodH430.
