Jeremiah 29

1Now these are the wordsH1697 of the letterH5612 that JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 sentH7971 from JerusalemH3389 unto the residue of the eldersH2205 of the captivity, and to the priestsH3548, and to the prophetsH5030, and to all the peopleH5971, whom NebuchadnezzarH5019 had carried awayH7971 captive from JerusalemH3389 to BabylonH894, 2(after that JeconiahH3204 the kingH4428, and the queen-mother, and the eunuchsH5631, and the princesH8269 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and the craftsmenH2796, and the smithsH4525, were departed from JerusalemH3389), 3by the handH3027 of Elasah the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and GemariahH1587 the sonH1121 of HilkiahH2518, (whom ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 sentH7971 unto BabylonH894 to NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894), sayingH559, 4ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from JerusalemH3389 unto BabylonH894: 5BuildH1129 ye housesH1004, and dwellH3427 in them; and plantH5193 gardensH1593, and eatH398 the fruitH6529 of them. 6TakeH3947 ye wivesH802, and beget sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323; and takeH3947 wivesH802 for your sonsH1121, and giveH5414 your daughtersH1323 to husbandsH376, that they may bearH3205 sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323: and multiplyH7235 ye there, and be not diminishedH4591. 7And seekH1875 the peaceH7965 of the cityH5892 whither I have caused you to beH1961 carried away captive, and prayH6419 unto Jehovah for it; for in the peaceH7965 thereof shall ye have peaceH7965. 8For thusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Let not your prophetsH5030 that are in the midstH7130 of you, and your divinersH7080, deceiveH5377 you; neither hearken ye to your dreamsH2472 which ye cause to be dreamedH2492. 9For they prophesyH5012 falsely unto you in my nameH8034: I have not sentH7971 them, saith Jehovah. 10For thusH3541 saith Jehovah, After seventyH7657 yearsH8141 are accomplished for BabylonH894, I will visitH6485 you, and perform my goodH2896 wordH1697 toward you, in causing you to returnH7725 to this placeH4725. 11For I knowH3045 the thoughtsH4284 that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughtsH4284 of peaceH7965, and not of evilH7451, to giveH5414 you hopeH8615 in your latterH319 endH319. 12And ye shall callH7121 upon me, and ye shall goH1980 and prayH6419 unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And ye shall seekH1245 me, and findH4672 me, when ye shall searchH1245 for me with all your heartH3824. 14And I will be foundH4672 of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turnH7725 again your captivityH7622, and I will gatherH6908 you from all the nationsH1471, and from all the placesH4725 whither I have drivenH5080 you, saith Jehovah; and I will bringH7725 you again unto the placeH4725 whence I caused you to be carried awayH7725 captive.

15Because ye have saidH559, Jehovah hath raisedH6965 us up prophetsH5030 in BabylonH894; 16thusH3541 saith Jehovah concerningH413 the kingH4428 that sitteth upon the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, and concerningH413 all the peopleH5971 that dwellH3427 in this cityH5892, your brethren that are not goneH3318 forthH3318 with you into captivity; 17thusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Behold, I will sendH7971 upon them the swordH2719, the famineH7458, and the pestilenceH1698, and will makeH5414 them like vile figsH8384, that cannot be eatenH398, they are so bad. 18And I will pursueH7291 after them with the swordH2719, with the famineH7458, and with the pestilenceH1698, and will deliver them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776, to be an execration, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproachH2781, among all the nationsH1471 whither I have drivenH5080 them; 19because they have not hearkened to my wordsH1697, saith Jehovah, wherewith I sentH7971 unto them my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, risingH7925 up earlyH7925 and sendingH7971 them; but ye would not hearH8085, saith Jehovah. 20HearH8085 ye therefore the wordH1697 of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sentH7971 awayH7971 from JerusalemH3389 to BabylonH894.

21ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, concerningH413 AhabH256 the sonH1121 of KolaiahH6964, and concerningH413 ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of MaaseiahH4641, who prophesyH5012 a lieH8267 unto you in my nameH8034: Behold, I will deliver them into the handH3027 of Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894; and he shall slay them before your eyesH5869; 22and of them shall be takenH3947 up a curseH7045 by all the captives of JudahH3063 that are in BabylonH894, sayingH559, Jehovah makeH7760 thee like ZedekiahH6667 and like AhabH256, whom the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 roastedH7033 in the fireH784; 23because they have wrought follyH5039 in IsraelH3478, and have committed adulteryH5003 with their neighbors’H7453 wivesH802, and have spokenH1696 wordsH1697 in my nameH8034 falsely, which I commandedH6680 them not; and I am he that knoweth, and am witnessH5707, saith Jehovah.

24And concerningH413 ShemaiahH8098 the NehelamiteH5161 thou shalt speak, sayingH559, 25ThusH3541 speaketh Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, Because thou hast sentH7971 lettersH5612 in thine own nameH8034 unto all the peopleH5971 that are at JerusalemH3389, and to ZephaniahH6846 the sonH1121 of MaaseiahH4641, the priestH3548, and to all the priestsH3548, sayingH559, 26Jehovah hath madeH5414 thee priestH3548 in the stead of JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548, that there may beH1961 officersH6496 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, for every manH376 that is madH7696, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest putH5414 him in the stocksH4115 and in shackles. 27NowH6258 thereforeH6258, whyH4100 hast thou not rebukedH1605 JeremiahH3414 of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you, 28forasmuch as he hath sentH7971 unto us in BabylonH894, sayingH559, The captivity is longH752: buildH1129 ye housesH1004, and dwellH3427 in them; and plantH5193 gardensH1593, and eatH398 the fruitH6529 of them? 29And ZephaniahH6846 the priestH3548 readH7121 this letterH5612 in the earsH241 of JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030. 30Then came the wordH1697 of Jehovah unto JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, 31SendH7971 to all them of the captivity, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah concerning ShemaiahH8098 the NehelamiteH5161: Because that ShemaiahH8098 hath prophesiedH5012 unto you, and I sentH7971 him not, and he hath caused you to trustH982 in a lieH8267; 32thereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah, Behold, I will punishH6485 ShemaiahH8098 the NehelamiteH5161, and his seedH2233; he shall not have a manH376 to dwellH3427 among this peopleH5971, neither shall he behold the goodH2896 that I will do unto my peopleH5971, saith Jehovah, because he hath spokenH1696 rebellionH5627 against Jehovah.
