Jeremiah 8

1At that timeH6256, saith Jehovah, they shall bringH3318 out the bonesH6106 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, and the bonesH6106 of his princesH8269, and the bonesH6106 of the priestsH3548, and the bonesH6106 of the prophetsH5030, and the bonesH6106 of the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, out of their gravesH6913; 2and they shall spreadH7849 them before the sunH8121, and the moonH3394, and all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, which they have lovedH157, and which they have servedH5647, and after which they have walkedH1980, and which they have soughtH1875, and which they have worshipped: they shall not beH1961 gatheredH622, nor beH1961 buriedH6912, they shall beH1961 for dungH1828 upon the faceH6440 of the earthH127. 3And deathH4194 shall be chosenH977 rather than lifeH2416 by all the residue that remainH7604 of this evilH7451 familyH4940, that remainH7604 in all the placesH4725 whither I have drivenH5080 them, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635.

4Moreover thou shalt sayH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Shall men fallH5307, and not riseH6965 up again? Shall one turnH7725 awayH7725, and not returnH7725? 5WhyH4069 then is this peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 slidden backH7725 by a perpetual backsliding? they holdH2388 fast deceit, they refuseH3985 to returnH7725. 6I hearkened and heardH8085, but they spake not aright: no manH376 repenteth him of his wickednessH7451, sayingH559, What have I done? every oneH376 turneth to his courseH4794, as a horseH5483 that rusheth headlong in the battleH4421. 7Yea, the storkH2624 in the heavensH8064 knoweth her appointedH4150 timesH6256; and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the craneH5693 observeH8104 the timeH6256 of their comingH935; but my peopleH5971 knowH3045 not the law of Jehovah.

8HowH349 do ye sayH559, We are wiseH2450, and the lawH8451 of Jehovah is with us? But, behold, the false pen of the scribesH5608 hath wrought falsely. 9The wiseH2450 men are putH954 to shameH954, they are dismayedH2865 and takenH3920: lo, they have rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of Jehovah; and what mannerH1697 of wisdomH2451 is in them? 10ThereforeH3651 will I giveH5414 their wivesH802 unto othersH312, and their fieldsH7704 to them that shall possessH3423 them: for every one from the least even unto the greatestH1419 is givenH5414 to covetousness; from the prophetH5030 even unto the priestH3548 every one dealeth falsely. 11And they have healedH7495 the hurt of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 slightly, sayingH559, PeaceH7965, peaceH7965; when there is no peaceH7965. 12Were they ashamedH954 when they had committed abominationH8441? nay, they were not at all ashamedH954, neither could they blush: thereforeH3651 shall they fallH5307 among them that fallH5307; in the timeH6256 of their visitation they shall be castH5307 downH5307, saith Jehovah. 13I will utterly consume them, saith Jehovah: there shall be no grapes on the vineH1612, nor figsH8384 on the fig-tree, and the leafH5929 shall fade; and the things that I have givenH5414 them shall passH5674 away from them.

14WhyH4100 do we sitH3427 still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified citiesH5892, and let us be silent there; for Jehovah our GodH430 hath put us to silence, and givenH8248 us waterH4325 of gall to drinkH8248, because we have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah. 15We looked for peaceH7965, but no goodH2896 came; and for a timeH6256 of healingH4832, and, behold, dismay! 16The snorting of his horsesH5483 is heardH8085 from DanH1835: at the soundH6963 of the neighing of his strong onesH47 the whole landH776 trembleth; for they are comeH935, and have devouredH398 the landH776 and all that is in it; the cityH5892 and those that dwellH3427 therein. 17For, behold, I will sendH7971 serpents, adders, among you, which will not be charmedH3908; and they shall bite you, saith Jehovah.

18Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrowH3015! my heartH3820 is faintH1742 within me. 19Behold, the voiceH6963 of the cryH7775 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 from a landH776 that is very far off: is not Jehovah in ZionH6726? is not her KingH4428 in her? WhyH4069 have they provokedH3707 me to angerH3707 with their graven images, and with foreign vanitiesH1892? 20The harvestH7105 is past, the summerH7019 is endedH3615, and we are not savedH3467. 21For the hurt of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 am I hurt: I mournH6937; dismay hath takenH2388 holdH2388 on me. 22Is there no balmH6875 in GileadH1568? is there no physicianH7495 there? whyH4069 then is not the health of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 recovered?
