Jeremiah 37
1And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of JosiahH2977 reignedH4427 as kingH4428, instead of Coniah the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079, whom Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 made kingH4428 in the landH776 of JudahH3063. 2But neither he, nor his servantsH5650, nor the peopleH5971 of the landH776, did hearken unto the wordsH1697 of Jehovah, which he spake by the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414.
3And ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 sentH7971 Jehucal the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, and ZephaniahH6846 the sonH1121 of MaaseiahH4641, the priestH3548, to the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, PrayH6419 now unto Jehovah our GodH430 for us. 4Now JeremiahH3414 cameH935 in and wentH3318 out among the peopleH5971; for they had not putH5414 him into prison. 5And Pharaoh’s armyH2428 was comeH5927 forthH3318 out of EgyptH4714; and when the ChaldeansH3778 that were besieging JerusalemH3389 heardH8085 tidings of them, they brake up from JerusalemH3389.
6Then came the wordH1697 of Jehovah unto the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, 7ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ThusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, that sentH7971 you unto me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh’s armyH2428, which is comeH3318 forthH3318 to helpH5833 you, shall returnH7725 to EgyptH4714 into their own landH776. 8And the ChaldeansH3778 shall come again, and fightH3898 against this cityH5892; and they shall take it, and burnH8313 it with fireH784. 9ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, DeceiveH5377 not yourselves, sayingH559, The ChaldeansH3778 shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart. 10For though ye had smitten the whole armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 that fightH3898 against you, and there remainedH7604 but woundedH5221 menH376 among them, yet would they riseH6965 up every manH376 in his tentH168, and burnH8313 this cityH5892 with fireH784.
11And it came to pass that, when the armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 wasH1961 broken up from JerusalemH3389 for fear of Pharaoh’s armyH2428, 12then JeremiahH3414 wentH3318 forthH3318 out of JerusalemH3389 to goH3318 into the landH776 of BenjaminH1144, to receive his portion there, in the midstH8432 of the peopleH5971. 13And when he was in the gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144, a captain of the ward was there, whose nameH8034 was IrijahH3376, the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, the sonH1121 of HananiahH2608; and he laid hold on JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, sayingH559, Thou art fallingH5307 away to the ChaldeansH3778. 14Then saidH559 JeremiahH3414, It is false; I am not fallingH5307 away to the ChaldeansH3778. But he hearkened not to him; so IrijahH3376 laid hold on JeremiahH3414, and broughtH935 him to the princesH8269. 15And the princesH8269 were wroth with JeremiahH3414, and smote him, and putH5414 him in prison in the houseH1004 of JonathanH3083 the scribeH5608; for they had madeH6213 that the prison.
16When JeremiahH3414 was comeH935 into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and JeremiahH3414 had remainedH3427 there manyH7227 daysH3117; 17then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 sentH7971, and fetched him: and the kingH4428 askedH7592 him secretly in his houseH1004, and saidH559, Is there any wordH1697 from Jehovah? And JeremiahH3414 saidH559, There is. He saidH559 also, Thou shalt be delivered into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894. 18Moreover JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto kingH4428 ZedekiahH6667, Wherein have I sinnedH2398 against thee, or against thy servantsH5650, or against this peopleH5971, that ye have putH5414 me in prison? 19WhereH834 now are your prophetsH5030 that prophesiedH5012 unto you, sayingH559, The kingH4428 of BabylonH894 shall not comeH935 against you, nor against this landH776? 20And nowH6258 hearH8085, I pray thee, O my lordH113 the kingH4428: let my supplicationH8467, I pray thee, be presented before thee, that thou cause me not to returnH7725 to the houseH1004 of JonathanH3083 the scribeH5608, lest I dieH4191 there. 21Then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 commandedH6680, and they committed JeremiahH3414 into the courtH2691 of the guardH4307; and they gaveH5414 him daily a loafH3603 of breadH3899 out of the bakers’H644 streetH2351, until all the breadH3899 in the cityH5892 was spent. Thus JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427 in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307.
