Jeremiah 41

1Now it cameH935 to pass in the seventhH7637 monthH2320, that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, the sonH1121 of ElishamaH476, of the seedH2233 royal andoneH376 ofthe chief officers of the kingH4428, and tenH6235 menH376 with him, cameH935 unto GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296 to MizpahH4709; and there they did eatH398 breadH3899 togetherH3162 in MizpahH4709. 2Then aroseH6965 IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, and the tenH6235 menH376 that were with him, and smote GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227 with the swordH2719, and slew him, whom the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had made governor over the landH776. 3IshmaelH3458 also slew all the JewsH3064 that were with him, to wit, with GedaliahH1436, at MizpahH4709, and the ChaldeansH3778 that were foundH4672 there, the menH376 of warH4421.

4And it came to pass the secondH8145 dayH3117 after he had slain GedaliahH1436, and no manH376 knewH3045 it, 5that there cameH935 menH376 from ShechemH7927, from ShilohH7887, and from SamariaH8111, even fourscore menH376, having their beardsH2206 shaven and their clothesH899 rent, and having cut themselves, with meal-offerings and frankincenseH3828 in their handH3027, to bringH935 them to the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 6And IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 wentH1980 forthH3318 from MizpahH4709 to meetH6298 them, weepingH1058 all along as he wentH1980: and it cameH935 to pass, as he metH6298 them, he saidH559 unto them, ComeH935 to GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296. 7And it wasH1961 so, when they cameH935 into the midstH8432 of the cityH5892, that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 slew them, and cast them into the midstH8432 of the pitH953, he, and the menH376 that were with him. 8But tenH6235 menH376 were foundH4672 among them that saidH559 unto IshmaelH3458, Slay us not; for we have stores hidden in the fieldH7704, of wheatH2406, and of barleyH8184, and of oilH8081, and of honeyH1706. 11But whenH834 JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heardH8085 of all the evilH7451 that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 had done, 12then they tookH3947 all the menH376, and went to fightH3898 with IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, and foundH4672 him by the greatH7227 watersH4325 that are in GibeonH1391. 13Now it came to pass that, when all the peopleH5971 that were with IshmaelH3458 sawH7200 JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were gladH8055. 14So all the peopleH5971 that IshmaelH3458 had carried awayH7725 captiveH7617 from MizpahH4709 turnedH7725 about and came backH7725, and wentH7725 unto JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143. 15But IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 escapedH4422 from JohananH3110 with eightH8083 menH376, and went to the children of AmmonH5983. 16Then tookH3947 JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971 whom he had recovered from IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, from MizpahH4709, after that he had slain GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, to wit, the menH376 of warH4421, and the womenH802, and the children, and the eunuchsH5631, whom he had broughtH7725 backH7725 from GibeonH1391. 17And they departed, and dweltH3427 in Geruth Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to goH935 to enter into EgyptH4714, 18because of the ChaldeansH3778; for they were afraidH3372 of them, because IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 had slain GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, whom the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 made governor over the landH776.
