Jeremiah 48

1Of MoabH4124. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: WoeH1945 unto NeboH5015! for it is laid waste; KiriathaimH7156 is put to shame, it is takenH3920; Misgab is put to shame and broken down. 2The praiseH8416 of MoabH4124 is no more; in HeshbonH2809 they have devised evilH7451 against her: Come, and let us cutH3772 her off from being a nationH1471. Thou alsoH1571, O Madmen, shalt be brought to silence; the swordH2719 shall pursue thee. 3The soundH6963 of a cryH6818 from HoronaimH2773, desolation and greatH1419 destructionH7667! 4MoabH4124 is destroyed; her little onesH6810 have caused a cryH2201 to be heardH8085. 5For by the ascentH4608 of LuhithH3872 with continual weepingH1065 shall they goH5927 up; for at the descentH4174 of HoronaimH2773 they have heardH8085 the distressH6862 of the cryH6818 of destructionH7667. 6FleeH5127, saveH4422 your livesH5315, and beH1961 like the heath in the wildernessH4057. 7For, because thou hast trustedH982 in thy worksH4639 and in thy treasuresH214, thou alsoH1571 shalt be takenH3920: and ChemoshH3645 shall goH3318 forthH3318 into captivity, his priestsH3548 and his princesH8269 togetherH3162. 8And the destroyerH7703 shall comeH935 upon every cityH5892, and no cityH5892 shall escapeH4422; the valleyH6010 also shall perishH6, and the plainH4334 shall be destroyedH8045; as Jehovah hath spoken. 9GiveH5414 wings unto MoabH4124, that she may fly and get her away: and her citiesH5892 shall becomeH1961 a desolationH8047, without any to dwellH3427 therein. 10CursedH779 be he that doeth the workH4399 of Jehovah negligently; and cursedH779 be he that keepeth back his swordH2719 from bloodH1818.

11MoabH4124 hath been at easeH7599 from his youthH5271, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vesselH3627 to vesselH3627, neither hath he goneH1980 into captivity: thereforeH3651 his tasteH2940 remaineth in him, and his scent is not changed. 12ThereforeH3651, behold, the daysH3117 comeH935, saith Jehovah, that I will sendH7971 unto him them that pour off, and they shall pour him off; and they shall empty his vesselsH3627, and break their bottles in pieces. 13And MoabH4124 shall be ashamedH954 of ChemoshH3645, as the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 was ashamedH954 of Beth-el their confidenceH4009. 14HowH349 sayH559 ye, We are mightyH1368 menH376, and valiant menH376 for the warH4421? 15MoabH4124 is laid waste, and they are goneH5927 up into his citiesH5892, and his chosen youngH970 menH970 are goneH5927 downH3381 to the slaughterH2874, saith the KingH4428, whose nameH8034 is Jehovah of hostsH6635. 16The calamityH343 of MoabH4124 is near to comeH935, and his affliction hasteth fast. 17All ye that are roundH5439 about him, bemoan him, and all ye that knowH3045 his nameH8034; sayH559, HowH349 is the strong staffH4294 brokenH7665, the beautiful rodH4294! 18O thou daughterH1323 that dwellest in DibonH1769, comeH5927 down from thy gloryH3519, and sitH3427 in thirstH6772; for the destroyerH7703 of MoabH4124 is comeH5927 up against thee, he hath destroyedH7843 thy strongholdsH4013. 19O inhabitantH3427 of AroerH6177, standH5975 by the wayH1870, and watchH6822: askH7592 him that fleeth, and her that escapeth; sayH559, What hath beenH1961 done? 20MoabH4124 is put to shame; for it is broken down: wailH3213 and cryH2199; tellH5046 ye it by the ArnonH769, that MoabH4124 is laid waste. 21And judgmentH4941 is comeH935 upon the plainH4334 country, upon HolonH2473, and upon Jahzah, and upon MephaathH4158, 22and upon DibonH1769, and upon NeboH5015, and upon Beth-diblathaim, 23and upon KiriathaimH7156, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon, 24and upon KeriothH7152, and upon BozrahH1224, and upon all the citiesH5892 of the landH776 of MoabH4124, farH7350 or near. 25The hornH7161 of MoabH4124 is cutH1438 off, and his armH2220 is brokenH7665, saith Jehovah.

26MakeH1431 ye him drunken; for he magnifiedH1431 himself against Jehovah: and MoabH4124 shall wallow in his vomitH6892, and he alsoH1571 shall beH1961 in derision. 27For wasH1961 not IsraelH3478 a derision unto thee? wasH1961 he foundH4672 among thievesH1590? for as oftenH1767 as thou speakest of him, thou waggest the head. 28O ye inhabitantsH3427 of MoabH4124, leaveH5800 the citiesH5892, and dwellH3427 in the rockH5553; and beH1961 like the doveH3123 that maketh her nest over the mouthH6310 of the abyss. 29We have heardH8085 of the prideH1346 of MoabH4124, that he is veryH3966 proudH1343; his loftiness, and his prideH1346, and his arrogancy, and the haughtinessH7312 of his heartH3820. 30I knowH3045 his wrathH5678, saith Jehovah, that it is nought; his boastings have wrought nothing. 31ThereforeH3651 will I wailH3213 for MoabH4124; yea, I will cryH2199 out for all MoabH4124: for the menH376 of Kir-heres shall they mourn. 32With more than the weepingH1065 of JazerH3270 will I weepH1058 for thee, O vineH1612 of SibmahH7643: thy branches passedH5674 over the seaH3220, they reachedH5060 even to the seaH3220 of JazerH3270: upon thy summerH7019 fruits and upon thy vintage the destroyerH7703 is fallenH5307. 33And gladnessH8057 and joyH8057 is taken away from the fruitful field and from the landH776 of MoabH4124; and I have caused wineH3196 to ceaseH7673 from the winepressesH3342: none shall treadH1869 with shoutingH1959; the shoutingH1959 shall be no shoutingH1959. 34From the cryH2201 of HeshbonH2809 even unto ElealehH500, even unto JahazH3096 have they uttered their voiceH6963, from ZoarH6820 even unto HoronaimH2773, to Eglath-shelishiyah: for the watersH4325 of NimrimH5249 alsoH1571 shall becomeH1961 desolate. 35Moreover I will cause to ceaseH7673 in MoabH4124, saith Jehovah, him that offereth in the highH1116 placeH1116, and him that burneth incenseH6999 to his godsH430.

36ThereforeH3651 my heartH3820 soundeth for MoabH4124 like pipes, and my heartH3820 soundeth like pipes for the menH376 of Kir-heres: thereforeH3651 the abundance that he hath gotten is perishedH6. 37For every headH7218 is bald, and every beardH2206 clipped: upon all the handsH3027 are cuttings, and upon the loinsH4975 sackclothH8242. 38On all the housetops of MoabH4124 and in the streets thereof there is lamentation every where; for I have brokenH7665 MoabH4124 like a vesselH3627 wherein none delighteth, saith Jehovah. 39HowH349 is it broken down! howH349 do they wailH3213! howH349 hath MoabH4124 turnedH6437 the backH6437 with shameH954! so shall MoabH4124 becomeH1961 a derision and a terrorH4288 to all that areH1961 roundH5439 about him. 40For thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, he shall fly as an eagleH5404, and shall spreadH6566 out his wingsH3671 against MoabH4124. 41KeriothH7152 is takenH3920, and the strongholdsH4679 are seizedH8610, and the heartH3820 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 of MoabH4124 at that dayH3117 shall beH1961 as the heartH3820 of a womanH802 in her pangs. 42And MoabH4124 shall be destroyedH8045 from being a peopleH5971, because he hath magnifiedH1431 himself against Jehovah. 43FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341, are upon thee, O inhabitantH3427 of MoabH4124, saith Jehovah. 44He that fleeth from the fearH6343 shall fallH5307 into the pitH6354; and he that getteth up out of the pitH6354 shall be takenH3920 in the snareH6341: for I will bringH935 upon him, even upon MoabH4124, the yearH8141 of their visitation, saith Jehovah.

45They that fledH5127 standH5975 without strengthH3581 under the shadowH6738 of HeshbonH2809; for a fireH784 is goneH3318 forthH3318 out of HeshbonH2809, and a flameH3852 from the midst of SihonH5511, and hath devouredH398 the cornerH6285 of MoabH4124, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones. 46WoeH188 unto thee, O MoabH4124! the peopleH5971 of ChemoshH3645 is undone; for thy sonsH1121 are takenH3947 awayH3947 captive, and thy daughtersH1323 into captivityH7633. 47Yet will I bringH7725 backH7725 the captivityH7622 of MoabH4124 in the latterH319 daysH3117, saith Jehovah. Thus far is the judgmentH4941 of MoabH4124.
