Jeremiah 42
1Then all the captains of the forces, and JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and Jezaniah the sonH1121 of HoshaiahH1955, and all the peopleH5971 from the least even unto the greatestH1419, came near, 2and saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, Let, we prayH6419 thee, our supplicationH8467 be presented before thee, and prayH6419 for us unto Jehovah thy GodH430, even for all this remnantH7611 (for we are leftH7604 but a fewH4592 of manyH7235, as thine eyesH5869 do behold us), 3that Jehovah thy GodH430 may show us the wayH1870 wherein we should walk, and the thingH1697 that we should do. 4Then JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 saidH559 unto them, I have heardH8085 you; behold, I will prayH6419 unto Jehovah your GodH430 according to your wordsH1697; and it shall come to pass that whatsoever thingH1697 Jehovah shall answerH6030 you, I will declareH5046 it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. 5Then they saidH559 to JeremiahH3414, Jehovah beH1961 a true and faithfulH539 witnessH5707 amongst us, if we do not according to all the wordH1697 wherewith Jehovah thy GodH430 shall sendH7971 thee to us. 6Whether it be goodH2896, or whether it be evilH7451, we will obey the voiceH6963 of Jehovah our GodH430, to whom we sendH7971 thee; that it may be wellH3190 with us, when we obey the voiceH6963 of Jehovah our GodH430.
7And it came to pass after tenH6235 daysH3117, that the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto JeremiahH3414. 8Then calledH7121 he JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the peopleH5971 from the least even to the greatestH1419, 9and saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, unto whom ye sentH7971 me to present your supplicationH8467 before him: 10If ye will still abide in this landH776, then will I buildH1129 you, and not pull you downH3427, and I will plantH5193 you, and not pluckH5428 you up; for I repent me of the evilH7451 that I have done unto you. 11Be not afraidH3372 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, of whom ye are afraidH3372; be not afraidH3372 of him, saith Jehovah: for I am with you to saveH3467 you, and to deliverH5337 you from his handH3027. 12And I will grant you mercyH7355, that he may have mercyH7355 upon you, and cause you to returnH7725 to your own landH127. 13But if ye sayH559, We will not dwellH3427 in this landH776; so that ye obey not the voiceH6963 of Jehovah your GodH430, 14sayingH559, No; but we will goH935 into the landH776 of EgyptH4714, whereH834 we shall seeH7200 no warH4421, nor hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, nor have hungerH7456 of breadH3899; and there will we dwellH3427: 15nowH6258 thereforeH3651 hearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of Jehovah, O remnantH7611 of JudahH3063: ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, If ye indeed setH7760 your facesH6440 to enter into EgyptH4714, and goH935 to sojourn there; 16then it shall come to pass, that the swordH2719, which ye fearH3372, shall overtakeH5381 you there in the landH776 of EgyptH4714; and the famineH7458, whereof ye are afraidH3372, shall follow hard after you there in EgyptH4714; and there ye shall dieH4191. 17So shall it beH1961 with all the menH376 that setH7760 their facesH6440 to goH935 into EgyptH4714 to sojourn there: they shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698; and none of them shall remain or escapeH6412 from the evilH7451 that I will bringH935 upon them.
18For thusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: As mine angerH639 and my wrathH2534 hath beenH1961 pouredH5413 forth upon the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, soH3651 shall my wrathH2534 beH1961 pouredH5413 forth upon you, when ye shall enter into EgyptH4714; and ye shall beH1961 an execration, and an astonishment, and a curseH7045, and a reproachH2781; and ye shall seeH7200 this placeH4725 no more. 19Jehovah hath spokenH1696 concerning you, O remnantH7611 of JudahH3063, GoH935 ye not into EgyptH4714: knowH3045 certainly that I have testifiedH5749 unto you this dayH3117. 20For ye have dealt deceitfully against your ownH5315 soulsH5315; for ye sentH7971 me unto Jehovah your GodH430, sayingH559, PrayH6419 for us unto Jehovah our GodH430; and according unto all that Jehovah our GodH430 shall sayH559, soH3651 declareH5046 unto us, and we will do it. 21And I have this dayH3117 declaredH5046 it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voiceH6963 of Jehovah your GodH430 in anything for which he hath sentH7971 me unto you. 22NowH6258 thereforeH6258 knowH3045 certainly that ye shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698, in the placeH4725 whither ye desireH2654 to goH935 to sojourn there.
