Jeremiah 20
1Now PashhurH6583, the sonH1121 of ImmerH564 the priestH3548, who was chiefH5057 officerH5057 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, heardH8085 JeremiahH3414 prophesyingH5012 these thingsH1697. 2Then PashhurH6583 smote JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, and putH5414 him in the stocksH4115 that were in the upperH5945 gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144, which was in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 3And it came to pass on the morrow, that PashhurH6583 broughtH3318 forthH3318 JeremiahH3414 out of the stocksH4115. Then saidH559 JeremiahH3414 unto him, Jehovah hath not calledH7121 thy nameH8034 PashhurH6583, but Magor-missabib. 4For thusH3541 saith Jehovah, Behold, I will makeH5414 thee a terrorH4032 to thyself, and to all thy friendsH157; and they shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719 of their enemiesH341, and thine eyesH5869 shall behold it; and I will giveH5414 all JudahH3063 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall carry them captive to BabylonH894, and shall slay them with the swordH2719. 5Moreover I will giveH5414 all the riches of this cityH5892, and all the gains thereof, and all the preciousH3366 things thereof, yea, all the treasuresH214 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 will I giveH5414 into the handH3027 of their enemiesH341; and they shall makeH5414 them a prey, and takeH3947 them, and carry them to BabylonH894. 6And thou, PashhurH6583, and all that dwellH3427 in thy houseH1004 shall goH935 into captivityH7628; and thou shalt comeH935 to BabylonH894, and there thou shalt dieH4191, and there shalt thou be buriedH6912, thou, and all thy friendsH157, to whom thou hast prophesiedH5012 falsely.
7O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I wasH1961 persuaded; thou art strongerH2388 than I, and hast prevailedH3201: I amH1961 becomeH1961 a laughing-stock all the dayH3117, every one mocketh me. 8For as oftenH1767 as I speakH1696, I cryH2199 out; I cryH2199, ViolenceH2555 and destructionH7701! because the wordH1697 of Jehovah is made a reproachH2781 unto me, and a derisionH7047, all the dayH3117. 9And if I sayH559, I will not makeH2142 mention of him, nor speakH1696 any more in his nameH8034, then there is in my heartH3820 as it wereH1961 a burning fireH784 shutH6113 up in my bonesH6106, and I amH1961 wearyH3811 with forbearing, and I cannot containH3557. 10For I have heardH8085 the defaming of manyH7227, terrorH4032 on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, they that watchH8104 for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevailH3201 against him, and we shall takeH3947 our revenge on him. 11But Jehovah is with me as a mightyH1368 one and a terrible: thereforeH3651 my persecutors shall stumbleH3782, and they shall not prevailH3201; they shall be utterly putH954 to shameH954, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgottenH7911. 12But, O Jehovah of hostsH6635, that triest the righteousH6662, that seest the heartH3820 and the mind, let me seeH7200 thy vengeanceH5360 on them; for unto thee have I revealedH1540 my causeH7379. 13SingH7891 unto Jehovah, praiseH1984 ye Jehovah; for he hath deliveredH5337 the soulH5315 of the needyH34 from the handH3027 of evil-doers.
14CursedH779 beH1961 the dayH3117 wherein I wasH1961 bornH3205: let not the dayH3117 wherein my motherH517 bare me beH1961 blessedH1288. 15CursedH779 be the manH376 who broughtH3205 tidings to my fatherH1, sayingH559, A man-child is bornH3205 unto thee; making him very gladH8055. 16And let that manH376 beH1961 as the citiesH5892 which Jehovah overthrewH2015, and repentedH5162 not: and let him hearH8085 a cryH2201 in the morningH1242, and shoutingH8643 at noontime; 17because he slew me not from the wombH7358; and so my motherH517 would have beenH1961 my graveH6913, and her wombH7358 always great. 18Wherefore cameH3318 I forthH3318 out of the wombH7358 to seeH7200 laborH5999 and sorrowH3015, that my daysH3117 should be consumed with shameH1322?
