2and He HimselfαὐτὸςautosG846is thepropitiationἱλασμόςhilasmosG2434for our sinsἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnG266;and not for oursG2251onlyG3440,but alsoG2532for the sins ofthe wholeὅλουholouG3650worldκόσμου.kosmouG2889.

3By thisτούτῳtoutōG3778we knowγινώσκομενginōskomenG1097that we have come toknowἐγνώκαμενegnōkamenG1097Him, ifἐὰνeanG1437wekeepτηρῶμεν.¶tērōmenG5083His commandmentsἐντολὰςentolasG1785.

4The one who saysλέγωνlegōnG3004, “I have come toknowἔγνωκαegnōkaG1097Him,” and does not keepτηρῶν,tērōnG5083His commandmentsἐντολὰςentolasG1785, is aliarψεύστηςpseustēsG5583, andthe truthἀλήθειαalētheiaG225is not in him;

5but whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739 G302followsτηρῇtērēaG5083His wordλόγον,logonG3056, in him theloveἀγάπηagapēG26of GodθεοῦtheouG2316has trulyἀληθῶςalēthōsG230been perfectedτετελείωται.teteleiōtaiG5048.By thisG3778we knowγινώσκομενginōskomenG1097that we are in Him:

9The one who saysλέγωνlegōnG3004that he is in the LightφωτὶphōtiG5457and yethatesμισῶνmisōnG3404hisbrotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80or sisteris in the darknessσκοτίᾳskotiaG4653untilἕωςhe'ōsG2193nowἄρτι.artiG737.

10The one who lovesἀγαπῶνagapōnG25his brotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80and sisterremainsμένειmeneiG3306in the LightφωτὶphōtiG5457,and there is nothingοὐκoukG3756in him to causeG4625stumblingG4625.

11But the one whohatesμισῶνmisōnG3404his brotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80or sisteris in the darknessσκοτίᾳskotiaG4653andwalksπεριπατεῖperipateiG4043in the darknessσκοτίᾳskotiaG4653,and does not knowG3609whereποῦpouG4226he is goingὑπάγει,hupageiG5217becauseὅτιhotiG3754the darknessσκοτίαskotiaG4653hasblindedἐτύφλωσενetuphlōsenG5186his eyesὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmousG3788.

15Do not loveἀγαπᾶτεagapateG25the worldκόσμονkosmonG2889norμηδὲmēdeG3366the things in the worldκόσμῳ.kosmōG2889.IfἐάνeanG1437anyoneτιςtisG5100lovesἀγαπᾷagapaG25the worldκόσμον,kosmonG2889,the loveἀγάπηagapēG26of the FatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962is not in him.

16For allπᾶνpanG3956that is in the worldκόσμῳ,kosmōG2889,the lustἐπιθυμίαepithumiaG1939of the fleshσαρκὸςsarkosG4561andthe lustἐπιθυμίαepithumiaG1939of the eyesὀφθαλμῶνophthalmōnG3788andthe boastfulG212prideG212of lifeβίου,biouG979,is not from the FatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962,but is from the worldκόσμουkosmouG2889.

17The worldκόσμοςkosmosG2889is passingG3855awayπαράγεταιparagetaiG3855and alsoits lustsἐπιθυμίαepithumiaG1939; but the one whodoesποιῶνpoiōnG4160the willθέλημαthelēmaG2307of GodθεοῦtheouG2316continuesμένειmeneiG3306to liveforeverαἰῶνα.¶aiōnaG165.
