2 Chronicles 20
American Standard Version
1And it cameH935 to pass after this, that the children of MoabH4124, and the children of AmmonH5983, and with them some of the AmmonitesH5984, cameH935 against JehoshaphatH3092 to battleH4421. 2Then there cameH935 some that toldH5046 JehoshaphatH3092, sayingH559, There cometh a greatH7227 multitudeH1995 against thee from beyond the seaH3220 from Syria; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamarH2688 (the same is En-gedi). 3And JehoshaphatH3092 fearedH3372, and setH5414 himself to seekH1875 unto Jehovah; and he proclaimedH7121 a fastH6685 throughout all JudahH3063. 4And JudahH3063 gatheredH6908 themselves togetherH6908, to seekH1245 help of Jehovah: even out of all the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 they cameH935 to seekH1245 Jehovah.
5And JehoshaphatH3092 stoodH5975 in the assemblyH6951 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, before the newH2319 courtH2691; 6and he saidH559, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of our fathersH1, art not thou GodH430 in heavenH8064? and art not thou rulerH4910 over all the kingdomsH4467 of the nationsH1471? and in thy handH3027 is power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee. 7Didst not thou, O our GodH430, drive out the inhabitantsH3427 of this landH776 before thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and giveH5414 it to the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85 thy friendH157 for everH5769? 8And they dweltH3427 therein, and have builtH1129 thee a sanctuaryH4720 therein for thy nameH8034, sayingH559, 9If evilH7451 comeH935 upon us, the swordH2719, judgment, or pestilenceH1698, or famineH7458, we will standH5975 before this houseH1004, and before thee (for thy nameH8034 is in this houseH1004), and cryH2199 unto thee in our affliction, and thou wilt hearH8085 and saveH3467. 10And nowH6258, behold, the children of AmmonH5983 and MoabH4124 and mount SeirH8165, whom thou wouldest not let IsraelH3478 invade, when they cameH935 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, but they turnedH5493 asideH5493 from them, and destroyedH8045 them not; 11behold, how they reward us, to comeH935 to cast us out of thy possessionH3423, which thou hast given us to inheritH3423. 12O our GodH430, wilt thou not judgeH8199 them? for we have no might against this greatH7227 company that cometh against us; neither knowH3045 we what to do: but our eyesH5869 are upon thee. 13And all JudahH3063 stoodH5975 before Jehovah, with their littleH2945 onesH2945, their wivesH802, and their children.
14Then upon JahazielH3166 the sonH1121 of ZechariahH2148, the sonH1121 of BenaiahH1141, the sonH1121 of JeielH3273, the sonH1121 of MattaniahH4983, the LeviteH3881, of the sonsH1121 of AsaphH623, came the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah in the midstH8432 of the assemblyH6951; 15and he saidH559, Hearken ye, all JudahH3063, and ye inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and thou kingH4428 JehoshaphatH3092: ThusH3541 saith Jehovah unto you, FearH3372 not ye, neither be dismayedH2865 by reason of this greatH7227 multitudeH1995; for the battleH4421 is not yours, but God’s. 16To-morrow goH5927 ye downH3381 against them: behold, they comeH5927 up by the ascentH4608 of Ziz; and ye shall findH4672 them at the endH5490 of the valley, before the wildernessH4057 of Jeruel. 17Ye shall not need to fightH3898 in this battleH3898: setH5975 yourselves, standH5975 ye stillH5975, and seeH7200 the salvationH3444 of Jehovah with you, O JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389; fearH3372 not, nor be dismayedH2865: to-morrow goH3318 out against them; for Jehovah is with you. 18And JehoshaphatH3092 bowedH7812 his head with his faceH6440 to the groundH776; and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 fellH5307 downH7812 before Jehovah, worshipping Jehovah. 19And the LevitesH3881, of the children of the KohathitesH6956 and of the children of the KorahitesH7145, stoodH6965 up to praiseH1984 Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, with an exceeding loud voiceH6963.
20And they roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and wentH3318 forthH3318 into the wildernessH4057 of TekoaH8620: and as they wentH3318 forthH3318, JehoshaphatH3092 stoodH5975 and saidH559, HearH8085 me, O JudahH3063, and ye inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389: believeH539 in Jehovah your GodH430, so shall ye be establishedH539; believeH539 his prophetsH5030, so shall ye prosperH6743. 21And when he had taken counselH3289 with the peopleH5971, he appointedH5975 them that should singH7891 unto Jehovah, and giveH3034 praiseH1984 in holyH6944 array, as they wentH3318 out before the army, and sayH559, GiveH3034 thanksH3034 unto Jehovah; for his lovingkindness endureth for everH5769. 22And when they beganH2490 to sing and to praiseH8416, Jehovah setH5414 liers-in-wait against the children of AmmonH5983, MoabH4124, and mount SeirH8165, that were comeH935 against JudahH3063; and they were smitten. 23For the children of AmmonH5983 and MoabH4124 stoodH5975 up against the inhabitantsH3427 of mount SeirH8165, utterly to slay and destroyH8045 them: and when they had made an endH3615 of the inhabitantsH3427 of SeirH8165, every oneH376 helpedH5826 to destroyH8045 another.
24And when JudahH3063 cameH935 to the watch-tower of the wildernessH4057, they looked upon the multitudeH1995; and, behold, they were dead bodies fallenH5307 to the earthH776, and there were none that escapedH6413. 25And when JehoshaphatH3092 and his peopleH5971 cameH935 to takeH962 the spoilH7998 of them, they foundH4672 among them in abundanceH7230 both riches and dead bodies, and preciousH2530 jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carryH4853 awayH5337: and they wereH1961 threeH7969 daysH3117 in taking the spoilH7998, it was so much. 26And on the fourthH7243 dayH3117 they assembledH6950 themselves in the valleyH6010 of Beracah; for there they blessedH1288 Jehovah: thereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 was calledH7121 The valleyH6010 of Beracah unto this dayH3117. 27Then they returnedH7725, every manH376 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and JehoshaphatH3092 in the forefront of them, to goH7725 again to JerusalemH3389 with joyH8057; for Jehovah had made them to rejoiceH8055 over their enemiesH341. 28And they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 with psalteries and harpsH3658 and trumpetsH2689 unto the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 29And the fearH6343 of GodH430 wasH1961 on all the kingdomsH4467 of the countries, when they heardH8085 that Jehovah foughtH3898 against the enemiesH341 of IsraelH3478. 30So the realm of JehoshaphatH3092 was quietH8252; for his GodH430 gaveH5117 him restH5117 roundH5439 about.
31And JehoshaphatH3092 reignedH4427 over JudahH3063: he was thirtyH7970 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twentyH6242 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AzubahH5806 the daughterH1323 of ShilhiH7977. 32And he walked in the wayH1870 of AsaH609 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 from it, doing that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah. 33Howbeit the highH1116 placesH1116 were not taken awayH5493; neither as yetH5750 had the peopleH5971 set their heartsH3824 unto the GodH430 of their fathersH1. 34Now the restH3499 of the acts of JehoshaphatH3092, firstH7223 and lastH314, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the history of JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607, which is inserted in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478.
35And after this did JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 joinH2266 himself with AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; the same did very wickedlyH7561: 36and he joinedH2266 himself with him to makeH6213 shipsH591 to go to TarshishH8659; and they madeH6213 the shipsH591 in Ezion-geberH6100. 37Then EliezerH461 the sonH1121 of Dodavahu of MareshahH4762 prophesiedH5012 against JehoshaphatH3092, sayingH559, Because thou hast joinedH2266 thyself with AhaziahH274, Jehovah hath destroyed thy worksH4639. And the shipsH591 were brokenH7665, so that they were not able to go to TarshishH8659.
