Asa Succeeds Abijah in Judah
112So AbijahH29 3layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, and his sonH1121 AsaH609 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478. The landH776 wasH8252 undisturbedH8252 for tenH6235 yearsH8141 during his daysH3117.
24And AsaH609 didH6213 what was goodH2896 and rightH3477 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 his GodH430, 3for he removedH5493 5the foreignH5236 altarsH4196 and 6highH1116 placesH1116, toreH7665 downH7665 the memorialH4676 stonesH4676, cutH1438 downH1438 the 78AsherimH842, 4and commandedH559 JudahH3063 to seekH1875 the LordH3068 GodH430 of their fathersH1 and to 9complyH6213 withH6213 the LawH8451 and the commandmentH4687. 5He also removedH5493 the highH1116 placesH1116 and the 10incenseH2553 altarsH2553 from allH3605 the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063. And the kingdomH4467 wasH8252 undisturbedH8252 underH6440 him. 611He builtH1129 fortifiedH4694 citiesH5892 in JudahH3063, sinceH3588 the landH776 wasH8252 undisturbedH8252, and 12thereH369 wasH369 noH369 oneH369 at warH4421 with him during thoseH428 yearsH8141, 13becauseH3588 the LordH3068 had givenH5117 him restH5117. 7For he saidH559 to JudahH3063, “14Let’s buildH1129 theseH428 citiesH5892 and surroundH5437 them with wallsH2346 and towersH4026, gatesH1817 and barsH1280. The landH776 is stillH5750 15oursH6440 becauseH3588 we have soughtH1875 the LordH3068 our GodH430; we have soughtH1875 Him, and He has givenH5117 us restH5117 on everyH5439 sideH5439.” So they builtH1129 and prosperedH6743. 8Now AsaH609 hadH1961 an armyH2428 of 16threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505 from JudahH3063, carryingH5375 largeH6793 shieldsH6793 and spearsH7420, and 280,000H3967H8084H505 from BenjaminH1144, carryingH5375 shieldsH4043 and wieldingH1869 bowsH7198; allH3605 of them were valiantH2428 warriorsH1368.
9Now ZerahH2226 the EthiopianH3569 17wentH3318 outH3318 againstH413 them with an armyH2428 of a millionH505 men and threeH7969 hundredH3967 chariotsH4818, and he cameH935 to 18MareshahH4762. 10So AsaH609 wentH3318 outH3318 19to meetH6440 him, and they drewH6186 upH6186 in battleH4421 formationH6186 in the ValleyH1516 of ZephathahH6859 at MareshahH4762. 11Then AsaH609 20calledH7121 to the LordH3068 his GodH430 and saidH559, “LordH3068, thereH369 isH369 noH369 oneH369 besidesH5973 You to helpH5826 in the battle betweenH996 the powerfulH7227 and those who haveH369 noH369 strengthH3581; helpH5826 us, LordH3068 our GodH430, 21for we trustH8172 in You, and in Your nameH8034 have comeH935 againstH5921 thisH2088 multitudeH1995. LordH3068, You are our GodH430; do not let manH582 prevailH6113 againstH5973 You.” 12So 22the LordH3068 23routedH5062 the EthiopiansH3569 beforeH6440 AsaH609 and beforeH6440 JudahH3063, and the EthiopiansH3569 fledH5127. 13AsaH609 and the peopleH5971 whoH834 were with him pursuedH7291 them as farH5704 as 24GerarH1642; and so many EthiopiansH3569 fellH5307 that 25they could not recoverH4241, for they were shatteredH7665 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 and beforeH6440 His armyH4264. And they carriedH5375 away a veryH3966 largeH7235 amount of plunderH7998. 14They 26destroyedH5221 allH3605 the citiesH5892 aroundH5439 GerarH1642, 27for the dreadH6343 of the LordH3068 had fallenH1961 on them; and they pillagedH962 allH3605 the citiesH5892, for there was muchH7227 plunderH961 in them. 15They alsoH1571 fatallyH5221 struckH5221 28those who ownedH168 livestockH4735, and they ledH7617 awayH7617 largeH7230 numbersH7230 of sheepH6629 and camelsH1581. Then they returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389.
