1 Samuel 19
Darby Bible
1And SaulH7586 spokeH1696 to JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and to all his servantsH5650, that they should slay DavidH1732. 2But JonathanH3083 Saul's son delighted much in DavidH1732. And JonathanH3083 toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH559, SaulH7586 my fatherH1 seeksH1245 to killH4191 thee; and nowH6258, I pray thee, takeH8104 heedH8104 to thyself in the morningH1242, and abide in a secret place and hideH2244 thyself; 3and I will goH3318 out and standH5975 beside my fatherH1 in the fieldH7704 whereH834 thou art, and will speakH1696 of thee with my fatherH1: and seeH7200 what it is, and tellH5046 thee. 4And JonathanH3083 spokeH1696 goodH2896 of DavidH1732 to SaulH7586 his fatherH1, and saidH559 to him, Let not the kingH4428 sinH2398 against his servantH5650, against DavidH1732, because he has not sinnedH2398 against thee; for also what he did was veryH3966 advantageous to thee; 5for he putH4191 his lifeH5315 in handH3709, and smote the PhilistineH6430, and Jehovah wrought a greatH1419 salvationH8668 for all IsraelH3478: thou didst seeH7200 [it], and didst rejoiceH8055; whyH4100 then wilt thou sinH2398 against innocentH5355 bloodH1818, in slaying DavidH1732 without causeH2600? 6And SaulH7586 hearkened to the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083, and SaulH7586 sworeH7650, [As] Jehovah liveth, he shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191! 7Then JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 declaredH5046 to him all those thingsH1697. And JonathanH3083 broughtH935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he wasH1961 in his presenceH6440 as previously. 8And there wasH1961 warH4421 again; and DavidH1732 wentH3318 forthH3318 and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430, and smote them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347; and they fledH5127 before him. 9And an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from Jehovah wasH1961 upon SaulH7586. And he satH3427 in his houseH1004 with his spearH2595 in his handH3027; and DavidH1732 playedH5059 with his handH3027. 10And SaulH7586 soughtH1245 to smite DavidH1732 and the wallH7023 with the spearH2595; but he slipped away out of Saul's presenceH6440, and he smote the spearH2595 into the wallH7023. And DavidH1732 fledH5127, and escapedH4422 that nightH3915. 11And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to David's houseH1004, to watchH8104 him, and to slay him in the morningH1242; and MichalH4324 David's wifeH802 toldH5046 him, sayingH559, If thou saveH4422 not thy lifeH5315 to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be putH4191 to deathH4191. 12And MichalH4324 let DavidH1732 downH3381 through a windowH2474; and he wentH3381, and fledH1272 and escapedH4422. 13And MichalH4324 tookH3947 the image, and laid it in the bedH4296, and putH7760 the net of goats' [hair] at its headH4763, and coveredH3680 it with the coverlet. 14And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, and she saidH559, He is sickH2470. 15And SaulH7586 sentH7971 the messengersH4397 to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH559, BringH5927 him up to me in the bedH4296, that I may putH4191 him to deathH4191. 16And the messengersH4397 cameH935 in, and behold, the image was in the bedH4296, and the net of goats' [hair] at its headH4763. 17Then SaulH7586 saidH559 to MichalH4324, WhyH4100 hast thou deceived me so, and sentH7971 awayH7971 mine enemyH341, that he is escapedH4422? And MichalH4324 saidH559 to SaulH7586, He saidH559 to me, Let me goH7971; whyH4100 should I slay thee? 18And DavidH1732 fledH1272, and escapedH4422, and cameH935 to SamuelH8050 to RamahH7414, and toldH5046 him all that SaulH7586 had done to him. And he and SamuelH8050 wentH935 and dweltH3427 in NaiothH5121. 19And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH559, Behold, DavidH1732 is at NaiothH5121 by RamahH7414. 20Then SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732; and they sawH7200 a company of prophetsH5030 prophesyingH5012, and SamuelH8050 standingH5975 as president over them; and the SpiritH7307 of 1GodH430 came upon the messengersH4397 of SaulH7586, and they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. 21And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, and he sentH7971 otherH312 messengersH4397, and they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 again the thirdH7992 time, and they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. 22Then wentH935 he alsoH1571 to RamahH7414, and cameH935 to the greatH1419 wellH1571 that is in Sechu; and he askedH7592 and saidH559, WhereH834 are SamuelH8050 and DavidH1732? And one saidH559, Behold, at NaiothH5121 by RamahH7414. 23And he wentH1980 thither to NaiothH5121 by RamahH7414; and the SpiritH7307 of 2GodH430 cameH935 upon him alsoH1571, and he wentH1980 on, and prophesiedH5012, until he cameH935 to NaiothH5121 by RamahH7414. 24And he himself alsoH1571 strippedH6584 off his clothesH899, and prophesiedH5012, himself alsoH1571, before SamuelH8050, and lay downH5307 nakedH6174 all that dayH3117 and all that nightH3915. Wherefore they sayH559, Is SaulH7586 alsoH1571 among the prophetsH5030?
