1And what SamuelH8050 had said happened to all IsraelH3478. And IsraelH3478 wentH3318 out against the PhilistinesH6430 to battleH4421, and encampedH2583 beside Eben-ezer; and the PhilistinesH6430 encampedH2583 in AphekH663. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 put themselves in array against IsraelH3478; and the battleH4421 spreadH5203, and IsraelH3478 was routed before the PhilistinesH6430; and they slew in battleH4421 array in the fieldH7704 about fourH702 thousandH505 menH376. 3And the peopleH5971 cameH935 into the campH4264; and the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, WhyH4100 has Jehovah smitten us to-day before the PhilistinesH6430? Let us fetch ourselves the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah out of ShilohH7887, that it may comeH935 among us, and saveH3467 us out of the handH3709 of our enemiesH341. 4So the peopleH5971 sentH7971 to ShilohH7887, and they brought from thence the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah of hostsH6635, who sitteth between the cherubimH3742; and the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, were there by the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of 1GodH430. 5And it cameH935 to pass when the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah cameH935 into the campH4264, that all IsraelH3478 shoutedH7321 with a greatH1419 shoutH7321, so that the earthH776 shook. 6And the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 the noise of the shoutH8643, and saidH559, What is the noise of this greatH1419 shoutH8643 in the campH4264 of the HebrewsH5680? And they understood that the arkH727 of Jehovah had comeH935 into the campH4264. 7And the PhilistinesH6430 wereH1961 afraidH3372, for they saidH559, 2GodH430 is comeH935 into the campH4264. And they saidH559, WoeH188 unto us! for there has not beenH1961 such a thing heretofore. 8WoeH188 unto us! who shall deliverH5337 us out of the handH3027 of these mightyH117 3godsH430? these are the 4godsH430 that smote the Egyptians with every plagueH4347 in the wildernessH4057. 9Shew yourselves valiant and beH1961 menH376, ye PhilistinesH6430, that ye may not have to beH1961 servants to the HebrewsH5680, as they have beenH1961 servants to you: beH1961 menH376, and fightH3898. 10And the PhilistinesH6430 foughtH3898, and IsraelH3478 wasH1961 routed, and they fledH5127 every manH376 to his tentH168; and there wasH1961 a veryH3966 greatH1419 slaughterH4347, and there fellH5307 of IsraelH3478 thirtyH7970 thousandH505 footmen. 11And the arkH727 of 5GodH430 was takenH3947; and the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, diedH4191. 12And there ranH7323 a manH376 of BenjaminH1144 out of the battleH4634, and cameH935 to ShilohH7887 the same dayH3117, with his clothes rent and with earthH127 upon his headH7218. 13And when he cameH935, behold, EliH5941 wasH1961 sittingH3427 upon the seatH3678 by the way-side watchingH6822; for his heartH3820 trembled for the arkH727 of 6GodH430. And the manH376 cameH935 to tellH5046 it in the cityH5892, and all the cityH5892 criedH2199 out. 14And EliH5941 heardH8085 the noise of the crying, and saidH559, What is the noise of this tumultH1995? And the manH376 cameH935 hastily, and toldH5046 EliH5941. 15Now EliH5941 was ninety-eight yearsH8141 old; and his eyesH5869 were setH6965, that he could not seeH7200. 16And the manH376 saidH559 to EliH5941, I am he that cameH935 out of the battleH4634, and I have fledH5127 to-day out of the battleH4634. And he saidH559, What has taken place, my sonH1121? 17And the messenger answered and saidH559, IsraelH3478 has fledH5127 before the PhilistinesH6430, and there has beenH1961 alsoH1571 a greatH1419 slaughterH4046 among the peopleH5971, and thy twoH8147 sonsH1121 alsoH1571, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, are deadH4191, and the arkH727 of 7GodH430 is takenH3947. 18And it came to pass, when he mentioned the arkH727 of 8GodH430, that he fellH5307 from off the seatH3678 backwardH322 by the side of the gateH8179, and his neck brokeH7665, and he diedH4191; for the manH376 wasH1961 oldH2204, and heavyH3515. And he had judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 fortyH705 yearsH8141. 19And his daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wifeH802, was with child, near to be delivered; and when she heardH8085 the tidings that the arkH727 of 9GodH430 was takenH3947, and that her father-in-law and her husbandH376 were deadH4191, she bowedH3766 herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her. 20And as she was dyingH4191, the women that stoodH5324 by her saidH1696, FearH3372 not; for thou hast borneH3205 a sonH1121. But she did not answerH6030, neither did she take it to heartH3820. 21And she named the child Ichabod, sayingH559, The gloryH3519 is departed from IsraelH3478; because the arkH727 of 10GodH430 was takenH3947, and because of her father-in-law and her husbandH376. 22And she saidH559, The gloryH3519 is departed from IsraelH3478, for the arkH727 of 11GodH430 is takenH3947.
