Darby Bible

1And the menH376 of Kirjath-jearim cameH935, and fetched up the arkH727 of Jehovah, and broughtH935 it into the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41 on the hillH1389, and hallowed EleazarH499 his sonH1121 to keepH8104 the arkH727 of Jehovah. 2And it came to pass, from the dayH3117 that the arkH727 abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time wasH1961 long; for it wasH1961 twentyH6242 yearsH8141. And all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 lamented after Jehovah. 3And SamuelH8050 spoke to all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, If ye returnH7725 to Jehovah with all your heartH3824, put awayH5493 the strange 1godsH430 and the Ashtoreths from among you, and apply your heartsH3824 unto Jehovah, and serveH5647 him onlyH905; and he will deliverH5337 you out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 4And the children of IsraelH3478 put awayH5493 the BaalsH1168 and the Ashtoreths and servedH5647 Jehovah onlyH905. 5And SamuelH8050 saidH559, GatherH6908 all IsraelH3478 to MizpahH4709, and I will prayH6419 Jehovah for you. 6And they gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 to MizpahH4709, and drewH7579 waterH4325, and pouredH8210 it out before Jehovah, and fastedH6684 on that dayH3117, and saidH559 there, We have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah. And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 the children of IsraelH3478 in MizpahH4709. 7And the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that the children of IsraelH3478 were gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 at MizpahH4709; and the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 up against IsraelH3478; and the children of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 [it], and were afraidH3372 of the PhilistinesH6430. 8And the children of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Cease not to cryH2199 to Jehovah our 2GodH430 for us, that he will saveH3467 us out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 9And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a sucking-lamb, and offeredH5927 it as a wholeH3632 burnt-offering to Jehovah; and SamuelH8050 criedH2199 to Jehovah for IsraelH3478, and Jehovah answeredH6030 him. 10And as SamuelH8050 wasH1961 offeringH5927 up the burnt-offering, the PhilistinesH6430 advanced to battleH4421 against IsraelH3478. And Jehovah thunderedH7481 with a greatH1419 thunderH6963 on that dayH3117 upon the PhilistinesH6430, and discomfited them; and they wereH1961 routedH2000 before IsraelH3478. 11And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 wentH3318 out of MizpahH4709, and pursuedH7291 the PhilistinesH6430, and smote them, as far as below Beth-car. 12And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a stoneH68 and setH7760 it between MizpahH4709 and Shen, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Eben-ezer, and saidH559, Hitherto Jehovah has helpedH5826 us. 13And the PhilistinesH6430 wereH1961 subduedH3665, and cameH935 no more into the bordersH1366 of IsraelH3478; and the handH3027 of Jehovah wasH1961 against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050. 14And the citiesH5892 that the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947 from IsraelH3478 were restoredH7725 to IsraelH3478, from EkronH6138 even to GathH1661; and their territoryH1366 did IsraelH3478 deliverH5337 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And there wasH1961 peaceH7965 between IsraelH3478 and the AmoriteH567. 15And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of his life. 16And he wentH1980 from yearH8141 to yearH8141 in circuit to Bethel, and GilgalH1537, and MizpahH4709, and judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 in all those placesH4725. 17And his returnH8666 was to RamahH7414; for there was his houseH1004, and there he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478; and there he builtH1129 an altarH4196 to Jehovah.
