1 Samuel 19
Revised Version 1895
1And SaulH7586 spake to JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and to allH3605 his servantsH5650, that they should slayH4191 DavidH1732. But JonathanH3129 Saul’sH7586 sonH1121 delighted muchH3605 in DavidH1732. 2And JonathanH3083 toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH559, SaulH7586 my fatherH1 seeketh to slayH4191 thee: nowH6258 therefore, I prayH4994 thee, takeH8104 heedH8104 to thyself in the morningH1242, and abideH3427 in a secret place, and hideH2244 thyself: 3and I will goH3318 outH3318 and standH5975 besideH3027 my fatherH1 in the fieldH7704 whereH834 thou art, and I will commune with my fatherH1 of thee; and ifH834 I seeH7200 aught, I will tellH5046 thee. 4And JonathanH3083 spake goodH2896 of DavidH1732 unto SaulH7586 his fatherH1, and saidH559 unto him, LetH408 notH3808 the kingH4428 sinH2398 againstH413 his servantH5650, againstH413 DavidH1732; becauseH3588 he hath notH3808 sinnedH2398 againstH413 thee, and becauseH3588 his worksH4639 have been to thee-ward veryH3966 goodH2896: 5for he putH4191 his lifeH5315 in his handH3709, and smoteH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and the LORDH3068 wroughtH7760 a greatH1419 victoryH8668 for allH3605 IsraelH3478: thou sawest it, and didst rejoiceH8055: wherefore then wilt thou sinH2398 againstH2398 innocentH5355 bloodH1818, to slayH4191 DavidH1732 withoutH2600 a causeH2600? 6And SaulH7586 hearkened unto the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083: and SaulH7586 sware, As the LORDH3068 liveth, he shall notH518 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 7And JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 shewed him allH3605 thoseH428 things. And JonathanH3083 broughtH935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he was in his presenceH6440, as beforetime. 8And there was warH4421 againH3254: and DavidH1732 wentH3318 outH3318, and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430, and slewH5221 them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347; and they fledH5127 beforeH6440 him. 9And an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LORDH3068 was uponH1961 SaulH7586 as he satH3427 in his houseH1004 with his spearH2595 in his handH3027; and DavidH1732 playedH5059 with his handH3027. 10And SaulH7586 soughtH1245 to smiteH5221 DavidH1732 evenH853 to the wallH7023 with the spearH2595; but he slippedH6362 awayH5127 outH6440 of Saul’sH7586 presenceH6440, and he smoteH5221 the spearH2595 intoH2595 the wallH7023: and DavidH1732 fledH5127, and escapedH4422 that nightH3915. 11And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto David’sH1732 houseH1004, to watchH8104 him, and to slayH4191 him in the morningH1242: and MichalH4324 David’sH1732 wifeH802 toldH5046 him, sayingH559, IfH518 thou saveH4422 notH369 thy lifeH5315 to-night, tomorrowH4279 thou shalt be slain. 12SoH3381 MichalH4324 letH3381 DavidH1732 downH3381 throughH1157 the windowH2474: and he wentH3381, and fledH1272, and escapedH4422; 13And MichalH4324 tookH3947 the teraphimH8655, and laidH7760 it in the bedH4296, and putH7760 a pillow of goats’H5795 hair at the headH4763 thereof, and coveredH3680 it with the clothesH899. 14And when SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, sheH1931 saidH559, He is sickH2470. 15And SaulH7586 sentH7971 the messengersH4397 to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH559, BringH5927 him upH5927 to meH413 in the bedH4296, that I may slayH4191 him. 16And when the messengersH4397 cameH935 in, beholdH2009, the teraphimH8655 was in the bedH4296, with the pillow of goats’H5795 hair at the headH4763 thereof. 17And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto MichalH4324, WhyH4100 hast thou deceivedH7411 meH413 thusH3602, and letH7971 mine enemyH341 goH7971, that he is escapedH4422? And MichalH4324 answeredH559 SaulH7586, He saidH559 unto meH413, LetH7971 meH413 goH7971; whyH4100 should I killH4191 thee? 18NowH935 DavidH1732 fledH1272, and escapedH4422, and cameH935 to SamuelH8050 to RamahH7414, and toldH5046 him allH3605 that SaulH7586 had doneH6213 to him. And he and SamuelH8050 wentH935 and dweltH3427 in NaiothH5121. 19And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, DavidH1732 is at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 20And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732: and when they sawH7200 the companyH3862 of the prophetsH5030 prophesyingH5012, and SamuelH8050 standingH5975 as head over them, the spiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH1961 uponH5921 the messengersH4397 of SaulH7586, and they also prophesiedH5012; 21And when it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, he sentH7971 otherH312 messengersH4397, and they also prophesiedH5012. And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH3254 the thirdH7992 time, and they also prophesiedH5012. 22Then wentH935 he also to RamahH7414, and cameH935 to the greatH1419 wellH1571 that is in SecuH7906: and he askedH7592 and saidH559, WhereH834 are SamuelH8050 and DavidH1732? And one saidH559, BeholdH2009, they be at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 23And he wentH1980 thither to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414: and the spiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH935 uponH5921 him also, and he wentH1980 on, and prophesiedH5012, untilH5704 he cameH935 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 24And he also strippedH6584 offH6584 his clothesH899, and he also prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050, and layH5307 downH5307 nakedH6174 allH3605 that dayH3117 and allH3605 that nightH3915. Wherefore they sayH559, Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030?
