1 Samuel 30
Darby Bible
1And it cameH935 to pass, when DavidH1732 and his menH376 cameH935 to ZiklagH6860 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that the Amalekites had madeH6584 a raidH6584 upon the southH5045, and upon ZiklagH6860, and smitten ZiklagH6860 and burnedH8313 it with fireH784; 2and had takenH7617 the womenH802 captivesH7617 that were in it; both greatH1419 and smallH6996: they had putH4191 none to deathH4191, but had carried them off, and went on their wayH1870. 3And DavidH1732 and his menH376 cameH935 to the cityH5892, and behold, it was burnt with fireH784; and their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121, and their daughtersH1323 were takenH7617 captivesH7617. 4Then DavidH1732 and the peopleH5971 that were with him liftedH5375 up their voiceH6963 and weptH1058, until they had no more powerH3581 to weepH1058. 5And David's twoH8147 wivesH802 were takenH7617 captivesH7617, AhinoamH293 the Jizreelitess, and AbigailH26 the wifeH802 of NabalH5037 the CarmeliteH3761. 6And DavidH1732 was greatly distressed; for the peopleH5971 spoke of stoningH5619 him; for the soulH5315 of all the peopleH5971 was embittered, every manH376 because of his sonsH1121 and because of his daughtersH1323; but DavidH1732 strengthenedH2388 himself in Jehovah his 1GodH430. 7And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, Ahimelech's sonH1121, BringH5066 near to me, I pray thee, the ephodH646. And AbiatharH54 broughtH5066 the ephodH646 near to DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 inquired of Jehovah, sayingH559, Shall I pursueH7291 after this troopH1416? shall I overtakeH5381 them? And he saidH559 to him, PursueH7291; for thou shalt assuredly overtakeH5381 [them] and shalt certainly recover. 9So DavidH1732 wentH935, he and the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him, and they cameH935 to the torrent BesorH1308; and those that were leftH3498 stayed behind. 10And DavidH1732 pursuedH7291, he and fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376; for twoH3967 hundredH3967 stayed behind, who were too exhaustedH6296 to go over the torrent BesorH1308. 11And they foundH4672 an EgyptianH4713 in the fieldH7704, and brought him to DavidH1732, and gaveH5414 him breadH3899, and he ateH398; and they gaveH5414 him waterH4325 to drinkH8248, 12and gaveH5414 him a piece of fig-cake and twoH8147 raisin-cakes, and he ateH398, and his spiritH7307 came again to him; for he had eatenH398 no breadH3899, nor drunkH8354 any waterH4325, for threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nightsH3915. 13And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he saidH559, I am a youngH5288 manH376 of EgyptH4713, servantH5650 of an AmalekiteH6003; and my masterH113 leftH5800 me, because threeH7969 daysH3117 ago I fell sickH2470. 14We madeH6584 a raidH6584 against the southH5045 of the Cherethites, and against what [belongs] to JudahH3063, and against the southH5045 of CalebH3612; and we burnedH8313 ZiklagH6860 with fireH784. 15And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, Canst thou bringH3381 me downH3381 to this troopH1416? And he saidH559, SwearH7650 to me by 2GodH430, that thou wilt neither putH4191 me to deathH4191 nor deliverH5462 me up into the handH3027 of my masterH113, and I will bringH3381 thee downH3381 to this troopH1416. 16And he brought him downH3381, and behold, they were spreadH5203 over the whole landH776, eatingH398 and drinkingH8354, and dancing, because of all the greatH1419 spoilH7998 that they had takenH3947 out of the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the landH776 of JudahH3063. 17And DavidH1732 smote them from the twilight even to the eveningH6153 of the nextH4283 dayH4283; and there escapedH4422 not a manH376 of them, saveH4422 fourH702 hundredH3967 youngH5288 menH376, who rodeH7392 upon camelsH1581, and fledH5127. 18And DavidH1732 recovered all that the Amalekites had takenH3947: and DavidH1732 recovered his twoH8147 wivesH802. 19And there was nothing missed by them, neither smallH6996 nor greatH1419, neither sonsH1121 nor daughtersH1323, neither spoilH7998 nor anything that they had takenH3947: DavidH1732 broughtH7725 all backH7725. 20And DavidH1732 tookH3947 all the flocksH6629 and the herdsH1241, [which] they drove before the other cattleH1241, and saidH559, This is David's spoilH7998. 21And DavidH1732 cameH935 to the two hundredH3967 menH376 who had been too exhaustedH6296 to follow DavidH1732, and whom they had left behind at the torrent BesorH1308; and they wentH3318 forthH3318 to meetH7122 DavidH1732, and to meetH7122 the peopleH5971 that were with him; and DavidH1732 drewH5066 near to the peopleH5971 and saluted them. 22And all the wickedH7451 menH376, and [menH376] of Belial, of those that had goneH1980 with DavidH1732, answered and saidH559, Because they wentH1980 not with us, we will not giveH5414 them [aught] of the spoilH7998 that we have recovered, save to every manH376 his wifeH802 and his children, that they may lead [them] away and depart. 23Then saidH559 DavidH1732, Ye shall not do soH3651, my brethren, with that which Jehovah has givenH5414 us, who has preservedH8104 us, and givenH5414 the troopH1416 that cameH935 against us into our handH3027. 24And who will hearken to you in this matterH1697? For as his shareH2506 is that goesH3381 downH3381 to the battleH4421, so shall his shareH2506 be that abides by the baggage: they shall shareH2506 alikeH3162. 25And it wasH1961 [so] from that dayH3117 forward; and he madeH7760 it a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 for IsraelH3478 to this dayH3117. 26And DavidH1732 cameH935 to ZiklagH6860, and he sentH7971 of the spoilH7998 to the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063, to his friendsH7453, sayingH559, Behold a present for you of the spoilH7998 of the enemiesH341 of Jehovah: 27to those in Bethel, and to those in south RamothH7418, and to those in JattirH3492, 28and to those in AroerH6177, and to those in Siphmoth, and to those in EshtemoaH851, 29and to those in Rachal, and to those in the citiesH5892 of the Jerahmeelites, and to those in the citiesH5892 of the Kenites, 30and to those in HormahH2767, and to those in Chor-ashan, and to those in Athach, 31and to those in HebronH2275, and to all the placesH4725 whereH834 DavidH1732 himself and his menH376 wentH1980 about.
