1And NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 cameH5927 up and encampedH2583 against Jabesh-Gilead. And all the menH376 of JabeshH3003 saidH559 to NahashH5176, MakeH3772 a covenantH1285 with us, and we will serveH5647 thee. 2And NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 saidH559 to them, On this [condition] will I treat with you, that I thrust out all your rightH3225 eyesH5869, and lay it for a reproachH2781 upon all IsraelH3478. 3And the eldersH2205 of JabeshH3003 saidH559 to him, Allow us sevenH7651 daysH3117, and we will sendH7971 messengersH4397 into all the districts of IsraelH3478; and if there be no manH2205 to deliverH3467 us, we will comeH3318 out to thee. 4And the messengersH4397 cameH935 to GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586 and told these wordsH1697 in the earsH241 of the peopleH5971. And all the peopleH5971 liftedH5375 up their voiceH6963 and weptH1058. 5And behold, SaulH7586 cameH935 after the oxenH1241 from the fieldH7704; and SaulH7586 saidH559, What [aileth] the peopleH5971 that they weepH1058? And they related to him the wordsH1697 of the menH376 of JabeshH3003. 6And the SpiritH7307 of 1GodH430 came upon SaulH7586 when he heardH8085 those wordsH1697, and his angerH639 was kindled greatly. 7And he tookH3947 a yoke of oxenH1241 and cutH5408 them in pieces, and sentH7971 throughout the territoryH1366 of IsraelH3478 by the handH3027 of messengersH4397, sayingH559, Whoever comesH3318 not forthH3318 after SaulH7586 and after SamuelH8050, so shall it be done to his oxenH1241! And the fearH6343 of Jehovah fellH5307 on the peopleH5971, and they cameH3318 out as oneH259 manH376. 8And he numbered them in BezekH966, and the children of IsraelH3478 wereH1961 threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505, and the menH376 of JudahH3063 thirtyH7970 thousandH505. 9And they saidH559 to the messengersH4397 that had comeH935, ThusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to the menH376 of Jabesh-Gilead: To-morrow ye shall have deliveranceH8668 when the sunH8121 is hot. And the messengersH4397 cameH935 and informed the menH376 of Jabesh-Gilead; and they wereH1961 gladH8055. 10And the menH376 of JabeshH3003 saidH559, To-morrow we will comeH3318 out to you, and ye may do with us according to all that is goodH2896 in your sight. 11And it cameH935 to pass the nextH4283 dayH3117 that SaulH7586 setH7760 the peopleH5971 in threeH7969 companiesH7218; and they cameH935 into the midstH8432 of the campH4264 in the morningH1242 watchH821, and smote AmmonH5983 until the heatH2527 of the dayH3117: and it cameH935 to pass that they who remainedH7604 wereH1961 scatteredH6327, and not twoH8147 of them wereH1961 leftH7604 togetherH3162. 12And the peopleH5971 saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Who is he that saidH559, Shall SaulH7586 reignH4427 over us? bring the menH376, that we may putH5414 them to deathH4191. 13But SaulH7586 saidH559, There shall not a manH376 be putH4191 to deathH4191 this dayH3117; for to-day Jehovah has wrought deliveranceH8668 in IsraelH3478. 14And SamuelH8050 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, Come and let us go to GilgalH1537, and renewH2318 the kingdom there. 15And all the peopleH5971 went to GilgalH1537; and there they madeH8055 SaulH7586 kingH4427 before Jehovah in GilgalH1537; and there they sacrificedH2076 peace-offerings before Jehovah. And there SaulH7586 and all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 rejoicedH8055 exceedinglyH3966.
