1 Samuel 3

Darby Bible

1And the boy SamuelH8050 ministered to Jehovah before EliH5941. And the wordH1697 of Jehovah was rare in those daysH3117; a visionH2377 was not frequent. 2And it came to pass at that time, when EliH5941 layH7901 in his placeH4725 (now his eyesH5869 beganH2490 to grow dimH3544, he could not seeH7200), 3and the lampH5216 of 1GodH430 had not yetH2962 gone out, and SamuelH8050 layH7901 in the templeH1964 of Jehovah, whereH834 the arkH727 of 2GodH430 was, 4that Jehovah calledH7121 to SamuelH8050. And he saidH559, HereH2005 am I. 5And he ranH7323 to EliH5941, and saidH559, HereH2005 am I; for thou calledst me. And he saidH559, I did not callH7121: lieH7901 down again. And he wentH7725 and layH7901 downH7901. 6And Jehovah calledH7121 againH5750, SamuelH8050! And SamuelH8050 aroseH6965 and wentH7725 to EliH5941, and saidH559, HereH2005 am I; for thou calledst me. And he saidH559, I did not callH7121, my sonH1121: lieH7901 down againH5750. 7Now SamuelH8050 did not yetH2962 knowH3045 Jehovah, neither had the wordH1697 of Jehovah yetH2962 been revealedH1540 to him. 8And Jehovah calledH7121 again the thirdH7992 time, SamuelH8050! And he aroseH6965 and went to EliH5941, and saidH559, HereH2005 am I; for thou calledst me. And EliH5941 perceivedH995 that Jehovah was callingH7121 the boy. 9And EliH5941 saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Go, lieH7901 down; and it shall beH1961, if he callH7121 thee, that thou shalt sayH559, SpeakH1696, Jehovah, for thy servantH5650 heareth. So SamuelH8050 went and layH7901 downH7901 in his placeH4725. 10And Jehovah cameH935, and stoodH3320, and calledH7121 as at the other timesH6471, SamuelH8050, SamuelH8050! And SamuelH8050 saidH559, SpeakH1696, for thy servantH5650 heareth. 11And Jehovah saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Behold, I do a thingH1697 in IsraelH3478, at which both the earsH241 of every one that heareth it shall tingleH6750. 12In that dayH3117 I will perform against EliH5941 all that I have spokenH1696 concerningH413 his houseH1004; I will beginH2490 and make an endH3615. 13For I have declaredH5046 to him that I will judgeH8199 his houseH1004 for everH5769, for the iniquityH5771 which he hath knownH3045: because his sonsH1121 madeH3045 themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 14And thereforeH3651 I have swornH7650 unto the houseH1004 of EliH5941 that the iniquityH5771 of Eli's houseH1004 shall not be expiated with sacrificeH2077 or oblation for everH5769. 15And SamuelH8050 layH7901 until the morningH1242, and openedH6605 the doorsH1817 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. And SamuelH8050 fearedH3372 to declareH5046 the visionH4759 to EliH5941. 16And EliH5941 calledH7121 SamuelH8050, and saidH559, SamuelH8050, my sonH1121. And he saidH559, HereH2005 am I. 17And he saidH559, What is the wordH1697 that he has spokenH1696 to thee? I pray thee, keep it not back from me: 3GodH430 do so to thee, and moreH4480 also, if thou keep back anything from me of all the wordH1697 that he spokeH1696 to thee. 18And SamuelH8050 toldH5046 him all the wordsH1697, and kept nothing back from him. And he saidH559, It is Jehovah: let him do what is goodH2896 in his sight. 19And SamuelH8050 grewH1431, and Jehovah wasH1961 with him, and let none of his wordsH1697 fallH5307 to the groundH776. 20And all IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 even to Beer-sheba, knewH3045 that SamuelH8050 was establishedH539 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah. 21And Jehovah appearedH7200 again at ShilohH7887; for Jehovah revealedH1540 himself to SamuelH8050 at ShilohH7887 by the wordH1697 of Jehovah.
