Darby Bible

1SaulH7586 was...yearsH8141 old when he becameH4427 kingH4427; and he reignedH4427 twoH8147 yearsH8141 over IsraelH3478. 2And SaulH7586 choseH977 him threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 out of IsraelH3478: there wereH1961 with SaulH7586 two thousandH505 in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousandH505 wereH1961 with JonathanH3129 in GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144; and the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 he sentH7971 every manH376 to his tentH168. 3And JonathanH3129 smote the outpost of the PhilistinesH6430 that was in GebaH1387, and the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 [of it]. And SaulH7586 blew the trumpetH7782 throughout the landH776, sayingH559, Let the HebrewsH5680 hearH8085. 4And all IsraelH3478 heardH8085 sayH559, SaulH7586 has smitten the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430, and IsraelH3478 alsoH1571 has becomeH887 odiousH887 to the PhilistinesH6430. And the peopleH5971 were called together after SaulH7586 to GilgalH1537. 5And the PhilistinesH6430 were assembled together to fightH3898 with IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH505 chariotsH7393, and sixH8337 thousandH505 horsemenH6571, and peopleH5971 as the sandH2344 which is on the sea-shore in multitudeH7230; and they cameH5927 up, and encampedH2583 in Michmash, eastward from Beth-Aven. 6And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 that they were in a strait (for the peopleH5971 were distressed); and the peopleH5971 hidH2244 themselves in cavesH4631, and in thickets, and in cliffsH5553, and in strongholds, and in pitsH953. 7And the HebrewsH5680 went over the JordanH3383 into the landH776 of GadH1410 and GileadH1568. And SaulH7586 was yetH5750 in GilgalH1537, and all the peopleH5971 followed him tremblingH2729. 8And he waitedH3176 sevenH7651 daysH3117, according to the set time that SamuelH8050 [had appointedH4150]; but SamuelH8050 did not comeH935 to GilgalH1537; and the peopleH5971 were scatteredH6327 from him. 9And SaulH7586 saidH559, BringH5927 hither to me the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings. And he offeredH5927 up the burnt-offering. 10And it cameH935 to pass, as soon as he had endedH3615 offeringH5927 up the burnt-offering, behold, SamuelH8050 cameH935; and SaulH7586 wentH3318 out to meetH7122 him, that he might salute him. 11And SamuelH8050 saidH559, What hast thou done? And SaulH7586 saidH559, Because I sawH7200 that the peopleH5971 were scatteredH5310 from me, and that thou didst not comeH935 within the daysH3117 appointedH4150, and that the PhilistinesH6430 were assembled at Michmash, 12I saidH559, The PhilistinesH6430 will comeH5927 down nowH6258 upon me to GilgalH1537, and I have not made supplication to Jehovah; and I forced myself, and offeredH5927 up the burnt-offering. 13And SamuelH8050 saidH559 to SaulH7586, Thou hast done foolishlyH5528: thou hast not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 of Jehovah thy 1GodH430 which he commandedH6680 thee; for nowH6258 would Jehovah have establishedH3559 thy kingdomH4467 over IsraelH3478 for everH5769. 14But nowH6258 thy kingdomH4467 shall not continue: Jehovah has soughtH1245 him a manH376 after his own heartH3824, and Jehovah has appointedH6680 him rulerH5057 over his peopleH5971; for thou hast not keptH8104 what Jehovah commandedH6680 thee. 15And SamuelH8050 aroseH6965 and wentH5927 up from GilgalH1537 to GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144. And SaulH7586 numbered the peopleH5971 that were foundH4672 with him, about sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376. 16And SaulH7586, and JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and the peopleH5971 that were foundH4672 with them, abode in GebaH1387 of BenjaminH1144; and the PhilistinesH6430 encampedH2583 in Michmash. 17And the ravagers cameH3318 out of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 in threeH7969 companiesH7218: oneH259 company turnedH6437 the wayH1870 of OphrahH6084, into the landH776 of ShualH7777; 18and another companyH7218 turnedH6437 the wayH1870 to Beth-horonH1032; and the other companyH7218 turnedH6437 the wayH1870 to the district that looksH8259 over the ravine of ZeboimH6650 toward the wildernessH4057. 19Now there was no smith foundH4672 throughout the landH776 of IsraelH3478; for the PhilistinesH6430 saidH559, LestH6435 the HebrewsH5680 makeH6213 them swordsH2719 or spearsH2595. 20And all IsraelH3478 wentH3381 downH3381 to the PhilistinesH6430, every manH376 to get his ploughshare, and his hoe, and his axeH7134, and his sickle sharpenedH3913, 21when the edges of the sickles, and the hoes, and the forks, and the axes wereH1961 blunted; and to setH5324 the goads. 22And it came to pass in the dayH3117 of battleH4421, that there wasH1961 neither swordH2719 nor spearH2595 foundH4672 in the handH3027 of any of the peopleH5971 that were with SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129; but with SaulH7586 and with JonathanH3129 his sonH1121 there wasH1961 foundH4672. 23And a garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH3318 out to the passage of Michmash.
