1 Samuel 2

1And HannahH2584 prayedH6419, and saidH559, My heartH3820 exulteth in Jehovah, my hornH7161 is liftedH7311 up in Jehovah; my mouthH6310 is openedH7337 wideH7337 over mine enemiesH341; for I rejoiceH8055 in thy salvationH3444. 2There is none holyH6918 as Jehovah, for there is none beside thee, neither is there any rockH6697 like our 1GodH430. 3Do not multiplyH7235 your words of pride, let not vain-glory comeH3318 out of your mouthH6310; For Jehovah is a 2GodH410 of knowledgeH1844, and by him actions are weighedH8505. 4The bowH7198 of the mightyH1368 is broken, and they that stumbledH3782 are girdedH247 with strengthH2428. 5They that were full have hiredH7936 themselves out for breadH3899; and the hungryH7457 are [so] no more: Even the barrenH6135 beareth sevenH7651, and she that hath manyH7227 children is waxed feeble. 6Jehovah killeth, and maketh aliveH2421; he bringeth downH3381 to SheolH7585, and bringeth up. 7Jehovah maketh poor, and maketh richH6238, he bringeth lowH8213, alsoH637 he lifteth up: 8He raiseth up the poor out of the dustH6083; from the dung-hill he lifteth up the needyH34, To setH6965 [him] among noblesH5081; and he maketh them inheritH5157 a throneH3678 of gloryH3519; For the pillars of the earthH776 are Jehovah's, and he hath setH6965 the worldH8398 upon them. 9He keepeth the feetH7272 of his saints, but the wickedH7563 are silenced in darknessH2822; for by strengthH3581 shall no manH376 prevailH1396. 10They that strive with Jehovah shall be broken to pieces; in the heavensH8064 will he thunderH7481 upon them. Jehovah will judgeH1777 the endsH657 of the earthH776; and he will giveH5414 strengthH5797 unto his kingH4428, and exaltH7311 the hornH7161 of his anointedH4899. 11And ElkanahH511 went to RamahH7414 to his houseH1004. And the boy ministered to Jehovah in the presenceH6440 of EliH5941 the priestH3548. 12Now the sonsH1121 of EliH5941 were sonsH1121 of Belial; they knewH3045 not Jehovah. 13And the priests' customH4941 with the peopleH5971 was, when any manH376 sacrificedH2076 a sacrificeH2077, the priest's servantH5288 cameH935, when the fleshH1320 was cooked, with a flesh-hook of threeH7969 prongs in his handH3027; 14and he struckH5221 it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or potH6517; the priestH3548 tookH3947 of it all that the flesh-hook broughtH935 up. So they did in ShilohH7887 to all the Israelites that cameH935 there. 15Even before they burned the fatH2459, the priest's servantH5288 cameH935, and saidH559 to the manH376 that sacrificedH2076, GiveH5414 fleshH1320 to roast for the priestH3548, and he will not acceptH3947 sodden fleshH1320 of thee, but raw. 16If the manH376 saidH559 to him, They will immediately burn the fatH2459 entire, then takeH3947 as thy soulH5315 desiresH8378; he would sayH559 [to him], No, but thou shalt giveH5414 [it] nowH6258; and if not, I will takeH3947 [it] by forceH2394. 17And the sinH2403 of the youngH5288 menH376 wasH1961 veryH3966 greatH1419 before Jehovah, for menH376 despised the offeringH4503 of Jehovah. 18And SamuelH8050 ministered before Jehovah, a boy girdedH2296 with a linenH906 ephodH646. 19And his motherH517 madeH6213 him a littleH6996 coat, and broughtH5927 it to him from year to year, when she cameH5927 up with her husbandH376 to sacrificeH2077 the yearly sacrificeH2077. 20And EliH5941 blessedH1288 ElkanahH511 and his wifeH802, and saidH559, Jehovah give thee seedH2233 of this womanH802 for the loan which is lent to Jehovah. And they wentH1980 to their own home. 21So Jehovah visitedH6485 HannahH2584, and she conceivedH2029, and boreH3205 threeH7969 sonsH1121 and twoH8147 daughtersH1323. And the boy SamuelH8050 grewH1431 before Jehovah. 22And EliH5941 was veryH3966 old, and heardH8085 all that his sonsH1121 were doing to all IsraelH3478, and that they layH7901 with the womenH802 that servedH6633 at the entranceH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150. 23And he saidH559 to them, WhyH4100 do ye such thingsH1697? for I hearH8085 of your evilH7451 deeds from all this peopleH5971. 24No, my sonsH1121, for it is no goodH2896 reportH8052 that I hearH8085: ye makeH8085 Jehovah's peopleH5971 transgressH5674. 25If oneH376 manH376 sinH2398 against another, 3GodH430 will judge him; but if a manH376 sinH2398 against Jehovah, who shall intreat for him? But they hearkened not to the voiceH6963 of their fatherH1, for Jehovah was minded to slay them. 26And the boy SamuelH8050 grew on, and was in favour both with Jehovah and alsoH1571 with menH376. 27And there cameH935 a manH376 of 4GodH430 to EliH5941 and saidH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Did I plainly revealH1540 myself to the houseH1004 of thy fatherH1 when they wereH1961 in EgyptH4714, in Pharaoh's houseH1004, 28and chooseH977 him out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, to be my priestH3548, to offer upon mine altarH4196, to burn incenseH7004, to wear the ephodH646 before me? and I gaveH5414 unto the houseH1004 of thy fatherH1 all the offeringsH801 by fireH801 of the children of IsraelH3478. 29Wherefore do ye trample upon my sacrificeH2077 and upon mine oblation which I have commandedH6680 [in my] habitationH4583? And thou honourest thy sonsH1121 above me, to makeH3513 yourselves fat with the primest of all the oblations of IsraelH3478 my peopleH5971. 30Wherefore Jehovah the 5GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saith, I saidH559 indeed, Thy houseH1004 and the houseH1004 of thy fatherH1 should walkH1980 before me for everH5769. But nowH6258 Jehovah saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despiseH959 me shall be lightly esteemed. 31Behold, daysH3117 comeH935, that I will cutH1438 off thine armH2220, and the armH2220 of thy father's houseH1004, that there shall not beH1961 an oldH2205 manH2205 in thy houseH1004. 32And thou shalt see an oppressor [in my] habitationH4583, amidst all the goodH3190 that shall beH1961 done to IsraelH3478; and there shall not beH1961 an oldH2205 manH2205 in thy houseH1004 for ever. 33And the manH376 of thine [whom] I shall not cutH3772 off from mine altarH4196, shall be to cause thine eyesH5869 to failH3615 and to grieve thy soulH5315; and all the increase of thy houseH1004 shall dieH4191 in their vigour. 34And this shall be the signH226 to thee, which shall comeH935 upon thy twoH8147 sonsH1121, upon HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372: in oneH259 dayH3117 they shall dieH4191, both of them. 35And I will raiseH6965 up for myself a faithfulH539 priestH3548, [who] shall do according to what is in my heartH3824 and in my mind; and I will buildH1129 him a sure houseH1004; and he shall walkH1980 before mine anointedH4899 continually. 36And it shall comeH935 to pass [that] every oneH259 that is leftH3498 of thy houseH1004 shall comeH935 to crouch to him for a small pieceH6595 of silverH3701 and for a cake of breadH3899, and shall sayH559, Put me, I pray thee, into oneH259 of the priestly offices, that I may eatH398 a morselH6595 of breadH3899.
