Darby Bible

1And SamuelH8050 diedH4191; and all IsraelH3478 were gatheredH6908 togetherH6908, and lamentedH5594 him; and they buriedH6912 him in his houseH1004 at RamahH7414. And DavidH1732 aroseH6965 and wentH3381 downH3381 to the wildernessH4057 of ParanH6290. 2And there wasH1961 a manH376 at MaonH4584, whose business wasH1961 at CarmelH3760; and the manH376 wasH1961 veryH3966 greatH1419, and he had threeH7969 thousandH505 sheepH6629 and a thousandH505 goatsH5795; and he wasH1961 shearingH1494 his sheepH6629 at CarmelH3760. 3And the nameH8034 of the manH376 was NabalH5037, and the nameH8034 of his wifeH802 AbigailH26; and the womanH802 was of goodH2896 understanding, and of a beautifulH3303 countenance; but the manH376 was churlish and evilH7451 in his doings; and he was a Calebite. 4And DavidH1732 heardH8085 in the wildernessH4057 that NabalH5037 was shearingH1494 his sheepH6629. 5Then DavidH1732 sentH7971 out tenH6235 youngH5288 menH5288; and DavidH1732 saidH559 to the youngH5288 menH5288, GoH935 up to CarmelH3760, and goH935 to NabalH5037, and greet him in my nameH8034. 6And thusH3541 shall ye sayH559: Long lifeH2416 [to thee]! and peaceH7965 be to thee, and peaceH7965 be to thy houseH1004, and peaceH7965 be to all that thou hast! 7And nowH6258 I have heardH8085 that thou hast shearersH1494; nowH6258 thy shepherdsH7462 who were with us, we hurt them not, neither wasH1961 there aught missedH6485 by them, all the while they were in CarmelH3760. 8AskH7592 thy youngH5288 menH5288, and they will tellH5046 thee. Therefore let the youngH5288 menH5288 findH4672 favour in thine eyesH5869; for we comeH935 in a goodH2896 dayH3117: giveH5414, I pray thee, what thy handH3027 may findH4672 to thy servantsH5650, and to thy sonH1121 DavidH1732. 9And David's youngH5288 menH5288 cameH935, and spokeH1696 to NabalH5037 according to all those wordsH1697 in the nameH8034 of DavidH1732, and ceased. 10And NabalH5037 answered David's servantsH5650 and saidH559, Who is DavidH1732? and who is the sonH1121 of JesseH3448? there are manyH7235 servantsH5650 now-a-days that breakH6555 away every manH376 from his masterH113. 11And shall I takeH3947 my breadH3899, and my waterH4325, and my flesh which I have killed for my shearersH1494, and giveH5414 [it] to menH376 whom I knowH3045 not whence they are? 12And David's youngH5288 menH5288 turnedH2015 their wayH1870, and wentH935 backH7725, and cameH935 and reported to him according to all those wordsH1697. 13And DavidH1732 saidH559 to his menH376, GirdH2296 ye on every manH376 his swordH2719. And they girdedH2296 on every manH376 his swordH2719; and DavidH1732 alsoH1571 girdedH2296 on his swordH2719; and there wentH5927 up after DavidH1732 about fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376; and two hundredH3967 abode by the baggage. 14And oneH259 of [Nabal's] youngH5288 menH5288 toldH5046 AbigailH26, Nabal's wifeH802, sayingH559, Behold, DavidH1732 sentH7971 messengersH4397 out of the wildernessH4057 to blessH1288 our masterH113; and he has insulted them. 15And the menH376 wereH1961 veryH3966 goodH2896 to us, and we wereH1961 not hurt, neither missedH6485 we anything, as long as we companied with them, when we wereH1961 in the fieldsH7704. 16They wereH1961 a wallH2346 to us both by nightH3915 and dayH3117, all the while we wereH1961 with them feeding the sheepH6629. 17And nowH6258 knowH3045 and considerH7200 what thou wilt do, for evilH7451 is determined against our masterH113, and against all his householdH1004; and he is such a sonH1121 of Belial, that one cannot speakH1696 to him. 18And AbigailH26 madeH6213 hasteH4116, and tookH3947 twoH8147 hundredH3967 loaves, and twoH8147 skin-bottles of wineH3196, and fiveH2568 sheepH6629 ready dressed, and fiveH2568 measures of parched [corn], and a hundredH3967 raisin-cakes, and twoH8147 hundredH3967 fig-cakes, and laid them on asses. 19And she saidH559 to her youngH5288 menH376, GoH935 on before me; behold, I comeH935 after you. But she did not tellH5046 her husbandH376 NabalH5037. 20And as she wasH1961 ridingH7392 on the ass, and comingH3381 downH3381 by the covert of the hillH2022, behold, DavidH1732 and his menH376 came downH3381 opposite to her; and she metH6298 them. 21Now DavidH1732 had saidH559, SurelyH389, in vain have I keptH8104 all that this [man] had in the wildernessH4057, so that nothing was missedH6485 of all that was his; and he has requited me evilH7451 for goodH2896. 22So and more also do 1GodH430 to the enemiesH341 of DavidH1732, if I leaveH7604 of all that is his by the morningH1242 light any male. 23And when AbigailH26 sawH7200 DavidH1732, she hasted and lighted off the ass, and fellH5307 before DavidH1732 on her faceH6440, and bowedH7812 herself to the groundH776, 24and fellH5307 at his feetH7272, and saidH559, Upon me, my lordH113, [upon] me let the iniquityH5771 be; but let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speakH1696 in thine earsH241, and hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of thy handmaid. 25Let not my lordH113, I pray thee, regard this manH376 of Belial, NabalH5037; for as his nameH8034 is, soH3651 is he: NabalH5037 is his nameH8034, and follyH5039 is with him; and I thy handmaid did not seeH7200 the youngH5288 menH376 of my lordH113, whom thou didst sendH7971. 26And nowH6258, my lord, [as] Jehovah liveth, and [as] thy soulH5315 liveth, seeing Jehovah has restrainedH4513 thee from comingH935 with bloodshed, and from avenging thyself with thine own handH3027, nowH6258 let thine enemiesH341, and they that seekH1245 evilH7451 to my lord, beH1961 as NabalH5037. 27And nowH6258 this blessingH1293 which thy bondmaid has broughtH935 to my lordH113, let it be givenH5414 to the youngH5288 menH5288 that follow my lordH113. 28I pray thee, forgiveH5375 the transgressionH6588 of thy handmaid: for Jehovah will certainly makeH6213 my lord a lastingH539 houseH1004; because my lord fightsH3898 the battlesH4421 of Jehovah, and evilH7451 has not been foundH4672 in thee all thy daysH3117. 29And if a manH120 is risenH6965 up to pursueH7291 thee and to seekH1245 thy lifeH5315, the soulH5315 of my lord shall beH1961 bound in the bundle of the living with Jehovah thy 2GodH430; and the soulsH5315 of thine enemiesH341, them shall he sling out from the hollow of the sling. 30And it shall come to pass, when Jehovah shall do to my lord according to all the goodH2896 that he has spokenH1696 concerning thee, and shall appointH6680 thee rulerH5057 over IsraelH3478, 31that this shall beH1961 no stumbling-block to thee, nor offence of heartH3820 for my lord, either that thou hast shedH8210 bloodH1818 without causeH2600, or that my lord has avenged himself. And when Jehovah shall deal wellH3190 with my lord, then rememberH2142 thy handmaid. 32And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbigailH26, BlessedH1288 be Jehovah, the 3GodH430 of IsraelH3478, who sentH7971 thee this dayH3117 to meetH7122 me. 33And blessedH1288 be thy discernmentH2940, and blessedH1288 be thou, who hast kept me this dayH3117 from comingH935 with bloodshed, and from avenging myself with mine own handH3027. 34But indeed, as Jehovah the 4GodH430 of IsraelH3478 liveth, who has restrainedH4513 me from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and comeH935 to meetH7122 me, there had not been leftH3498 to NabalH5037 by the morningH1242 lightH216 any male. 35So DavidH1732 receivedH3947 of her handH3027 what she had broughtH935 him, and saidH559 to her, GoH935 up in peaceH7965 to thy houseH1004; seeH7200, I have hearkened to thy voiceH6963, and have acceptedH3947 thy person. 36And AbigailH26 cameH935 to NabalH5037; and behold, he held a feastH4960 in his houseH1004, like the feastH4960 of a kingH4428; and Nabal's heartH3820 was merry within him, for he was drunkenH7910 to excess; so she toldH5046 him nothing, less or more, until the morningH1242 lightH216. 37And it came to pass in the morningH1242, when the wineH3196 wasH1961 goneH3318 out of NabalH5037, that his wifeH802 toldH5046 him these thingsH1697; and his heartH3820 diedH4191 within him, and he becameH1961 [as] a stoneH68. 38And it came to pass in about tenH6235 daysH3117 that Jehovah smote NabalH5037, and he diedH4191. 39And when DavidH1732 heardH8085 that NabalH5037 was deadH4191, he saidH559, BlessedH1288 be Jehovah, who has pleaded the causeH7379 of my reproachH2781 from the handH3027 of NabalH5037, and has keptH2820 backH7725 his servantH5650 from evilH7451; but Jehovah has returnedH7725 Nabal's evilH7451 upon his own headH7218. And DavidH1732 sentH7971 and communed with AbigailH26, to takeH3947 her as his wifeH802. 40And the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 cameH935 to AbigailH26 to CarmelH3760, and spokeH1696 to her, sayingH559, DavidH1732 has sentH7971 us to thee, to takeH3947 thee as his wifeH802. 41And she aroseH6965 and bowedH7812 herself on her faceH639 to the earthH776, and saidH559, Behold, let thy handmaid be a bondwoman to washH7364 the feetH7272 of the servantsH5650 of my lordH113. 42And AbigailH26 hasted, and aroseH6965, and rodeH7392 upon an ass, with fiveH2568 damsels of hers that followed her; and she wentH1980 after the messengersH4397 of DavidH1732, and becameH1961 his wifeH802. 43DavidH1732 had alsoH1571 takenH3947 AhinoamH293 of Jizreel; and they becameH1961, even both of them, his wivesH802. 44But SaulH7586 had givenH5414 MichalH4324 his daughterH1323, David's wifeH802, to Phalti the sonH1121 of Laish, who was of GallimH1554.
