David Protected from Saul

1Now SaulH7586 toldH1696 his sonH1121 JonathanH3083 and allH3605 his servantsH5650 1to putH4191 DavidH1732 toH4191 deathH4191. But 2JonathanH3083, Saul’sH7586 sonH1121, greatlyH3966 delightedH2654 in DavidH1732. 2So JonathanH3083 informedH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH559, “My fatherH1 SaulH7586 is seekingH1245 to putH4191 you toH4191 deathH4191. NowH6258 then, pleaseH4994 be on your guardH8104 in the morningH1242, and stayH3427 in a hidingH5643 placeH5643 and concealH2244 yourself. 3And as for me, I will goH3318 outH3318 and standH5975 besideH3027 my fatherH1 in the fieldH7704 whereH834H8033 you are hiding, and I will speakH1696 with my fatherH1 about you; and 3whateverH4100 I 4findH7200 out, I will tellH5046 you.” 4Then JonathanH3083 5spokeH1696 wellH2896 of DavidH1732 to his fatherH1 SaulH7586 and saidH559 to him, “6May the kingH4428 not sinH2398 against his servantH5650 DavidH1732, sinceH3588 he has not sinnedH2398 against you, and sinceH3588 his deedsH4639 have been veryH3966 7beneficialH2896 to you. 5For 8he tookH7760 his lifeH5315 in his handH3709 and struckH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and 9the LordH3068 broughtH6213 aboutH6213 a greatH1419 10victoryH8668 for allH3605 IsraelH3478; you sawH7200 it and rejoicedH8055. 11WhyH4100 then would you sinH2398 against innocentH5355 bloodH1818 by puttingH4191 DavidH1732 toH4191 deathH4191 12forH2600 noH2600 reasonH2600?” 6SaulH7586 listenedH8085 to the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083, and SaulH7586 vowedH7650, “As the LordH3068 livesH2416, David shall not be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191.” 7Then JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 toldH5046 him allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697. And JonathanH3083 broughtH935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he was in his presenceH6440 as 13beforeH8032H865.

8When there was warH4421 againH3254, DavidH1732 wentH3318 outH3318 and foughtH3898 the PhilistinesH6430 and 14defeatedH5221 them with greatH1419 slaughterH4347, so that they fledH5127 from him. 9Now there was 15an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LordH3068 on SaulH7586 as he was sittingH3427 in his houseH1004 16with his spearH2595 in his handH3027, 17and DavidH1732 was playingH5059 the harp with his handH3027. 1018And SaulH7586 triedH1245 to 19pinH5221 DavidH1732 to the wallH7023 with the spearH2595, but he escapedH6362 from Saul’sH7586 presenceH6440, so that he stuckH5221 the spearH2595 into the wallH7023. And DavidH1732 fledH5127 and escapedH4422 that nightH3915.

11Then 20SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to David’sH1732 houseH1004 to watchH8104 him, in order to putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191 in the morningH1242. But MichalH4324, David’sH1732 wifeH802, informedH5046 him, sayingH559, “IfH518 you do not saveH4422 your lifeH5315 tonightH3915, tomorrowH4279 you will be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191!” 1221So MichalH4324 letH3381 DavidH1732 downH3381 throughH1157 a windowH2474, and he wentH1980 and fledH1272, and escapedH4422. 13And MichalH4324 tookH3947 22the 23householdH8655 idolH8655 and laidH7760 it on the bedH4296, and putH7760 a quiltH3523 of goats’H5795 hairH5795 atH4763 its headH4763, and coveredH3680 it with clothingH899. 14When SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, she saidH559, “24He isH2470 sickH2470.” 15Then SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH559, “BringH5927 him upH5927 to me on 25his bedH4296, so that I may putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191.” 16When the messengersH4397 enteredH935, beholdH2009, the 26householdH8655 idolH8655 was on the bedH4296 with the quiltH3523 of goats’H5795 hairH5795 atH4763 its headH4763. 17So SaulH7586 saidH559 to MichalH4324, “WhyH4100 have you betrayedH7411 me likeH3602 thisH3602 and letH7971 my enemyH340 goH7971, so that he has escapedH4422?” And MichalH4324 saidH559 to SaulH7586, “He saidH559 to me, ‘LetH7971 me goH7971! 27WhyH4100 should I putH4191 you toH4191 deathH4191?’”

18So DavidH1732 fledH1272 and escapedH4422, and cameH935 28to SamuelH8050 at RamahH7414; and he informedH5046 him of everythingH3605 that SaulH7586 had doneH6213 to him. And he and SamuelH8050 wentH1980 and stayedH3427 in 29NaiothH5121. 19But it was reportedH5046 to SaulH7586, sayingH559, “BeholdH2009, DavidH1732 is at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414.” 20Then 30SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, but when they sawH7200 31the companyH3862 of prophetsH5030 prophesyingH5012, with SamuelH8050 standingH5975 and presidingH5324 overH5921 them, the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH1961 upon the messengersH4397 of SaulH7586; and 32they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. 21When SaulH7586 was informedH5046 of this, he sentH7971 otherH312 messengersH4397, but they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. So SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH3254 the thirdH7992 timeH7992, yet they prophesiedH5012. 22Then he wentH1980 to RamahH7414 himselfH1931 and cameH935 as farH5704 as the largeH1419 wellH953 that is in SecuH7906; and he 33askedH7592, “WhereH375 are SamuelH8050 and DavidH1732?” And someone saidH559, “BeholdH2009, they are at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414.” 23So he 34proceededH1980 thereH8033 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414; but 35the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH1961 upon him alsoH1571, so that he wentH1980 along prophesyingH5012 continuallyH1980 untilH5704 he cameH935 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 24He alsoH1571 strippedH6584 offH6584 his clothesH899, and he tooH1571 prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050 and 36layH5307 downH5307 3738nakedH6174 allH3605 that dayH3117 and allH3605 nightH3915. ThereforeH5921H3651 they sayH559, “39Is SaulH7586 alsoH1571 among the prophetsH5030?”
