Darby Bible

1And DavidH1732 fledH1272 from NaiothH5121 by RamahH7414, and cameH935 and saidH559 before JonathanH3083, What have I done? what is mine iniquityH5771, and what is my sinH2403 before thy fatherH1, that he seeksH1245 my lifeH5315? 2And he saidH559 to him, 1God forbid; thou shalt not dieH4191: behold, my fatherH1 will do nothing either greatH1419 or smallH6996, and not apprise me; and whyH4069 should my fatherH1 hideH5641 this thingH1697 from me? it is not so. 3And DavidH1732 sworeH7650 againH5750 and againH5750, and saidH559, Thy fatherH1 certainly knowsH3045 that I have foundH4672 favour in thy sight: and he has thought, JonathanH3083 shall not knowH3045 this, lestH6435 he be grieved; but truly [as] Jehovah liveth, and [as] thy soulH5315 liveth, there is but a step between me and deathH4194. 4And JonathanH3083 saidH559 to DavidH1732, What thy soulH5315 may sayH559, I will even do it for thee. 5And DavidH1732 saidH559 to JonathanH3083, Behold, to-morrow is newH2320 moonH2320, and I should not fail to sitH3427 with the kingH4428 at meat; but let me goH7971, that I may hideH5641 myself in the fieldH7704 until the thirdH7992 eveningH6153. 6If thy fatherH1 should actually missH6485 me, then sayH559, DavidH1732 earnestly askedH7592 leave of me that he might runH7323 to Bethlehem his cityH5892; for there is a yearly sacrificeH2077 there for all the familyH4940. 7If he sayH559 thusH3541, It is well, — thy servantH5650 shall have peaceH7965; but if he be very wroth, be sure that evilH7451 is determined by him. 8Deal kindly then with thy servantH5650; for thou hast broughtH935 thy servantH5650 into a covenantH1285 of Jehovah with thee; but if there be in me iniquityH5771, slay me thyself; for whyH4100 shouldest thou bringH935 me to thy fatherH1? 9And JonathanH3083 saidH559, FarH2486 be it from thee; for, if I knewH3045 with certainty that evilH7451 were determined by my fatherH1 to comeH935 upon thee, would I not tellH5046 it thee? 10Then saidH559 DavidH1732 to JonathanH3083, Who shall tellH5046 me? or what if thy fatherH1 answerH6030 thee roughly? 11And JonathanH3083 saidH559 to DavidH1732, ComeH3318 and let us goH3318 out into the fieldH7704. And they wentH3318 out both of them into the fieldH7704. 12And JonathanH3083 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Jehovah, 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478, when I sound my fatherH1 about this timeH6256 to-morrow, [or] the next day, and behold, there be goodH2896 toward DavidH1732, and I thenH227 sendH7971 not to thee, and apprise thee of it, 13Jehovah do so and much more to JonathanH3083. Should it please my fatherH1 [to do] thee evilH7451, then I will apprise thee of it, and sendH7971 thee awayH7971, that thou mayest goH1980 in peaceH7965; and Jehovah beH1961 with thee, as he has beenH1961 with my fatherH1. 14And thou shalt not only while yetH5750 I live shew me the kindness of Jehovah, that I dieH4191 not, 15but thou shalt not cutH3772 off thy kindness from my houseH1004 for everH5769, no, not when Jehovah cutsH3772 off the enemiesH341 of DavidH1732, every oneH376 from the faceH6440 of the earthH127. 16And JonathanH3083 madeH3772 [a covenant] with the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, [saying,] Let Jehovah even requireH1245 [it] at the handH3027 of David's enemiesH341! 17And JonathanH3083 caused DavidH1732 to swearH7650 again, by the loveH157 he had for him, for he lovedH157 him as he lovedH157 his ownH5315 soulH5315. 18And JonathanH3083 saidH559 to him, To-morrow is the newH2320 moonH2320; and thou wilt be missedH6485, for thy seatH4186 will be empty; 19but on the thirdH8027 dayH3117 thou shalt goH935 down quickly, and comeH935 to the placeH4725 whereH834 thou didst hideH5641 thyself on the dayH3117 of the business, and abide by the stoneH68 Ezel. 20And I will shootH3384 threeH7969 arrowsH2678 on the sideH6654 of it, as though I shotH3384 at a mark. 21And behold, I will sendH7971 the ladH5288, [sayingH559,] GoH935, findH4672 the arrowsH2678. If I expressly sayH559 to the ladH5288, Behold, the arrowsH2678 are on this side of thee, takeH3947 them; then comeH935, for there is peaceH7965 for thee, and it is nothingH369; [as] Jehovah liveth. 22But if I sayH559 thusH3541 to the youth: Behold, the arrowsH2678 are beyond thee, — goH7971 thy way; for Jehovah sendsH7971 thee awayH7971. 23And as to the matterH1697 which thou and I have spokenH1696 of, behold, Jehovah is between me and thee for everH5769. 24And DavidH1732 hidH5641 himself in the fieldH7704; and it wasH1961 the newH2320 moonH2320, and the kingH4428 satH3427 at table to eatH398. 25And the kingH4428 satH3427 on his seatH4186, as at other timesH6471, on the seatH4186 by the wallH7023; and JonathanH3083 aroseH6965, and AbnerH74 satH3427 by Saul's sideH6654, and David's placeH4725 was empty. 26And SaulH7586 saidH559 nothing that dayH3117; for he thought, Something has befallen [him], that he is not cleanH2889: surely he is not cleanH2889. 27And it cameH935 to pass the nextH4283 dayH3117 after the newH2320 moonH2320, the secondH8145 [dayH3117 of the monthH2320], as David's placeH4725 wasH1961 empty, that SaulH7586 saidH559 to JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, WhyH4069 has not the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 comeH935 to table, neither yesterdayH8543 nor to-day? 28And JonathanH3083 answeredH6030 SaulH7586, DavidH1732 earnestly askedH7592 leave of me [to go] to Bethlehem, 29and saidH559, Let me goH935, I pray thee; for we have a familyH4940 sacrificeH2077 in the cityH5892; and my brotherH251 himself has commandedH6680 me [to be there]; and nowH6258, if I have foundH4672 favour in thy sight, let me goH935 awayH7971, I pray thee, and seeH7200 my brethren. He has thereforeH3651 not comeH935 to the king's tableH7979. 30And Saul's angerH639 was kindled against JonathanH3083, and he saidH559 to him, SonH1121 of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I knowH3045 that thou hast chosenH977 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 to thine own shameH1322 and to the shameH1322 of thy mother's nakednessH6172? 31For as long as the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 lives upon earthH127, thou shalt not be establishedH3559, nor thy kingdomH4438. And nowH6258 sendH7971 and fetch him to me, for he must die. 32And JonathanH3083 answered SaulH7586 his fatherH1, and saidH559 to him, WhyH4100 should he be putH4191 to deathH4191? what has he done? 33Then SaulH7586 cast the spearH2595 at him to smite him; and JonathanH3083 knewH3045 that it was determined by his fatherH1 to putH4191 DavidH1732 to deathH4191. 34And JonathanH3083 aroseH6965 from the tableH7979 in fierce angerH639, and ateH398 no meat the secondH8145 dayH3117 of the newH2320 moonH2320; for he was grieved for DavidH1732, because his fatherH1 had done him shameH3637. 35And it came to pass in the morningH1242 that JonathanH3083 wentH3318 out into the fieldH7704, to the place agreed on with DavidH1732, and a littleH6996 ladH5288 with him. 36And he saidH559 to his ladH5288, RunH7323, findH4672 now the arrowsH2678 which I shootH3384. The ladH5288 ranH7323, and he shotH3384 the arrowH2678 beyond him. 37And whenH834 the ladH5288 cameH935 to the placeH4725 of the arrowH2678 which JonathanH3083 had shotH3384, JonathanH3083 cried after the ladH5288 and saidH559, Is not the arrowH2678 away beyond thee? 38And JonathanH3083 cried after the ladH5288, Make speed, haste, stay not! And Jonathan's ladH5288 gatheredH3950 up the arrowsH2678, and cameH935 to his masterH113. 39And the ladH5288 knewH3045 nothing: onlyH389 JonathanH3083 and DavidH1732 knewH3045 the matterH1697. 40And JonathanH3083 gaveH5414 his weaponsH3627 to his ladH5288, and saidH559 to him, GoH935, carry them to the cityH5892. 41The ladH5288 wentH935, and DavidH1732 aroseH6965 from the side of the southH5045, and fellH5307 on his faceH639 to the groundH776, and bowedH7812 himself threeH7969 timesH6471; and they kissedH5401 oneH376 another, and weptH1058 oneH376 with another, until DavidH1732 exceeded. 42And JonathanH3083 saidH559 to DavidH1732, GoH1980 in peaceH7965, forasmuch as we have both of us swornH7650 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah, sayingH559, Jehovah beH1961 between me and thee, and between my seedH2233 and thy seedH2233 for everH5769! And he arose and departed; and JonathanH3083 wentH1980 into the city.
