David Protected from Saul

1Now SaulH7586 toldH1696 JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 and allH3605 his servantsH5650 1to putH4191 DavidH1732 to deathH4191. But 2JonathanH3083, Saul’sH7586 sonH1121, greatlyH3966 delightedH2654 in DavidH1732. 2So JonathanH3083 toldH5046 DavidH1732 sayingH559, “SaulH7586 my fatherH1 is seekingH1245 to putH4191 you to deathH4191. NowH6258 therefore, pleaseH4994 be on guardH8104 in the morningH1242, and stayH3427 in a secretH5643 placeH5643 and hideH2244 yourself. 3I will goH3318 out and standH5975 besideH3027 my fatherH1 in the fieldH7704 whereH834H8033 you are, and I will speakH1696 with my fatherH1 about you; 3if I 4findH7200 out anythingH4100, then I will tellH5046 you.” 4Then JonathanH3083 5spokeH1696 wellH2896 of DavidH1732 to SaulH7586 his fatherH1 and saidH559 to him, “6Do not let the kingH4428 sinH2398 against his servantH5650 DavidH1732, sinceH3588 he has not sinnedH2398 against you, and sinceH3588 his deedsH4639 have been veryH3966 7beneficialH2896 to you. 5For 8he tookH7760 his lifeH5315 in his handH3709 and struckH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and 9the LordH3068 broughtH6213 aboutH6213 a greatH1419 deliveranceH8668 for allH3605 IsraelH3478; you sawH7200 it and rejoicedH8055. 10WhyH4100 then will you sinH2398 against innocentH5355 bloodH1818 by puttingH4191 DavidH1732 to deathH4191 withoutH2600 a causeH2600?” 6SaulH7586 listenedH8085 to the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083, and SaulH7586 vowedH7650, “As the LordH3068 livesH2416, he shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191.” 7Then JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 toldH5046 him allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697. And JonathanH3083 broughtH935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he was in his presenceH6440 as 11formerlyH8032H865.

8When there was warH4421 againH3254, DavidH1732 wentH3318 out and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430 and 12defeatedH5221 them with greatH1419 slaughterH4347, so that they fledH5127 beforeH4480H6440 him. 9Now there was 13an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LordH3068 on SaulH7586 as he was sittingH3427 in his houseH1004 14with his spearH2595 in his handH3027, 15and DavidH1732 was playingH5059 the harp with his handH3027. 1016SaulH7586 triedH1245 to 17pinH5221 DavidH1732 to the wallH7023 with the spearH2595, but he slippedH6362 awayH6362 out of Saul’sH7586 presenceH6440, so that he 18stuckH5221 the spearH2595 into the wallH7023. And DavidH1732 fledH5127 and escapedH4422 that nightH3915.

11Then 19SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to David’sH1732 houseH1004 to watchH8104 him, in order to putH4191 him to deathH4191 in the morningH1242. But MichalH4324, David’sH1732 wifeH802, toldH5046 him, sayingH559, “IfH518 you do not saveH4422 your lifeH5315 tonightH3915, tomorrowH4279 you will be putH4191 to deathH4191.” 1220So MichalH4324 letH3381 DavidH1732 downH3381 throughH1157 a windowH2474, and he wentH1980 out and fledH1272 and escapedH4422. 13MichalH4324 tookH3947 21the 22householdH8655 idolH8655 and laidH7760 it on the bedH4296, and putH7760 a quiltH3523 of goats’H5795 hair at its headH4763, and coveredH3680 it with clothesH899. 14When SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, she saidH559, “23He is sickH2470.” 15Then SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH559, “BringH5927 him up to me on 24his bedH4296, that I may putH4191 him to deathH4191.” 16When the messengersH4397 enteredH935, beholdH2009, the 25householdH8655 idolH8655 was on the bedH4296 with the quiltH3523 of goats’H5795 hair at its headH4763. 17So SaulH7586 saidH559 to MichalH4324, “WhyH4100 have you deceivedH7411 me likeH3602 thisH3602 and letH7971 my enemyH340 goH7971, so that he has escapedH4422?” And MichalH4324 saidH559 to SaulH7586, “He saidH559 to me, ‘LetH7971 me goH7971! 26WhyH4100 should I putH4191 you to deathH4191?’”

18Now DavidH1732 fledH1272 and escapedH4422 and cameH935 27to SamuelH8050 at RamahH7414, and toldH5046 him allH3605 that SaulH7586 had doneH6213 to him. And he and SamuelH8050 wentH1980 and stayedH3427 in 28NaiothH5121. 19It was toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH559, “BeholdH2009, DavidH1732 is at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414.” 20Then 29SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, but when they sawH7200 30the companyH3862 of the prophetsH5030 prophesyingH5012, with SamuelH8050 standingH5975 and presidingH5324 overH5921 them, the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH1961 upon the messengersH4397 of SaulH7586; and 31they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. 21When it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, he sentH7971 otherH312 messengersH4397, and they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. So SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH3254 the thirdH7992 timeH7992, and they alsoH1571 prophesiedH5012. 22Then he himselfH1931 wentH1980 to RamahH7414 and cameH935 as farH5704 as the largeH1419 wellH953 that is in SecuH7906; and he askedH7592 and saidH559, “WhereH375 are SamuelH8050 and DavidH1732?” And someone saidH559, “BeholdH2009, they are at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414.” 23He 32proceededH1980 thereH8033 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414; and 33the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH1961 upon him alsoH1571, so that he wentH1980 along prophesyingH5012 continuallyH1980 untilH5704 he cameH935 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 24He alsoH1571 strippedH6584 offH6584 his clothesH899, and he tooH1571 prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050 and 34layH5307 downH5307 3536nakedH6174 allH3605 that dayH3117 and allH3605 that nightH3915. ThereforeH5921H3651 they sayH559, “37Is SaulH7586 alsoH1571 among the prophetsH5030?”
