1 Corinthians 11
American Standard Version
1Be ye imitatorsG3402 of me, even as I also am of ChristG5547.
2NowG1161 I praiseG1867 you that ye rememberG3403 me in all thingsG3956, and holdG2722 fastG2722 the traditionsG3862, evenG2532 as I deliveredG3860 them to you. 3But I would have you know, that the headG2776 of every manG435 isG1510 ChristG5547; and the headG2776 of the womanG1135 isG1510 the manG435; and the headG2776 of ChristG5547 isG1510 GodG2316. 4Every manG435 prayingG4336 or prophesyingG4395, having his headG2776 covered, dishonoreth his headG2776. 5But every womanG1135 prayingG4336 or prophesyingG4395 with her headG2776 unveiled dishonoreth her headG2776; for it isG1510 oneG1520 and the sameG846 thingG1520 as if she wereG1510 shaven. 6For if a womanG1135 is not veiled, let her alsoG2532 be shorn: but if it is a shame to a womanG1135 to be shorn or shaven, let her be veiled. 7For a manG435 indeed oughtG3784 not to have his headG2776 veiled, forasmuch as he isG1510 the imageG1504 and gloryG1391 of GodG2316: but the womanG1135 isG1510 the gloryG1391 of the manG435. 8For the manG435 isG1510 not of the womanG1135; but the womanG1135 of the manG435: 9for neither was the manG435 created for the womanG1135; but the womanG1135 for the manG435: 10for this cause oughtG3784 the womanG1135 to have a sign of authorityG1849 on her headG2776, because of the angelsG32. 11NeverthelessG4133, neither is the womanG1135 without the manG435, nor the manG435 without the womanG1135, in the LordG2962. 12For as the womanG1135 is of the manG435, so is the manG435 alsoG2532 by the womanG1135; but all thingsG3956 are of GodG2316. 13JudgeG2919 ye in yourselves: isG1510 it seemly that a womanG1135 prayG4336 unto GodG2316 unveiled? 14Doth not evenG3761 natureG5449 itself teachG1321 you, that, if a manG435 have longG2863 hairG2863, it isG1510 a dishonorG819 to him? 15But if a womanG1135 have longG2863 hairG2863, it isG1510 a gloryG1391 to her: for her hairG2863 isG1510 givenG1325 her for a covering. 16But if any man seemeth to beG1510 contentious, we have no suchG5108 customG4914, neither the churchesG1577 of GodG2316.
17But in giving you this chargeG3853, I praiseG1867 you not, that ye comeG4905 togetherG4905 not for the better but for the worse. 18For firstG4413 of all, when ye comeG4905 togetherG4905 in the churchG1577, I hearG191 that divisionsG4978 existG5225 among you; and I partly believeG4100 it. 19For there must beG1510 alsoG2532 factionsG139 among you, that they that areG1510 approved may beG1510 made manifest among you. 20When thereforeG3767 ye assemble yourselves togetherG4905, it isG1510 not possible to eatG2068 the Lord’s supperG1173: 21for in your eatingG2068 each oneG1538 taketh before other his ownG2398 supperG1173; and oneG1538 is hungryG3983, and another is drunken. 22What, have ye not housesG3614 to eatG2068 and to drinkG4095 in? or despiseG2706 ye the churchG1577 of GodG2316, and put them to shameG2617 that have not? What shall I sayG3004 to you? shall I praiseG1867 you? In this I praiseG1867 you not. 23For I receivedG2983 of the LordG2962 that which alsoG2532 I deliveredG3860 unto you, that the LordG2962 JesusG2424 in the nightG3571 in which he was betrayedG3860 tookG2983 breadG740; 24and when he had givenG2168 thanksG2168, he brake it, and saidG3004, This isG1510 my bodyG4983, which isG1510 for you: this do in remembranceG364 of me. 25In like manner alsoG2532 the cupG4221, after supper, sayingG3004, This cupG4221 isG1510 the newG2537 covenantG1242 in my bloodG129: this do, as oftenG3740 as ye drinkG4095 it, in remembranceG364 of me. 26For as oftenG3740 as ye eatG2068 this breadG740, and drinkG4095 the cupG4221, ye proclaimG2605 the Lord’s deathG2288 till he comeG2064. 27Wherefore whosoever shall eatG2068 the breadG740 or drinkG4095 the cupG4221 of the LordG2962 in an unworthy manner, shall beG1510 guiltyG1777 of the bodyG4983 and the bloodG129 of the LordG2962. 28But let a manG444 prove himself, and so let him eatG2068 of the breadG740, and drinkG4095 of the cupG4221. 29For he that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgmentG2917 unto himself, if he discernG1252 not the bodyG4983. 30For this cause manyG4183 among you are weakG772 and sickly, and not a few sleepG2837. 31But if we discerned ourselves, we should not be judgedG2919. 32But when we are judgedG2919, we are chastened of the LordG2962, that we may not be condemnedG2632 with the worldG2889. 33Wherefore, my brethren, whenG4905 ye comeG4905 togetherG4905 to eatG2068, wait oneG240 for another. 34If any man is hungryG3983, let him eatG2068 at homeG3624; that your comingG2064 togetherG4905 be not unto judgmentG2917. And the restG3062 will I set in orderG2443 whensoever I comeG2064.
