Luke 20:1-16

1On oneμιᾷmiaG1520of the daysἡμερῶνhēmerōnG2250whileHe was teachingδιδάσκοντοςdidaskontosG1321the peopleλαὸνlaonG2992in the templeG2413andpreachingG2097the gospelG2097,the chiefἀρχιερεῖςarchiereisG749priestsG749and the scribesγραμματεῖςgrammateisG1122with the eldersπρεσβυτέροιςpresbuteroisG4245confrontedἐπέστησανepestēsanG2186Him,

2and they declaredG3004,sayingλέγοντεςlegontesG3004to Him, “TellG3004us by whatποίᾳpoiaG4169authorityἐξουσίᾳexousiaG1849You are doingποιεῖςpoieisG4160theseG3778thingsG3778,orἢēG2228whoτίςtisG5101is the one who gaveδούςdousG1325You thisG3778authorityἐξουσίανexousianG1849?”

3But He repliedἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisG611 G3004to them,“I will alsoG2532askἐρωτήσωerōtēsōG2065you aquestionλόγον,logonG3056,and you tellG3004Me:

4Was the baptismβάπτισμαbaptismaG908of JohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491from heavenοὐρανοῦouranouG3772orἢēG2228from menἀνθρώπων;anthrōpōnG444?”

5They discussedσυνελογίσαντοsunelogisantoG4817amongπρὸςprosG4314themselvesἑαυτοὺςhe'autousG1438,sayingλέγοντεςlegontesG3004, “IfἐὰνeanG1437we sayG3004, ‘From heavenοὐρανοῦ,ouranouG3772,’He will sayG3004, ‘Whyδιὰ τίdia tiG1223 G5101did you not believeἐπιστεύσατεepisteusateG4100him?’

6But ifἐὰνeanG1437we sayG3004, ‘From menἀνθρώπων,anthrōpōnG444,’allἅπαςhapasG537the peopleλαὸςlaosG2992will stoneG2642us toG2642deathG2642,sinceγάρgarG1063they are convincedπεπεισμένοςpepeismenosG3982that JohnἸωάννηνIōannēnG2491was aprophetπροφήτηνprophētēnG4396.”

7And sothey answeredἀπεκρίθησανapekrithēsanG611that they did not knowG3609whereπόθεν.pothenG4159it camefromG4159.

8And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to them,“NeitherοὐδὲoudeG3761am I tellingλέγωlegōG3004you by whatποίᾳpoiaG4169authorityἐξουσίᾳexousiaG1849I doποιῶ.¶poiōG4160theseG3778thingsταῦταtautaG3778.”

9But He beganἬρξατοĒrxatoG757to tellλέγεινlegeinG3004the peopleλαὸνlaonG2992thisταύτην·tautēnG3778parableπαραβολὴνparabolēnG3850:“A manἄνθρωπόςanthrōposG444plantedἐφύτευσενephuteusenG5452a vineyardἀμπελῶναampelōnaG290and leasedἐξέδετοexedetoG1554it tovine-growersγεωργοῖςgeōrgoisG1092,and wentG589onG589aG589journeyG589for a longἱκανούς.hikanousG2425timeχρόνουςchronousG5550.

10At the harvesttimeκαιρῷkairōG2540he sentἀπέστειλενapesteilenG649a slaveδοῦλονdoulonG1401to the vine-growersγεωργοὺςgeōrgousG1092,soG2443thatG2443they would giveδώσουσινdōsousinG1325him his shareof the produceκαρποῦkarpouG2590of the vineyardἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosG290;but the vine-growersγεωργοὶgeōrgoiG1092beatδείραντεςdeirantesG1194him and sentG1821him awayἐξαπέστειλανexapesteilanG1821empty-handedκενόν.kenonG2756.

11And he proceededπροσέθετοprosethetoG4369to sendπέμψαιpempsaiG3992anotherἕτερονheteronG2087slaveδοῦλον·doulonG1401;but they beatδείραντεςdeirantesG1194him alsoG2548and treatedG818him shamefullyG818,and sentG1821him awayἐξαπέστειλανexapesteilanG1821empty-handedκενόν.kenonG2756.

12And he proceededπροσέθετοprosethetoG4369to sendπέμψαι·pempsaiG3992a thirdτρίτονtritonG5154;but thisG3778oneG3778tooG2532they woundedτραυματίσαντεςtraumatisantesG5135and threwG1544outG1544.

13NowδὲdeG1161theownerκύριοςkuriosG2962of the vineyardἀμπελῶνος·ampelōnosG290saidG3004, ‘WhatτίtiG5101am I to doποιήσω;poiēsōG4160?I will sendπέμψωpempsōG3992my belovedἀγαπητόν·agapētonG27sonυἱόνhuionG5207;perhapsἴσωςisōsG2481they willrespectἐντραπήσονται.entrapēsontaiG1788him.’

14But when the vine-growersγεωργοὶgeōrgoiG1092sawG3708him, they discussedδιελογίζοντοdielogizontoG1260with oneἀλλήλουςallēlousG240anotherG240,sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, ‘ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is the heirκληρονόμος·klēronomosG2818;let’s killἀποκτείνωμενapokteinōmenG615him soἵναinaG2443thatG2443the inheritanceκληρονομία.klēronomiaG2817will be oursG1473.’

15And sothey threwG1544him outG1544of the vineyardἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosG290and killedἀπέκτειναν.apekteinanG615him. WhatτίtiG5101,thenοὖνounG3767, will theownerκύριοςkuriosG2962of the vineyardἀμπελῶνος;ampelōnosG290doποιήσειpoiēseiG4160to them?

16He will comeἐλεύσεταιeleusetaiG2064andputG622theseτούτουςtoutousG3778vine-growersγεωργοὺςgeōrgousG1092toG622deathG622,and will giveδώσειdōseiG1325the vineyardἀμπελῶναampelōnaG290to othersἄλλοις.alloisG243.”However, whenδὲdeG1161they heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191this,they saidG3004, “May it neverG3361happenG3361!”
