2 Chronicles 34
American Standard Version
1JosiahH2977 was eightH8083 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 thirtyH7970 and oneH259 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 2And he did that which was rightH3225 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, and walked in the waysH1870 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left. 3For in the eighth yearH8141 of his reignH4427, while he was yetH5750 youngH5288, he beganH2490 to seekH1875 after the GodH430 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1; and in the twelfth yearH8141 he beganH2490 to purge JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 from the highH1116 placesH1116, and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images. 4And they brake down the altarsH4196 of the Baalim in his presenceH6440; and the sun-images that were on high above them he hewed downH5422; and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it upon the gravesH6913 of them that had sacrificedH2076 unto them. 5And he burntH8313 the bonesH6106 of the priestsH3548 upon their altarsH4196, and purged JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 6And so did he in the citiesH5892 of ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669 and SimeonH8095, even unto NaphtaliH5321, in their ruins roundH5439 about. 7And he brake down the altarsH4196, and beatH3807 the Asherim and the graven images into powder, and hewed down all the sun-images throughout all the landH776 of IsraelH3478, and returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389.
8Now in the eighteenth yearH8141 of his reignH4427, when he had purged the landH776 and the houseH1004, he sentH7971 ShaphanH8227 the sonH1121 of AzaliahH683, and MaaseiahH4641 the governor of the cityH5892, and JoahH3098 the sonH1121 of Joahaz the recorderH2142, to repairH2388 the houseH1004 of Jehovah his GodH430. 9And they cameH935 to HilkiahH2518 the high priestH3548, and delivered the moneyH3701 that was broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of GodH430, which the LevitesH3881, the keepersH8104 of the threshold, had gatheredH622 of the handH3027 of ManassehH4519 and EphraimH669, and of all the remnantH7611 of IsraelH3478, and of all JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144, and of the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389. 10And they delivered it into the handH3027 of the workmen that had the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and the workmen that wrought in the houseH1004 of Jehovah gaveH5414 it to mend and repairH2388 the houseH1004: 11even to the carpenters and to the buildersH1129 gaveH5414 they it, to buyH7069 hewn stoneH68, and timber for couplings, and to makeH5414 beams for the housesH1004 which the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 had destroyedH7843. 12And the menH376 did the workH4399 faithfully: and the overseers of them were JahathH3189 and ObadiahH5662, the LevitesH3881, of the sonsH1121 of MerariH4847; and ZechariahH2148 and MeshullamH4918, of the sonsH1121 of the KohathitesH6956, to set it forward; and others of the LevitesH3881, all that were skilful with instrumentsH3627 of music. 13Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all that did the workH4399 in every manner of serviceH5656: and of the LevitesH3881 there were scribesH5608, and officersH7860, and porters.
14And when they broughtH935 out the moneyH3701 that was broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of Jehovah, HilkiahH2518 the priestH3548 foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of Jehovahgivenby MosesH4872. 15And HilkiahH2518 answered and saidH559 to ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, I have foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. And HilkiahH2518 delivered the bookH5612 to ShaphanH8227. 16And ShaphanH8227 carried the bookH5612 to the kingH4428, and moreover broughtH935 backH7725 wordH1697 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, All that was committed to thy servantsH5650, they are doing. 17And they have emptied out the moneyH3701 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and have delivered it into the handH3027 of the overseers, and into the handH3027 of the workmen. 18And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 toldH5046 the kingH4428, sayingH559, HilkiahH2518 the priestH3548 hath delivered me a bookH5612. And ShaphanH8227 readH7121 therein before the kingH4428. 19And it came to pass, when the kingH4428 had heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of the lawH8451, that he rent his clothesH899. 20And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 HilkiahH2518, and AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and AbdonH5658 the sonH1121 of MicahH4318, and ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, and AsaiahH6222 the king’sH4428 servantH5650, sayingH559, 21Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for them that are leftH7604 in IsraelH3478 and in JudahH3063, concerning the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 that is foundH4672; for greatH1419 is the wrathH2534 of Jehovah that is pouredH5413 out upon us, because our fathersH1 have not keptH8104 the wordH1697 of Jehovah, to do according unto all that is writtenH3789 in this bookH5612.
22So HilkiahH2518, and they whom the kingH4428had commanded, went to HuldahH2468 the prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of ShallumH7967 the sonH1121 of Tokhath, the sonH1121 of Hasrah, keeperH8104 of the wardrobe (now she dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389 in the secondH4932 quarter); and they spake to her to that effect. 23And she saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Tell ye the manH376 that sentH7971 you unto me, 24ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon this placeH4725, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, even all the cursesH423 that are writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 which they have readH7121 before the kingH4428 of JudahH3063. 25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430, that they might provokeH3707 me to angerH3707 with all the worksH4639 of their handsH3027; therefore is my wrathH2534 pouredH5413 out upon this placeH4725, and it shall not be quenchedH3518. 26But unto the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who sentH7971 you to inquire of Jehovah, thusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: As touching the wordsH1697 which thou hast heardH8085, 27because thy heartH3824 was tender, and thou didst humbleH3665 thyself before GodH430, when thou heardest his wordsH1697 against this placeH4725, and against the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, and hast humbledH3665 thyself before me, and hast rent thy clothesH899, and weptH1058 before me; I alsoH1571 have heardH8085 thee, saith Jehovah. 28Behold, I will gatherH622 thee to thy fathersH1, and thou shalt be gatheredH622 to thy graveH6913 in peaceH7965, neither shall thine eyesH5869 seeH7200 all the evilH7451 that I will bringH935 upon this placeH4725, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof. And they broughtH935 backH7725 wordH1697 to the kingH4428.
29Then the kingH4428 sentH7971 and gatheredH622 together all the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 30And the kingH4428 wentH5927 up to the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and all the menH376 of JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and the priestsH3548, and the LevitesH3881, and all the peopleH5971, both greatH1419 and smallH6996: and he readH7121 in their earsH241 all the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 of the covenantH1285 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 31And the kingH4428 stoodH5975 in his placeH5977, and madeH6213 a covenantH1285 before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687, and his testimoniesH5715, and his statutesH2706, with all his heartH3824, and with all his soulH5315, to perform the wordsH1697 of the covenantH1285 that were writtenH3789 in this bookH5612. 32And he caused all that were foundH4672 in JerusalemH3389 and BenjaminH1144 to standH5975 to it. And the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did according to the covenantH1285 of GodH430, the GodH430 of their fathersH1. 33And JosiahH2977 took awayH5493 all the abominationsH8441 out of all the countries that pertained to the children of IsraelH3478, and made all that were foundH4672 in IsraelH3478 to serveH5647, even to serveH5647 Jehovah their GodH430. All his daysH3117 they departedH5493 not from following Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1.
