1 Samuel 13
1SaulH7586 wasfortyyearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and when he had reignedH4427 twoH8147 yearsH8141 over IsraelH3478, 2SaulH7586 choseH977 him threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 of IsraelH3478, whereof two thousandH505 wereH1961 with SaulH7586 in Michmash and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousandH505 wereH1961 with JonathanH3129 in GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144: and the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 he sentH7971 every manH376 to his tentH168. 3And JonathanH3129 smote the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430 that was in GebaH1387; and the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 of it. And SaulH7586 blew the trumpetH7782 throughout all the landH776, sayingH559, Let the HebrewsH5680 hearH8085. 4And all IsraelH3478 heardH8085 sayH559 that SaulH7586 had smitten the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430, and alsoH1571 that IsraelH3478 was had in abomination with the PhilistinesH6430. And the peopleH5971 were gathered together after SaulH7586 to GilgalH1537.
5And the PhilistinesH6430 assembled themselves together to fightH3898 with IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH505 chariotsH7393, and sixH8337 thousandH505 horsemenH6571, and peopleH5971 as the sandH2344 which is on the sea-shore in multitudeH7230: and they cameH5927 up, and encampedH2583 in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven. 6When the menH376 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 that they were in a strait (for the peopleH5971 were distressed), then the peopleH5971 did hideH2244 themselves in cavesH4631, and in thickets, and in rocksH5553, and in coverts, and in pitsH953. 7Now some of the HebrewsH5680 had gone over the JordanH3383 to the landH776 of GadH1410 and GileadH1568; but as for SaulH7586, he was yetH5750 in GilgalH1537, and all the peopleH5971 followed him tremblingH2729.
8And he tarried sevenH7651 daysH3117, according to the set time that SamuelH8050 had appointedH4150: but SamuelH8050 cameH935 not to GilgalH1537; and the peopleH5971 were scatteredH6327 from him. 9And SaulH7586 saidH559, BringH5927 hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offeredH5927 the burnt-offering. 10And it cameH935 to pass that, as soon as he had made an endH3615 of offeringH5927 the burnt-offering, behold, SamuelH8050 cameH935; and SaulH7586 wentH3318 out to meetH7122 him, that he might salute him. 11And SamuelH8050 saidH559, What hast thou done? And SaulH7586 saidH559, Because I sawH7200 that the peopleH5971 were scatteredH5310 from me, and that thou camest not within the daysH3117 appointedH4150, and that the PhilistinesH6430 assembled themselves together at Michmash; 12thereforeH6258 saidH559 I, NowH6258 will the PhilistinesH6430 comeH5927 down upon me to GilgalH1537, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself thereforeH6258, and offeredH5927 the burnt-offering. 13And SamuelH8050 saidH559 to SaulH7586, Thou hast done foolishlyH5528; thou hast not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 of Jehovah thy GodH430, which he commandedH6680 thee: for nowH6258 would Jehovah have establishedH3559 thy kingdomH4467 upon IsraelH3478 for everH5769. 14But nowH6258 thy kingdomH4467 shall not continue: Jehovah hath soughtH1245 him a manH376 after his own heartH3824, and Jehovah hath appointedH6680 him to be princeH5057 over his peopleH5971, because thou hast not keptH8104 that which Jehovah commandedH6680 thee. 15And SamuelH8050 aroseH6965, and gat him up from GilgalH1537 unto GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144.
And SaulH7586 numbered the peopleH5971 that were present with him, about sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376. 16And SaulH7586, and JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and the peopleH5971 that were present with them, abode in GebaH1387 of BenjaminH1144: but the PhilistinesH6430 encampedH2583 in Michmash. 17And the spoilers cameH3318 out of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 in threeH7969 companiesH7218: oneH259 company turnedH6437 unto the wayH1870 that leadeth to OphrahH6084, unto the landH776 of ShualH7777; 18and another companyH7218 turnedH6437 the wayH1870 to Beth-horonH1032; and another companyH7218 turnedH6437 the wayH1870 of the borderH1366 that looketh downH8259 upon the valleyH1516 of ZeboimH6650 toward the wildernessH4057.
19Now there was no smith foundH4672 throughout all the landH776 of IsraelH3478; for the PhilistinesH6430 saidH559, LestH6435 the HebrewsH5680 makeH6213 them swordsH2719 or spearsH2595: 20but all the Israelites wentH3381 downH3381 to the PhilistinesH6430, to sharpenH3913 every manH376 his share, and his coulter, and his axeH7134, and his mattock; 21yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to setH5324 the goads. 22So it came to pass in the dayH3117 of battleH4421, that there wasH1961 neither swordH2719 nor spearH2595 foundH4672 in the handH3027 of any of the peopleH5971 that were with SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129: but with SaulH7586 and with JonathanH3129 his sonH1121 wasH1961 there foundH4672. 23And the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH3318 out unto the pass of Michmash.
